Chapter 1 - THE SISTERS

Seeing April and June, at first glance we could not know that they were in fact two years apart. April was the first to be born, then her sister followed her. Both were the eyes of their parents, and they cherished their daughters and their happiness. When the eldest was six years old and her youngest daughter four, the family made a fresh start in the city of Wonju, where the father of the family was assigned to take up a professorship in the local university.

The girls lived the new beginning quite well. Everyone knew the duo of pretty young foreign girls, always styled and dressed the same way. April and June had a beautiful childhood. They seemed to be alike in every way; then gradually began to take on their identity when they entered college. April was reserved, prudish and strict. June was a bit of her antagonist, she was friendly, jay and naïve. When one blew cold with her chilling gaze, the other warmed with her welcoming smile.

As they grew up, the bond between them grew stronger. The two sisters had the same friends, and they still sometimes did the same hairstyle or wore the same color. Unfortunately, during her second year of high school, April's mother died after a long period of illness. The family was greatly weakened by the bereavement, but very quickly, their bond grew closer to face it. April became more protective of her sister, as June became more dependent on her affection and approval of her life. The youngest did everything she could to stay close to her sister, even if it meant following her to the metropolis.

April won a scholarship to a university in Seoul, she opted for medicine. His sister; Less focused on science, chooses management instead. Unfortunately for June, who wanted to stay with her sister, she got a scholarship to a college at the other end of town, opposite her older sister's. However, they remained in constant contact, and not a weekend went by without them meeting for a drink or a meal. Thus, hand in hand, the Ella sisters were bound by a bond stronger than blood. The love they had for each other was unshakeable. Until things change, hearts are set ablaze and jealousy, revenge and resentment to put rain on this blazing fire...

Let's go back a year ago.

It was a spring evening. Like every weekend, the Ella sisters would gather around a table to share a good meal and spend good time. Because of her new job at the hospital, April had already cancelled far too many parties, the twenty-five-year-old could no longer put her sister away, she had already missed her birthday party two weeks before. In addition, June had told her that she wanted to discuss something important with her.

The older one served her sister beer, then she asked, "Go ahead, what did you want to talk to me about?"

June took the drink and drank it in one gulp, excited and asked her sister, "Eonni, you remember Go Taejon, don't you?"

April's face was already translating the answer, "Go who?"

"Go Taejon, the little footballer in high school, he spent his time breaking his glasses and his mother came to make a scandal for it every day, come on!" insisted June, trying to revive the memory of her eldest.

April didn't notice many people in her high school, the memory was blurry. She thought for a moment, and at last the character came back to her. She said, "Ah, Go Taejon, gronaldo!"

"Yes! Wait, this name doesn't mean anything to me. June remarked.

"The elders called him that because he was a good player, but they said 'he's Ronaldo with more mass'," explained the elder.

"Ah... »

"Hmm."

" Okay well, this is kind of bullying but anyway... In short! Go Taejon and I were in the same university. And imagine that he is now far from his dark years! You, look... June showed her sister a photo that appeared to be of a model on a shoot, then added, "He's a lawyer now, well for now just on an internship. But the company where he works plans to hire him after he graduates. »

"Hmm." The table was silent for a moment, April gazing at her sister with suspicion. She asked him the question that was on her mind at the moment: "And why are you telling me about Go Taejon all of a sudden?"

The brunette arched her back, June swept her rebellious locks behind her ear, all searching for words. Still a little hesitant, she said anyway: "Eonni, well, you see... Recently, we've talked a lot about the good old days and we've gotten to know each other again. He's still as funny and nice and as intelligent, and he already has his career well mapped out. "

April listened to her for a moment, before finally interrupting her with, "What are you getting at?"

June stared at her sister, apprehensive of her reaction, she decided to continue anyway. The young woman reached into the pocket of the jacket of her coat and took out a blue box, she slowly placed it on the table and slid it on. April remained in a state of shock, speechless. She stammered, "Is it a ring inside?"

June smiled with all her teeth, excited and replied, "Yes!"

"June-ah... »

"He gave it to me as a birthday present, but I wanted to explain the situation to you first, so you won't get a wrong idea."

April still didn't say anything, and her face didn't seem so jovial at this news, she seemed worried. The youngest convinces her: "Don't worry, it's not an engagement, just a commitment."

"An engagement ring is a commitment," April finally says, breaking her silence. The young woman blew and took the box. Before opening it, April looked one last time at her sister's worried face. Slowly, she opened the box and was immediately dazzled by the jewels that adorned the butterfly of the ring. "It must have cost a fortune, my God..." »

"It's just a gift, nothing official! Don't worry, before going any further, I'd ask you and Dad. »

"June, this ring is nothing informal, it's an engagement ring. If he doesn't tell you, it's probably because he's rushing things and he's afraid of panicking you. April explained patiently as she returned the ring.

June sulked, it probably meant that her eldest was against her keeping it. She took the box and answered, "Is that true? Anyway, I wouldn't mind marrying him if he asks me to. »

"I beg your pardon?"

"Ah... June raised her head, realizing that her words had gone beyond her thoughts, she corrected herself by saying, "I mean, Taejon is a nice guy, he's nice and he's always treated me well since I've known him. »

April didn't know if her youngest daughter was speaking out of naivety or ignorance, so she immediately reframed her: "Miss Ella, first, you had to think about your career before you thought about getting engaged at just twenty-three."

"But... »

"Then, we don't marry because he's a 'nice guy'. Do you know him well enough, do you know his past, his plans for the future or even if he really plans to marry you? Will his family accept a foreign marriage, will you be able to assume your choices and? ... »

"Stop!" June stopped her, overwhelmed. The young woman sulked again to her sister: "Eonni! Taejon-oppa is a good man, I'm sure you have as many apprehensions because you still see the him from high school, but he's a different adult now! Please give him a chance, hum? »

April was silent for a moment, looking at the dejected pout of her sister who was begging him with both hands clasped together. The eldest nodded and replied, "Hmm! But he had better let you down or I'd make his life hell. »

"Arrh! Eonni, thank you. You'll see, Taejon-oppa won't disappoint you. He's a man of his word, he really makes me very happy! June cried before throwing herself into her arms.

What June didn't see was that her sister wasn't just worried about her but something deeper. Strangely, April felt an inner bitterness, a feeling of defeat or a failed act, the idea of knowing that her sister would marry a man like Taejon stirred up in her a certain unhappiness but for the reason expected.
