Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

-No pov-

In Kuoh town the sun is just now rising for the residents. One such resident was less then happy about the sun shining in their room. He reached over for his curtains to close them before then promptly falling out of bed and cursing the world.

Jack then sat up and groaned to himself. "Great, another day of school" he sighed to himself and got up to take a shower before drying and getting dressed once more, putting on a sleeveless top and another pair of jeans for today.

He walked down his stairs and quickly made his breakfast and lunch just like the previous day, and quickly made his way out the door running down the street and arriving very fast. He had another 15 minutes before classes started so he sat in the classroom for the remaining time he had to wait.

--Timeskip--

School had just ended once more and I was looking forward to going to the arcade once more, but before I could do that a message appeared.

[Roulette feature unlocked. 1 spin remaining]

After reading the systems notification I made my way home immediately so I spin the roulette. I arrived home in record time and sat down on my couch, opened the shop and swapped to the roulette screen.

[Welcome to the roulette. Here you may gain 1 spin per week allowing you to spin for certain things listed that week. This weeks spins include: Sharingan; Buster sword; 100,000 Yen; 1,000,000 Yen; +10 To all stats; Five tier 3 Hp potions; Five tier 3 mana potions; One time zombie dungeon use.]

I was definitely interested now. All of these options were to my liking, especially the money right now as I don't have much with me. The stat increase would be nice. The Hp potions would end up being a huge help later on. The buster sword is a great weapon. The sharingan is just plain busted. And I don't know much about the zombie dungeon option.

With enough stalling done I pressed the spin button, a large golden wheel appearing on the screen and spinning the nine prizes around. It took about a minute for it to stop on... One time zombie dungeon use.

[One time zombie dungeon use: Freezes time in current world and sends the user to a dungeon full of zombies. To use rip in half. (Difficulty: Human -> low class)]

Reading it's description I got the gist of how it worked and was not disappointed, well slightly because I didn't get the money, but I digress. This is a great opportunity to grow stronger if all my stat's were put together I'd probably be around low mid-class in terms of overall combat power.

While that is good for now it's not ideal. I need at the very least High or Ultimate class to live comfortably in the supernatural. Now you may be asking "But Jack, why not just stay out of the supernatural?" My answer? It's boring as fuck. I've already lived a life in the natural and it was so boring. During my childhood I did school and played. As an adult I worked, ate, and slept.

Fuck that.

I ain't looking for a repeat of my previous life. I want something new, something exciting. But I also know this world is dangerous and one wrong move means death, so I need to be careful and powerful.

So without much more stalling I pulled out what looked like a ticket and ripped it in half as it said to do, and I felt a feeling of weightlessness before being grounded again. I was in a dark stone room that had to be several dozen meters big with giant stone columns, and painted murals across the walls. The top of this place was covered in a glass dome that light shone through.

When I looked up through the dome I couldn't see anything outside, it was like there was so much light that all you could see is white, yet for some reason it hurt my eyes nor did it push too much light through the glass and into the chamber.

My observations were cut short when I heard a groan from behind me, and turning showed it to be this places zombie. It was a greyish humanoid figure with arms a little too long with clawed hands, clawed feet, hollow black eyes, and a body that looked like stretched skin over bone.

It wasn't particularly fast and even nearly tripped a few times, but I didn't let that fool me as I wasn't about to let my guard down. As soon as I was about to attack a health bar appeared above it's head, so I loosened my stance and the bar disappeared, and once more taking a stance the bar appeared again.

It showed both Health, Mana, and level. This zombie had 100 health, 10 mana, and was level 1. I didn't wait any longer and struck it once in the chest and felt it's ribs shatter, and the force launched it back into the stone wall causing it to splatter blood across it.

[You have killed a zombie. +2Xp added to end of dungeon value]

'So I only get the Xp after the dungeon? That's fair I guess. otherwise I'd probably be here for a long time' I smiled and waited for another zombie to spawn, but this time two spawned and their stats were higher. They both now had 200 health, 20 mana, and were level 2. Now I was curious so I struck the first in the head and then the other in the chest again. Both died nearly instantly.

[You have killed 2 zombies. +4Xp added to end of dungeon value]

After killing those two, another three appeared with higher stats again this time being health of 300, mana of 30, and level 3.

'So each time I kill them one extra spawns and their stats increase by 100, 10, and 1. So each new wave of zombies will have 100 more health, 10 more mana, and 1 more level.' I smirked at this, because not only would this be good training to control myself, but the xp increase over time would be insane.

Something I noticed the first time about my stats is that each endurance point corresponds to 20 Hp. And each point in intelligence is 30 Mp. So that means that each time I kill a wave their endurance stat should increase by 5 points, but I don't know what's up with the Mp thing.

The first zombie had 10 Mp and you can't go below 30, or at least you shouldn't be able too. But who knows, this is a dungeons, I'm fighting a zombie, and I now live in a world full of supernatural figures. Logic now feels like a fleeting value that's nearing zero.

"Well not like it matters. Just makes things easier for me the lower your stats are." I grin and crack my knuckles as mana surges to my fists.

[Host has created skill mana infusion] [Mana infusion(C): This skill allows the user to infuse mana into anything they touch. The more mana used, the higher the enhanced durability.]

I laughed slightly and immediately started punching the zombies, killing each in one hit. four spawned now and I killed them as well. Now five spawned and died, then six, then seven, then eight.

Something I started to notice is while they have a lot of health their actual defense to strikes is pitiful and match their actual bodies. Their rotting, no fat or muscle, just skin and bones. So there's nothing there to actually take the brunt of the force besides their organs, if they have any, and their bones.

Luckily that made this easier for me, but this was definitely going to get difficult quickly as I've already noticed the increase in their speed. And while they won't do much damage, their strength probably isn't something to joke about.

--30 Minute Timeskip--

I am now breathing hard as the waves are now wearing me down a good bit. I'm currently on wave 31, and the zombies now take at least 4 or 5 strikes to go down. Their bodies are tougher now, their numbers make it difficult to kill one without being hit by another. Worst of all they've gotten smarter as they're now capitalizing off the death of their brothers.

The system had kept count of how many I've killed and the current count has hit 465 zombies. I'm tired, hurt, and mentally exhausted after fighting for so long. I reach over and hit the exit button the system as this is my limit right now.

Reappearing in my livingroom and landing on my couch with a dull thud I simply groan and lay there to rest for a moment. Pretty soon though I'm pushing myself up and looking at the screen in front of me.

__________

During my stay in that place which the system counted 8 hours. I created a few skills through trial and error, as well as got some more passive skills that helped me inside that place more then once.

[Corpse bomb(A): Infuse a corpse with a high amount of mana and detonate the corpse at will, causing high damage.]

[Mana detonation(A): Store a certain amount of mana into a sphere and toss it, or can be triggered from hosts body. Releases a large volatile wave of mana, causing high damage. Can be combined with [Mana bullet(C)]]

[Mana bullet(C): Forms mana orbs at the tip of users fingers that they can launch at high speed. More mana used = faster bullets and higher damage. Can be combined with [Mana detonation(A)]]

The amount of times I'd have to back off and heal for a while before continuing to fight was more then a dozen times, but I definitely improved in there. I was finally able to pull punches, conceal my aura, and sense other auras. The odd thing is it apparently isn't a 'skill'.

But regardless, I need some sleep. My wounds may already be healing but the nonstop bloodshed definitely wore me out. I'm honestly ready for a normal day of school, as much as I despise saying that.

--Timeskip | Next day--

Remember when I said I was excited for school the next day? Well I lied, cuz this is boring as heck. I'd prefer the endless hoards of zombies over this any day. But I have to go through this cuz I want to appear normal for the moment.

Currently I and Aika are in our math class and it's near the end of the lesson when someone opens the door to the room. I and everyone else look over and see Yuuto Kiba, who most of the girls immediately start fawning over. I was both surprised and not to see Aika not fawning.

While yes she is perverted, she didn't seem the type to publicly fawn over someone. She'd disrespect you, even insult your dick size, but fawning wasn't either of those. Also I doubt Yuuto is her type, just doesn't seem to fit you know?

Regardless of my thoughts, Yuuto greeted his fangirls and walked over our direction. I immediately tensed not liking where this was going, and for good reason too. "Hello, I believe your name was Jack, correct?" In response I gave a hesitant nod.

Yuuto smiled and outstretched his hand "My name is Yuuto Kiba. Please call me Yuuto. I've come to find you as our club president wants to meet you." I took his hand and shook it, but on the inside I was screaming my metaphorical lungs out.

'FUUUUUUUUUUUCK! This is exactly what I hoped wouldn't happen. So much for being optimistic. You know what, it's find. I'll just be careful and try not to make enemies of them.' I stood up and replied "Very well. Take me to your club."

He nodded and started walking out the door so I followed after him. We walked through the halls before exiting the main building and followed a path to the old schoolhouse outside. The outside left a little to be desired, but like the anime, the inside looked much nicer.

Walking down one final hall Yuuto knocks on a pair of doors and soon after gets a "Come in" as reply. He opened the door and motioned me in which I complied too. And stepping inside I saw an exact copy of the clubroom from my memory. Two couches on either side of a table with Rias Gremory's desk at the end of the two couches. Rias Gremory is the heir to the Gremory family, she has long blood red hair that falls just short of her legs, and greenish blue eyes.

Speaking of which she's sitting at her desk right now while eyeing me. I must say that makes me uncomfortable, but I quickly shake it off. I step fully into the room and see two other people here. Koneko Toujou, she is short in stature and has short white hair with two cat themed hair clips one being black and the other white, paired with amber like eyes that seemed uninterested in anything but her snacks, she is also known as Shirone later on. And a woman about the same height as Rias Gremory, only she has long black hair styled in a high ponytail tied with a orange ribbon, violet eyes, and a completely different aura, her name is Akeno Himejima.

Two things. First, the anime didn't do them justice, that's all I'll say about that. Second, I am so nervous cause Rias and Akeno are both high class, whether Akeno is officially I don't know. Not too mention both Koneko and Yuuto are probably Mid class. If things go bad I am screwed.

I clear my throat and speak up "Could you possibly stop staring at me like that. It feels like your looking into my soul." After saying that Rias stopped staring as intently and simply smiled.

"Welcome to the Occult research club. Or the ORC if you will. Now the reason I invited you here is for two reasons." I nodded showing I was listening and she continued. "First off, I'd like to know what you think of the supernatural" Her smile widened slightly.

'Shit. Well here we go, jumping into the deep end it is.' I clear my throat and respond "Well the idea has always interested me, but I've always just thought of them as legends and nothing more." It seemed my reply was what she was looking for if her widened smile was anything to go by.

'Okay, here we go.' I take a deep breath before replying "With all honesty. I'd say you were crazy, then ask for proof." She didn't seem the least bit insulted, nor annoyed by my reply. I swear I even saw amusement in her eyes.

"Oh? You mean like this~" She snapped her fingers and the sound of tearing fabric could be heard as all four of the people in the room had bat wings sprout from their backs and rip their shirts. Now here is where I can do one of three expressions: Awe; Fear; Or no reaction.

With all honesty I don't feel like faking an expression so I just didn't change my facial expression, which from the moment of walking in was a small smile. Now this got a reaction from her, as her smile faded just a little.

Seeing that expression falter slightly made me want to have a bit of fun so I started clapping "Great cosplay. Did you make them, or is there a store where I can buy some?" Now this made them all sweatdrop, which I could somehow see. I don't know.

After regaining her composure, Rias coughed lightly and responded "No, there are no stores that sell these types of wings. and no we didn't 'make' them ourselves. These are real." Her face looked somewhat prideful after saying that. Reason? No clue.

"Okay so... Those are real?" I got a nod. "You grew those from your back?" Another nod. "Does this lead back to the previous question?" Once more she nodded. "Yes that is correct. Let me introduce myself properly."

She stood and walked in front of her desk and put her hand over her chest "My name is Rias Gremory, heir to the devil house of Gremory in the underworld" Rias then motioned to Yuuto, Koneko, and Akeno. "This is Yuuto Kiba my knight. Koneko Toujou my rook. And Akeno Himejima my queen. And I am the king."

I nodded slowly at her introduction, and she continued "Have you ever played chess before?" I nodded and she continued "Well during the great war and the following civil war, the number of devils dwindled greatly. So we had what is known as evil pieces made so that we may reincarnate those of other races to devils, therefore increasing the number of devils once more."

I already knew all this but I wasn't about to tell her that. She then went on to explain the great war and devil civil war that came later. Through the whole thing I was nodding and making it seem like I was listening, when really I was listening to music until she was done.

"So the second reason I called you here." Now I was paying attention again, as I already knew what was coming. "I want you to become a part of my peerage. We can sense something special about you, we believe it to be a sacred gear. So will you accept?"

Now I'm not going to be a devil, not right now at least. I want to let her down gently- 'Why the flying fuck am I treating this like I was asked out? Just politely say no dumbass' I clear my throat once more and respond in the nicest tone I could muster. "I appreciate the offer Rias, but I'll have to decline. I want to stay human for a little longer, and this is a lot to take in." Her expression fell a little, but she nodded understandingly.

"That's alright. I agree that not knowing about the supernatural and suddenly being info dumped is a little much, but I hope you reconsider later. That's all I wanted to talk about. And feel free to come here anytime you want, as we are at fault for your introduction to this world." I nodded grateful and left quickly, not wanting to stay any longer then necessary.

--Pov change: none--

Inside the clubroom that Jack had just left. Rias was still standing in front of her desk before she put her wings away and sat back down behind it. Akeno came over with some tea for her king and asked curiously "I didn't quite expect you to let go that easily. I definitely wouldn't have~" She started giggling with a hand on her cheek.

Rias sighed and rubbed her forehead before speaking "I let him go for now, but he said he'd think about it. Until then, Koneko keep following him. If we could sense his sacred gear that means someone else could." Koneko nodded at Rias and stood up to follow Jack.

Rias then turned to Yuuto. "Yuuto you may go if you wish" Yuuto nodded and left after bowing. Leaving only Akeno and Rias. Akeno brought over a chess board and sat it down and set the pieces up.

"Do you believe he'll actually join you Rias?" Akeno was curious to her kings thoughts. "I don't know, but I hope he does accept. Not only would he be a valuable ally, but he's also in danger right now." Rias started their game of chess moving one of her knights.

"Are you going to persuade him?" Akeno moved one of her pawns. "Maybe later. I'll let it all sink in first" Rias moved one of her pawns, unlocking one of her bishops. "He didn't seem interested in our beauty, I wonder if we're losing charm?" Akeno said teasingly as she moved another pawn, unlocking her own bishop.

"Doubt it. He just doesn't seem very invested in beauty alone" Rias moved her bishop. "So that leaves money, power, magic, and training as our options?" Akeno moved another pawn. "Yes it does. We'll just have to wait until later before acting again" Rias moved her knight again. "Sona may try and take him you know" Akeno teased her king again while moving her own knight. Rias just hummed at that and moved her bishop out.
