Chapter 5 - The Fire of Rebellion

The Fire of Rebellion

The storage hall was filled with smoke. The five guards stood frozen for a moment, their eyebrows singed by the sudden blast of heat. They couldn't believe their eyes. Dayal Karmakar, the boy who couldn't even lift a heavy sword yesterday, was now standing before them with eyes like burning coals.

"You... you stole the Fire Spirit Fruit!" the lead guard roared, his face twisted in greed and anger. "That was meant for the Sect Leader's son! Do you have any idea what you have done? Even if you have ten lives, it won't be enough to pay for this!"

Dayal felt the Fire Spirit Fruit's energy settling in his dantian. It was like a small sun was shining inside him. The mechanical voice of the System echoed again.

[Ding! Host is surrounded. Detecting five Level 4 guards.]

[New Combat Quest: Defeat the guards and escape.]

[Reward: 400 XP and 'Shadow Step' movement technique.]

Dayal felt a surge of confidence. "I am tired of paying for things I didn't do," he said, his voice calm but heavy. "Today, you will be the ones to pay."

The lead guard lost his patience. "Kill him! Bring his head to the Elders!"

Three guards rushed forward at once, their swords gleaming in the dim light of the hall. Dayal didn't panic. His senses were sharper than ever. As the first sword swung toward his neck, he saw it in slow motion. He tilted his head slightly, and the blade hissed past his ear.

With his new 'Iron Grip' skill, Dayal grabbed the guard's wrist.

CRACK!

The guard screamed as his bone snapped like a dry twig. Dayal didn't stop there. He used his other hand to punch the guard in the chest.

[Ding! Devouring energy from the strike...]

The guard felt his strength vanish instantly as Dayal's punch landed. He flew backward, crashing into a shelf of glass bottles.

"Monster!" another guard shouted, trying to stab Dayal from behind.

Dayal spun around. He remembered the heat in his throat. He took a deep breath and released a concentrated stream of fire. The flames hit the guard's wooden shield, turning it into ashes in seconds. The guard fell back, his clothes on fire, screaming in pain.

The remaining three guards, including the leader, hesitated. They looked at each other with fear. This wasn't a fight; it was a slaughter.

"Why are you waiting?" the leader hissed, though his own hands were shaking. "He is just one person! Use the 'Iron Net Formation'!"

The guards tried to circle him, but Dayal was faster. The Level 5 energy in his legs made him move like a blur. He dashed toward the leader.

"You were the one who broke my wooden sword last month," Dayal whispered as he appeared right in front of the leader's face.

The leader tried to raise his sword, but Dayal's hand was already on his throat.

[Ding! Devouring Level 4 Qi...]

[Progress: 50%... 100%!]

Dayal felt a rush of power. The leader's eyes rolled back as his energy was drained into Dayal's body. The other guards, seeing their leader collapse like a ragdoll, turned and ran out of the hall, shouting for help.

[Quest Completed!]

[Gained 400 XP!]

[Level Up! You are now Level 6!]

[You have learned 'Shadow Step'!]

Dayal knew he couldn't stay. The alarm bells were getting louder. Hundreds of disciples would be here soon. He looked at the window he came through. With a thought, he activated 'Shadow Step'. His body became semi-transparent, and he moved like a ghost across the room.

He jumped out of the window and landed silently on the grass. He didn't head back to his hut. There was nothing for him there. Instead, he headed toward the Forbidden Black Forest, a place where even the Elders feared to go.

"The System wants more," Dayal thought, feeling the hunger in his soul again. "And the world has plenty to give."

As he disappeared into the dark forest, the sky began to turn grey. A storm was coming. But Dayal Karmakar was no longer afraid of the storm. He was the storm.
