Chapter 2 - Is This the “Shinigami Elementary School Student” Set?

The weather really did change without warning.

Just moments ago the sky had been perfectly clear. Yet the moment Jiang Hang came downstairs, rain began falling out of nowhere.

Fortunately, it was only a light drizzle. Judging by the clouds, it would probably stop soon. Since the rain wasn't heavy, Jiang Hang didn't bother going back home to grab an umbrella.

Instead, he jogged through the light rain toward the location where he had seen the golden glow with Eagle Vision.

After gaining the assassin bloodline, Jiang Hang's physical condition had improved noticeably.

Of course, it wasn't some miraculous transformation.

Even an assassin wouldn't magically become strong if he spent all day staying indoors, playing games and watching anime.

From the rooftop earlier, the golden glow hadn't looked very far away. But once he started running through the streets, Jiang Hang quickly realized the distance was longer than it seemed.

By the time he finally reached the street where the villa stood, Jiang Hang was already breathing heavily.

At that moment, the system seemed to notice his lack of stamina and immediately issued a new task.

[System Notification]

Host stamina levels detected to be insufficient.

As a detective, you must possess a strong body and ample stamina in order to handle the various situations encountered during investigations.

Even with the assistance of the system, physical training cannot be neglected.

A long-term sign-in mission has been issued. Please check the mission interface for details.

Jiang Hang opened the interface and read the new mission.

Sign-In Mission: Daily Training

Complete the following exercises to perform a daily check-in:

10-kilometer run100 push-ups100 squats100 sit-ups

After completing the above exercises, the host may perform one daily check-in.

Accumulated check-ins will grant corresponding rewards.

Seeing this so-called "Daily Training" mission, Jiang Hang's mouth twitched slightly.

He was extremely familiar with this routine.

Wasn't this the famous Saitama Training Regimen?

"So what exactly is this system trying to do?" Jiang Hang muttered. "Make me exercise every day… or turn me into a bald hero?"

But it was already very late tonight.

Clearly, today's training wouldn't happen. Jiang Hang simply planned to collect the feather nearby and head home. He would start the so-called daily training tomorrow.

He activated Eagle Vision once again.

The moment it opened, the world before Jiang Hang's eyes instantly became sharper and clearer. Various objects were highlighted by glowing outlines.

Ordinary people emitted a faint gray glow.

Certain objects shone with a soft blue light.

Jiang Hang didn't fully understand what those blue-highlighted objects represented. However, based on his experience with the game, glowing items usually indicated something important.

Perhaps those objects held significance to someone.

Among all the glowing lights, the most eye-catching one was the dazzling golden glow atop the villa not far away.

That had to be the feather he needed to collect.

However, something else suddenly caught Jiang Hang's attention.

As he focused on the villa's rooftop, another glow appeared in his vision.

A striking red light.

During the entire week since obtaining Eagle Vision, Jiang Hang had used it dozens of times.

But this was the first time he had ever seen something emitting a red glow.

He focused his gaze more carefully.

Soon, Jiang Hang realized that the red glow actually belonged to the figure of a child—roughly six or seven years old.

"Red glow… what does that represent?" Jiang Hang muttered to himself, curiosity instantly rising. "Don't tell me that means… an 'assassination target'?"

The feather could be collected anytime.

But if he didn't figure out the identity of that child tonight, Jiang Hang was certain he wouldn't be able to sleep.

He deactivated Eagle Vision and quietly approached.

Soon, Jiang Hang spotted the child clearly.

"This kid…"

At first glance, Jiang Hang noticed something strange.

The child's face was dirty, making him look somewhat disheveled. The clothes he wore didn't fit properly either.

It was as if an elementary school child had been forced into clothing meant for a high school student.

"Is he a homeless kid?"

Watching the child wandering near the villa's entrance, Jiang Hang considered the possibility.

But that alone didn't explain the red glow.

Surely Eagle Vision wouldn't specifically highlight an ordinary homeless child.

There had to be something unusual about him.

Jiang Hang wasn't the type to ignore someone in need. After thinking it over, he decided to approach and ask whether the child needed help.

However, just as Jiang Hang got closer, the child noticed someone approaching and immediately turned toward him with obvious caution.

Seeing Jiang Hang's unfamiliar face, the child panicked.

Before Jiang Hang could even speak, the child suddenly ran away.

Jiang Hang instinctively prepared to chase after him.

But at that exact moment, something else caught his attention.

At the entrance of the villa where the child had been standing, a nameplate hung beside the gate.

Two characters stood clearly on it.

Kudo.

The moment Jiang Hang saw that name, it felt like a bolt of lightning struck his mind.

Several clues instantly connected in his head.

A rainy night.

A strange child wearing oversized clothing.

The name Kudo.

And the sign he had seen earlier at the intersection when he arrived…

Beika Town.

"…You've got to be kidding me."

Jiang Hang's face froze.

"This is the filming set of the Shinigami elementary school student!"

Until now, he had been wondering why the system had stayed silent for so long before suddenly resurrecting tonight and transforming itself into a Detective System.

After all, in the real world, private detectives weren't particularly impressive.

Most cases involved trivial matters—lost pets, cheating spouses, or other mundane investigations.

Even if someone became a so-called legendary detective, it wouldn't be especially remarkable.

But if this world was the setting of Detective Conan, everything was different.

In that anime, detectives held extremely high status.

Shinichi Kudo, despite being only a high school student, was known as the "Heisei Era Sherlock Holmes."

He was also called the "Savior of the Japanese Police."

Even Inspector Megure treated him respectfully and often sought his assistance during investigations.

In a world where murder cases happened constantly, an outstanding detective could easily gain tremendous social standing.

Jiang Hang suddenly shouted in his mind.

"System! System! Get out here! I need an explanation!"

Perhaps realizing the situation could no longer be hidden, the system finally responded to his questioning.

[System Notification]

According to the system's original plan, the host should have arrived in Florence in the year 1476.

However, due to an unknown anomaly during dimensional travel, the host was mistakenly transported to the current world.

After conducting extensive analysis and comparison, the system has confirmed that the detective profession in this world is closely connected to the core structure of the world itself.

If the host becomes a Legendary Detective in this world, the system will have a high probability of absorbing the world's core energy.

This energy will provide sufficient power for the host's next dimensional transfer.

Therefore, the host is requested to cooperate with the system and become the greatest assas—… detective in this world.

Jiang Hang listened silently.

The explanation sounded quite convincing.

If only the system hadn't nearly said "assassin" again at the end.
