Night had settled quietly over the academy.
The grand towers stood tall under the silver glow of the moon, their shadows stretching across the marble courtyards. Lanterns flickered along the walkways, but most students had already returned to their dormitories.
Except one.
Kai leaned against the stone railing of the academy's highest balcony.
The cool night wind brushed past him, carrying the scent of blooming moon lilies from the gardens below.
His eyes were fixed on the sky.
Ever since the battle in the forest two days ago, sleep had become difficult.
Every time he closed his eyes…
He saw lightning.
Not ordinary lightning.
Violet lightning.
And sometimes only for a moment he saw something else.
A throne.
A massive throne carved from black crystal, surrounded by endless storms.
Kai exhaled slowly.
"What exactly am I…?" he murmured.
The memory of that moment in the forest still felt unreal.
The lightning had obeyed him.
Not like magic.
Not like a spell.
It had answered him like a loyal servant.
Kai clenched his fist slightly.
Violet sparks flickered around his fingers before fading again.
Footsteps approached behind him.
"Kai."
He turned.
Luna stood at the entrance of the balcony.
Her silver hair flowed softly in the wind, glowing faintly under the moonlight. She wore a simple academy uniform, yet there was a quiet elegance about her that was impossible to ignore.
Kai smiled faintly.
"I had a feeling you'd find me."
Luna crossed her arms.
"You disappeared after dinner again. It wasn't very hard to guess."
She walked over and leaned beside him on the railing.
For a moment, they simply watched the moon together.
The silence felt peaceful.
But Luna eventually spoke.
"You've been acting strange lately."
Kai chuckled huuh!
"Strange? That's a little harsh."
"You know what I mean."
Her voice softened slightly.
"Something happened to you in the forest."
Kai didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he looked at the moon again.
"I wish I knew how to explain it."
Luna studied his face carefully.
"Kai… you saved everyone that day."
"I didn't do it alone."
"But you were the one who fought the beast."
Kai shrugged.
"I got lucky."
Luna suddenly laughed.
"You think I'm that easy to fool?"
Kai raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?"
She turned toward him, her silver eyes shining brightly.
"That lightning."
Kai froze.
"You saw it."
"Of course I saw it."
Kai rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
"That might have been… some kind of rare magic."
"Rare?" Luna repeated.
"Very rare."
"How rare?"
Kai hesitated.
"…extremely rare."
Luna stared at him for a few seconds.
Then she sighed.
"You're terrible at lying."
Kai burst out laughing.
"Alright, maybe a little."
But Luna didn't push further.
Instead, she looked back at the sky.
"I don't need to know everything."
Kai blinked.
"You don't?"
She shook her head gently.
"As long as you're still the Kai I know."
Those words hit him harder than expected.
For a brief moment, Kai didn't know how to respond.
In his mind, fragments of another life flickered again.
A battlefield.
A storm.
Countless warriors kneeling before him.
And a crown of lightning above his head.
Kai forced the memory away.
He turned toward Luna again.
"You trust me that much?"
She smiled softly.
"Of course."
The moonlight reflected in her eyes.
Kai suddenly noticed how close they were standing.
The wind lifted a strand of Luna's hair across her face.
Without thinking, Kai reached out and gently moved it aside.
Their eyes met.
Luna's cheeks turned slightly pink.
Neither of them moved.
For a moment, it felt like the entire world had gone quiet.
Then
BOOOOM!
A massive explosion echoed across the academy.
The ground trembled slightly.
Kai's expression instantly sharpened.
"That came from the training grounds."
Another explosion followed.
Students began shouting in the distance.
"What's happening?" Luna asked.
Kai's instincts screamed danger.
"That wasn't a normal spell."
They rushed down the corridors towards the source of the noise.
By the time they reached the training arena, chaos had already erupted.
Students crowded the edges of the massive battlefield.
Teachers stood in defensive formation.
And at the center of the arena,
Something monstrous roared.
Kai's eyes widened.
A massive demon beast stood among the shattered pillars of the arena.
Its crimson scales glowed faintly in the firelight and its claws tore deep cracks into the stone floor.
The creature's yellow eyes burned with pure rage.
"How did a demon beast get inside the academy?!" Luna whispered.
Kai felt something was terribly wrong.
The academy's barrier should have prevented any monster from entering.
Unless…
Someone had broken the barrier from the inside.
The beast suddenly roared and charged forward.
One of the instructors attempted to stop it.
But the creature slammed him aside with terrifying force.
Students screamed and ran in panic.
The beast's gaze shifted towards a group of terrified students near the arena wall.
It lunged.
Too fast.
Too powerful.
Kai's heart pounded.
He didn't think.
He simply moved.
"Kai!" Luna shouted behind him.
But he had already stepped into the arena.
The instructors looked shocked.
"Student! Get back!"
The demon beast locked its glowing eyes onto Kai.
For a moment…
It stopped moving.
Almost as if it recognized something.
Kai felt the strange power inside his chest awaken again.
The wind began to swirl around him.
Violet sparks flickered across his skin.
Not fear.
Not panic.
Something older.
Something ancient.
The beast roared and charged.
The ground shook under its massive steps.
Students screamed.
But Kai stood still.
The world around him slowed.
And inside his mind…
The ancient voice returned.
Cold.
Commanding.
"Do not fear them."
Kai raised his hand slowly.
Lightning gathered around his fingers.
The sky above the arena darkened.
Clouds began to swirl.
Even the instructors stared in disbelief.
Kai's voice came out calm.
Too calm.
"Stop."
CRACK!
A bolt of violet lightning exploded from the sky.
The blast struck the ground directly in front of the charging beast.
The entire arena shook.
Dust and sparks filled the air.
When the smoke cleared
The demon beast had collapsed.
Unconscious.
Defeated.
Complete silence fell across the academy.
Hundreds of students stared at Kai in shock.
The instructors looked equally stunned.
Even Luna couldn't hide her amazement.
Kai stood in the center of the arena, breathing slowly.
The lightning faded from his body.
But the voice inside his mind whispered once more.
"The world will soon remember you."
Kai clenched his fists.
Somewhere deep in his heart…
He felt it too.
Something big was coming.
Something that would change everything.
High above the academy…
Hidden among the clouds…
A mysterious figure watched the entire scene.
Their crimson eyes glowed in the darkness.
And a quiet laugh echoed through the night.
"So it's true…"
"The Sovereign has awakened."
The figure slowly disappeared into the storm.
And far below
Kai unknowingly took the first step toward a destiny that would shake the entire world.
