Chapter 22 - Chapter 23- big week

The first week of the Random Life premiere was unlike anything the film industry had seen for a mid-budget drama. It didn't just open; it exploded. Lines snaked around city blocks in New York, London, and Los Angeles. The "Duo" had become a cultural phenomenon overnight, and the "burning" chemistry people had whispered about was now being analyzed by every major critic in the world.

The First Week NumbersBy the end of the seventh day, the box office returns were staggering. For a film with such gritty, dark subject matter, it had pulled in $12 million in its opening week alone—a massive feat for 1984.

Because of the "Success Clauses" Sarah had fought for in the London production office, the bonuses began to trigger immediately. Ten days after the premiere, a courier arrived at the Jones house with a certified check that made even Sarah's hands shake slightly.

The check was for $450,000—the combined total of Anastasia's back-end points and Cameron's breakout bonus.

"We did it," Beth whispered, staring at the numbers. "We're not just comfortable anymore, Stasia. We're dangerous."

The Partnership: Beyond the ScreenThat afternoon, the four of them gathered in the sunroom. The check sat in the middle of the table, but Anastasia wasn't looking at the money as a way to buy more jewelry or cars. She was looking at it as fuel.

"Cam," Anastasia said, sliding a contract across the table. "I don't want us to just be co-stars. I want us to be partners in everything. I've been watching a company. It's not in tech, and it's not in movies. It's in the way people live."

She pointed to the name on the document: Whole Foods Market.

In 1984, the company was still a small, burgeoning chain of natural food stores out of Texas. Most of Wall Street laughed at the idea of "organic" being a massive industry, but Anastasia saw the same pattern she had seen with Apple—a shift in human consciousness.

"I want us to pool a portion of this check," Anastasia proposed. "We buy in together, 50/50. It's our first joint investment outside of the Jones Firm. We're betting on the health of the future."

Cameron didn't even look at the financial projections. She looked at Anastasia. "If you're in, I'm in. I trust your eyes more than I trust any broker in this city."

They signed the papers right there, officially becoming partners in a venture that would, decades later, become a multi-billion dollar cornerstone of American retail.

The Call from the LegendThe celebration was interrupted by the ringing of the private line—the one only the most powerful people in the industry could reach. Sarah answered, her expression shifting from professional to stunned.

She covered the receiver. "Stasia... it's Ridley Scott."

The legendary director of Alien and Blade Runner didn't waste time with small talk. He had seen the premiere of Random Life in London and had been unable to sleep.

"I'm developing a project," Scott's voice crackled over the line. "It's a high-stakes, atmospheric thriller set in a near-future Tokyo. It needs two women who can hold the screen with a shared soul. I've seen the 'burn,' Anastasia. I want you and Diaz. I want the Firm. I'm sending a private jet to bring you to the studio tomorrow morning."

The Fortress ExpandsAnastasia took the phone, her voice calm and devoid of the "starstruck" energy that usually greeted directors of his stature.

"We'll be there, Mr. Scott," Anastasia said. "But my sisters will be in the meeting. We don't just sign onto scripts anymore. We help build the world."

As she hung up, the room was charged with an electric silence. They had the money, they had the partnership in a new industry, and now, they had the attention of the world's greatest visionaries.

"Pack your bags, girls," Beth said, a grin spreading across her face. "It looks like the Jones Firm is going to Tokyo."

Cameron leaned over and kissed Anastasia's forehead, that familiar heat in her chest glowing brighter than ever. "As long as we're together," Cameron whispered, "I don't care where we go."
