Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 : Hunting Soul Rings (Part Two)

Here's your scene rewritten into polished English novel-style prose, keeping Du Feng's strategic thinking, his parents' guidance, and the Douluo world logic intact:

Chapter 4: Choosing the First Soul Ring

Du Tu crouched down, looking at his son with a serious expression. "Feng'er, which spirit beast would you like as your first soul ring? I personally suggest aiming for one with strong attack power—a large beast, like a dragon, bear, tiger, or elephant."

He leaned closer, voice heavy with experience. "These beasts are rare, but their offensive and defensive capabilities are extraordinary. A dragon spirit beast, in particular, could grant you a powerful offensive skill set and greatly enhance your physical attributes. For a power-attack type Soul Master, such a soul ring would be life-changing. But be aware—they mostly live alone and in fixed territories. Finding one will take time. We can't rush this."

Du Feng considered this carefully. "Father, my target is the Thousand-Pound Ant. They can move objects many times their own weight. I believe it will grant me a good strength-attribute soul skill."

Du Tu's brow furrowed. "Thousand-Pound Ants? They are easy enough to find, but are you certain? The beasts I mentioned—dragons, tigers, bears, elephants—offer far stronger spirit skills and greater physical enhancement. As a power-attack type Soul Master, you'd benefit much more from them."

Du Feng shook his head confidently. "I'm sure. My talent will carry me to Soul Douluo level eventually. A hundred-year-old offensive skill from one of those beasts won't matter much later. I'd rather gain amplification spirit skills early—they'll strengthen my future abilities and make my attacks far more terrifying. As for physical strength, I can compensate by hunting stronger soul beasts later."

Du Tu and Jiang Mu exchanged glances, both nodding in approval. Early amplification skills would reduce spirit power consumption and offer long-term benefits—a solid strategic choice.

Jiang Mu smiled softly. "Since Feng'er has made up his mind, we'll follow his plan. Thousand-Pound Ants are relatively easy to find. If we encounter a rare, powerful beast along the way, we can reconsider. But Feng'er, have you decided on the age of the Thousand-Pound Ant for your first soul ring?"

Du Feng's gaze hardened. "I want one close to four hundred years old."

He knew the Grandmaster's theory: the maximum age for a Soul Master's first soul ring is 423 years. Choosing anything younger would put him at a disadvantage against other offensive-type Soul Masters, both in skill potency and physical attributes. Choosing older was impossible—he couldn't risk his life attempting it.

Look at Tang San, Du Feng thought. He cultivated the Mysterious Heaven Skill from birth, strengthened his body relentlessly, and trained the Purple Demon Eye every morning. Even for him, absorbing a four-hundred-year-old Mandragora Serpent was incredibly difficult.

Yet, he wasn't willing to settle for mediocrity. The Thousand-Pound Ant, though not a top-tier beast, was ideal for amplifying his early abilities. It was the best choice for a calculated start.

"Alright," Jiang Mu said decisively. "Let's start looking for a suitable Thousand-Pound Ant."

The morning passed in a blur of walking, observation, and scouting. By noon, Du Feng was drenched in sweat. Though his body was strong for his age, continuous trekking and focus had nearly exhausted his stamina.

Jiang Mu knelt beside him, concern in her eyes. "Feng'er, you're already showing signs of fatigue. Even if we find a suitable soul beast now, it's unlikely you can absorb it safely. Continuing like this could be dangerous."

Du Tu nodded, scanning the forest for a safe spot. "We'll rest here. Thousand-Pound Ants are most active from dawn to dusk. We'll start tracking one at night, follow it back to its lair, and select one of appropriate age for your first soul ring."

They found a shaded clearing, set up camp, and finally allowed themselves a brief respite. No foolish soul beasts appeared to trouble them. For now, the forest was silent, and the three prepared for the night hunt that would mark the true beginning of Du Feng's soul ring journey.
