Chapter 1 - A Second Life Begins (Chapter 1)

BEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPP!

The heart monitor flatlined. That was the end of him.

That was the last thing Christian heard before his eyes shut for a final time in this reality. The reality where he was struck down by a terminal illness that could not be cured in time. He regretted his life. A struggling fantasy novelist who went unnoticed. He devoted his life to his craft, yet it all went away in the blink of an eye.

When he awoke, he was greeted by a blinding light of a figure standing in front of him.

Christian quickly covered his eyes by raising his arm in front of him. As the light toned down, he looked around himself as he stood up. He was standing in the middle of, well, nothing. He was in another dimension, like he was floating in space, but somehow grounded in this very space by some unknown gravity.

"Welcome Christian! The reason you are here right now is because the world treated you harshly and cruelly. You have a good soul that we Gods recognize, so we uh want to give you a second chance at life!" the powerful voice rang out to him. The divine figure who spoke was covered in such an intense yellow aura that Christian couldn't fully tell what he looked like.

This was a lot for Christian to process at once.

"Second life? Gods? What in the world—" Christian mumbled to himself.

"Yes! Normally we do not do this sort of thing, but we made an exception for you. We do not want what happened last time to happen in this world, so we will grant you two divine blessings!"

The God in yellow declared as he moved his hand in a swift motion, causing Christian to be enveloped in a white and green aura. His body suddenly felt lighter. He felt stronger and more alive than ever. He felt like he could take on the world.

"What the—" Christian exclaimed.

"Do not worry. What is happening is normal. It is your soul integrating with the blessings we have given you. You will never be able to be struck down by any illness ever again, and you have the ability to be protected from all kinds of various attacks. This way, you should be able to live a long, healthy, peaceful life! There are more abilities that come with these blessings, but you have to figure them out yourself," the God said while nodding to himself in approval.

Christian slowly nodded back at the God in yellow. Well these blessings will keep me alive longer that is for sure. He must be a God if he knew I wanted a peaceful life. Christian walked closer to the God with curiosity in his eyes.

"In this new world, will I be given a new body? What is in this new world?"

The God nodded. "Yes! You will be given a younger body of an eighteen-year-old boy, and you can keep your name, of course. In this new world, it is unlike anything from your past. In this world: dragons, elves, dwarfs, ogres, vampires, etc. are all very real! That is why we have given you blessings to give you a better chance at survival as a human. Would you like to be sent to this world?"

Christian's eyes widened. "Yes I would love to be! I would love to be able to see these magical creatures for real. I had no idea they were real in another dimension. This is exactly what I used to dream about in my previous life. Is there anything more I should know?"

The God shook his head. "You have been given the resources. It is time now you figure your new life out on your own and how to use your divine tools. Once you have entered, we cannot interfere directly with your new life, but we can observe and help on the side. I will give you a third and final divine tool, but it will be given to you at the right moment once you are in the world. Good luck Christian, may your new life be a better one!"

Christian's vision quickly went black as the last thing he saw was the mysterious God wave goodbye.

Grass.

That was the first thing he felt as he opened his eyes to a bright blue sky. The sun was shining brightly in this new world, casting light over the mountains and grass fields. The sound of a stream could be heard, as well as the quacks of some ducks. The birds above him chirped as they soared through the sky.

Christian groaned as he stood up.

The God wasn't kidding when he told Christian he would be sent to a remote area. The things around him were beautiful. The mountains. The grass fields. The bright blue sky. It was as if he was teleported straight into a painting that was the symbolism of "Spring" itself. He had animals around him, but there wasn't a human soul or settlement within sight.

Christian stretched his arms and thought about what to do next.

It was the afternoon. The sun was high in the sky, but he knew that he needed to seek shelter fast. He had no idea what dangerous creatures lurked at night, and even if there weren't any, he didn't want to find out. The grass crunched under his shoes as he ran alongside the stream. Water was an important thing to be nearby in case he got thirsty. It also allowed him to keep track of his location roughly.

Ducks looked at him as he ran by them. Butterflies were occasionally spotted along the stream. A few rabbits made noise in the bushes near the stream. Christian could tell this place would be full of wildlife. He kept running for what felt like a couple of miles and stopped. His breathing was normal. He didn't feel slightly tired or thirsty. Christian knew this was not normal.

He turned his hands over and looked at himself. A faint green light glowed from him until it faded back until it was invisible. He smiled. This is probably one of the blessings from those Gods. I feel like I have been given limitless stamina and no urge to drink or eat. Christian did keep note, though, that he would try to drink something later just to be safe.

He kept running alongside the stream and pausing to take notes about the things around him. Christian had a rough idea now about the terrain and how far he had travelled. The sun was beginning to set. The mark of early evening.

At this point, he knew he needed to find shelter. He didn't know what to do. Christian found a perfect grass open area surrounded by trees, but he had nothing to chop them down to make something. That was until he found an axe lying by one of the trees.

Christian ran over to the axe and picked it up. It radiated such power, but it felt so light and easy for Christian to use. This must be the third and final tool that God was talking about. He thought to himself as he picked it up and swung at one of the trees to make logs. The axe sliced cleanly through the tree like it was butter. Christian was shocked.

The Gods had been very good to him.

The sun started to dip below the horizon. Night time was coming.

Christian knew he was all on his own now from here on out.

He would build his home here away from everything.
