Korin's training mainly focused on perception and control of the body.
At Duran's current stage, even if he used ki, it was mostly unnecessary—like drawing legs on a snake. It wouldn't help him seize the Ultra Divine Water at all. Even though Duran understood the purpose of Korin's training, successfully completing it was still far beyond him.
Unlike the simple-minded Son Goku, Duran thought too much. His mind was full of complicated thoughts, making it hard for him to concentrate completely.
When training, however, Duran immersed himself so fully that he lost track of time.
By the time he could finally keep up with Korin's movements, Goku had already returned. Goku had defeated King Piccolo and saved Earth for the first time.
Young Goku was truly adorable. Duran couldn't resist pinching his cheeks a few times. It was hard to imagine that this little boy had just saved the entire planet from King Piccolo.
Goku's next destination was Kami's Lookout, so he simply greeted Duran briefly before leaving. Duran didn't try to get closer to him. His own strength was far too weak right now.
After several more days, Duran's body had become much more agile. He could now keep up with Korin's movements.
He knew that if he could just predict Korin's movements, he would finally be able to grab the Ultra Divine Water.
However, when it came to controlling ki, Duran still hadn't made much progress. Even so, he believed that with more practice, he would eventually learn how to use ki for sensing.
Ki was a very mysterious power.
It could be used to attack, to fly, and even to detect others.
Duran repeatedly released ki from his body and then pulled it back again. At the same time, he practiced controlling its quantity and shape.
Unlike Goku or Krillin, Duran wasn't born in this world and didn't possess their extraordinary sensitivity to ki.
Therefore, the only method available to him was constant practice—training his ki until it became as natural as his own hands and feet.
With endless repetition and Korin personally guiding him, Duran's progress became extremely fast.
At the very least, when he used energy blasts now, they no longer turned into his embarrassing "Tathagata Palm."
Finally, after one month, Duran achieved his goal and drank the so-called Ultra Divine Water.
To be precise, it tasted just like plain boiled water.
Standing at the edge of Korin Tower, Duran performed a classic move:
"Ka—me—ha—me—HA!"
He thrust both hands forward, releasing a brilliant wave of energy.
"This level of power is probably comparable to Master Roshi's full-force attack."
Duran looked at his hands, feeling satisfied with his progress.
This meant his power level was now roughly 130.
Of course, compared to Goku and the others, he was still far behind. The main limitation was his physical body. Even though he possessed an endless source of ki inside him, his body couldn't fully handle it.
To grow stronger, he would have to continue strengthening his body.
If he wanted real combat training, he needed to practice martial arts—preferably by sparring with other fighters.
So Duran decided to seek training from Master Roshi.
But before doing that, he first planned to learn the Flying Technique.
Once he mastered basic ki control, learning flight became much easier.
After only two days, Duran could freely fly through the air.
Still, this also proved he had little natural talent. Videl, Mr. Satan's daughter, only needed three days from learning ki to flying freely.
Compared to the martial artists in the original story, Duran was far inferior.
After staying on Korin Tower for nearly two months, Duran finally prepared to leave and visit Master Roshi.
Before leaving, he asked Korin for a bag of Senzu Bean seeds and a large container of Senzu Beans.
Korin was surprisingly generous, which made Duran feel a little embarrassed. He promised he would bring delicious food the next time he visited.
There were still less than three years until the next World Martial Arts Tournament.
Goku was training at Kami's Lookout, and Piccolo Jr. had not yet matured.
Duran needed to hurry.
He planned to participate in the next tournament.
Back on Earth, he had been an ordinary, law-abiding nobody. But in the Dragon Ball world, he possessed a perpetual-energy cheat ability inside his body.
In this world where warriors bonded through combat, the fighting instinct sleeping inside him began to awaken.
Finding Master Roshi's house wasn't easy.
Fortunately, Korin had given him detailed directions.
A small island.
A single coconut tree.
A small house.
A beach chair and an umbrella.
After flying across the ocean for several hours, Duran finally arrived.
A bald old man, three bald young men, a beautiful woman, and a turtle greeted him.
"Who are you?" Krillin asked suspiciously.
The future strongest human on Earth was still just a young boy who hadn't grown yet.
Beside him stood Tien Shinhan, who had recently turned over a new leaf and was also training under Master Roshi.
Then there was Chiaotzu, who didn't stand out much. Even though he wore a hat, Duran knew he was bald too.
"You must be Krillin—Master Roshi's disciple," Duran said, looking down at the boy who only reached his chest.
"I came here to seek Master Roshi's guidance in martial arts."
Krillin didn't respond.
Instead, the old man spoke.
"You should go back. I'm no longer accepting disciples."
Duran deeply respected Master Roshi.
He was a noble martial artist, a great teacher, and a fearless warrior.
"You must be Master Roshi. Korin sent me here."
Mentioning Korin immediately made Roshi take him more seriously.
"Oh? You've met Korin?"
"Yes. I trained at Korin Tower."
"If you've already drunk the Ultra Divine Water, why come to me?"
"I want to learn martial arts combat training."
Master Roshi nodded and remained silent for a moment.
Finally, he said:
"I won't accept any more disciples. But if you only want to learn combat, I can give you some guidance. Besides, my students could use a sparring partner."
"Thank you, Master Roshi."
