Chapter 11 - The call

Lena stared at the phone as it kept ringing.

Ryan calling…

Her heart pounded so loudly that it felt like the whole park could hear it.

"What do I do…?" she whispered.

If she answered, Ryan might realize she knew the truth.

But if she didn't answer, he might become suspicious.

The phone kept ringing.

Finally—

Lena took a deep breath and answered.

"Hello?"

For a second, there was only silence.

Then Ryan's voice came through the phone.

"Lena… where are you?"

His voice sounded calm.

Too calm.

Lena tried to sound normal.

"I… I'm at home."

There was a pause.

Ryan spoke again.

"That's strange."

A chill ran down Lena's spine.

"Why?" she asked carefully.

Ryan's voice became slightly colder.

"Because I just went to your apartment."

Lena's heart nearly stopped.

"He… what?"

Ryan continued.

"And you weren't there."

Lena struggled to breathe.

Her mind raced for an excuse.

"I went out for a walk," she said quickly.

Another pause.

Then Ryan chuckled softly.

"You know… Lena…"

His tone suddenly changed.

"You're a terrible liar."

Fear shot through her body.

"How do you—"

Ryan interrupted her.

"Did you enjoy the show tonight?"

Her hands started shaking.

So he knew.

He knew she had followed him.

The silence between them felt heavy.

Then Ryan spoke again.

"Since you already saw everything… we should talk."

Lena's heart pounded harder.

"I don't think that's a good idea."

Ryan laughed quietly.

"Oh, I think it is."

His voice became darker.

"Because the last time we had this conversation…"

Lena felt frozen in fear.

"…you didn't survive."

Her breathing stopped.

Ryan continued calmly.

"You remember now, don't you?"

Lena couldn't speak.

Her mind replayed the memory of the bridge again.

Ryan sighed softly.

"You should have just stayed out of my business, Lena."

Her hands trembled as she held the phone.

"What do you want from me?"

Ryan answered without hesitation.

"I want to finish what should have happened the first time."

The words felt like ice in her veins.

"You tried to ruin everything for me."

Another pause.

Then Ryan said something that made Lena's blood run cold.

"And right now…"

Her heart pounded.

"…I'm already on my way to you."

Lena looked around the empty park.

Fear filled her chest.

"How do you know where I am?"

Ryan's voice became almost playful.

"Lena…"

He chuckled.

"You're standing in Green Park."

Her eyes widened in shock.

"How—"

Ryan finished the sentence slowly.

"I can see you."

Lena's body froze.

Her heart felt like it stopped beating.

Very slowly—

She turned her head.

Across the dark park path…

A tall figure stood under a streetlight.

Ryan.

Watching her.

And smiling.
