Chapter 1 - I didn't choose the destination, but I'm enjoying the trip.

If life gives you lemons you can surely make lemonade, it could also be that life lets the juice flow onto your bleeding wounds just to mock you.

Cody Anderson sometimes thinks so when he wakes up once again from a dreamless sleep, no to be more correct his dream died a very long time ago on a very distant island that he would like to blow up just to see it in ashes and all the memories it holds.

Cackling darkly as he got out of bed, the man in his thirties scratched his three-day beard while reminiscing about the last few years of his life since the day he participated in Total Drama.

Having only been present for two seasons, Cody was not the most notable competitor in the series; no, even his page made by fans of the program contained nothing glorious about him except for a certain record in unfortunate accidents or embarrassing situations that he would like to erase in the same way as the Men in Black.

He presented himself as a womanizer while still a virgin, giving him the image of a pervert who thought of nothing but reaching third base. After that, he just sank deeper into the role of the goofy idiot chasing after a girl who barely saw him as a really annoying little brother. Oh, and let's not forget his very enriching encounter with a bear that ejected him from the show with no hope of return.

Very few people know this, but that's why he didn't participate in the second season; between his convalescence and rehabilitation, he really couldn't, but for the third season? No problem.

Except that's where his descent into hell began, oh sure they could have died on the plane given how Chris seems to like sending them to deadly dangerous places just to see them risk their lives, no it's rather in the department of the heart that our Codemeister took the most damage, first because Gwen ended up with Duncan which in his opinion is equivalent to taking a shotgun blast to the face.

Then there was Sierra, honestly this girl was certainly as crazy about Total Drama as she was about him, well in the end she wasn't as dangerous as the media thought, Cody even ended up becoming sincere friends with her, well there were times when she wanted something more with him because she loved him with all her crazy little heart but despite all the good will in the world Cody couldn't forget Total Drama World Tour and all the things she did.

In the end they parted on good terms, although sometimes he wonders what might have happened under different circumstances.

Finishing his shower with a sigh of contentment, he dries his shoulders, which have become a little broader after years of bodybuilding. Looking at his reflection in the mirror, he stares at his older face: a short mohawk haircut that brings out his blue eyes, a small beard that gives him a tough look, and a scar on his chin that resulted from a fight in a bar after someone tried to urinate on him.

This was not the face of a naive boy who thinks he will emerge victorious from a television game with a girl on his arm; no, it was the face of a man who had grown up to become a slightly darker person after taking countless hard knocks.

Smiling darkly, he finishes his morning routine while grumbling about his computer job; in absolute terms, it's not a bad job because nowadays computers occupy a really important place to the point that people like him are considered wise.

Except that he wanted to become a video game programmer, it was a Geek dream who sacrificed countless hours of sleep to finish Bloodborne, on that side nothing has really changed, his shelves are still full of old games that he collects because it's his thing.

Life also decided that no one would want to hire him for professional reasons: too young, poorly dressed, teeth too far apart.

Okay, maybe not the last one, but sometimes Cody thinks the universe doesn't like him very much.

Finally, there is some good in it.

Walking through the snow-covered streets, he puts on his headphones connected to an old music player, his thumb presses the old button letting the glorious music of DragonForce fill his eardrums, badly damaged by decades of listening to Heavy Metal.

It's surely strange for all those who knew him for loving jazz to see him now a fan of old metal bands. The reason for such a change? Well, Cody went through a phase that could be called depressing: no job, no girlfriend, no friends to spend Christmas with. In short, it was one of those days where just the idea of living through it made you want to scream without caring who was watching.

Instead, he got in his car with the desire to leave everything behind, and then, as he drove into the sunset on a deserted road, Cody heard one of the most liberating songs in the world.

DragonForce: Operation Ground and Pound

At the time he wanted to scream, cry, laugh, for everything he felt to take a form he could love, then his heart started beating hard, his head went blank, and he started singing until he broke his vocal cords, it was so good that he continued until he ran out of gas.

That night Cody fell in love with Heavy Metal.

He listened to many groups, he liked some, others were not his style, unsurprisingly DragonForce remains his favorite group to this day as evidenced by his album collection.

Thanks to this he managed to find the strength to move forward in life, there were some unforeseen events but in the end he held his head high in the face of adversity, it's not much but sometimes all it takes is a song to find the motivation to become a different man.

Taking a seat in his office chair, Cody removed his coat, exposing his well-built, sculpted physique. Despite the mockery from other men who, unlike him, looked as if they had been born with a six-pack, he wouldn't say it was hard to do sports, but rather to continue doing them when you're already in shape. Yes, that's his opinion.

As he begins his work, his mind slowly drifts to his former companions in misfortune who, like him, had the foolishness to participate in Total Drama. He hasn't stayed in touch with many of them, having mostly discussions with the members of his boy band, Trent, Owen, Justin, Harold. They did two tours across Canada before splitting up after Trent decided to pursue a solo career. No one was really sad because this group was nothing more than something they created to cope with losing the million dollars; yes, a collective effort to forget the pain.

Then there was Sierra, with whom he sometimes chatted over coffee. Anyone else would probably call him crazy for leaving a woman like her around, but no one knew her better than him. She's a passionate woman, so yes, sometimes she gets carried away, but that doesn't make her a bad person, quite the opposite.

In short, sometimes he would chat on the group created for all those who participated in the original production, but in absolute terms he didn't have much to say to the other competitors, not because he didn't like them, let's say rather that he wasn't as attached to them as to his friends, yes that's the only reason.

Then there are always those he doesn't like at all, Alejandro because he's a manipulative heartbreaker, Courtney for treating him barely better than a doormat, Duncan for petty but still valid reasons.

It...Gwen.

For a few seconds his fingers stop typing as he lets his head rest against the back of his seat, resting his face against his fist he looks at the screen on which the Total Drama group chat continues to tour despite the years, he looks at the messages from his former crush with a melancholy that deeply annoys him.

(It's better to suffer from having loved than to have never known love...what nonsense)  thinks the programmer in a more gloomy mood.

Does he still love her? No.

Does he think about her? Sometimes.

Will he ever speak to her?

What really annoyed him was that he was never sure of anything when he thought about her; at the same time, a long time ago he thought he'd found the woman of his dreams, except he acted like some kind of...

His pride doesn't even want to think back to all his attempts at flirting worthy of a psychopath stalking his next victim.

Even today he thinks of her with a tenderness that only exists for people one has sincerely loved, except that he does as usual after finishing his day.

He closes the screen while listening to Furry of the Storm.

T~T

"Home sweet homeeee..." he mutters, taking off his shoes after turning on the heating.

He could say it without being sarcastic: Cody loved his apartment, with its decor that mixes his love for action movies as well as posters of DragonForce and some object related to the group decorating his living room, in particular a frame with one of their greatest songs Through The Fire And Flames.

Yawning heavily, he collapses onto his sofa while praising the one who invented this wonderful piece of relaxation furniture, stretching his limbs until he hears a satisfying creak, Cody settles between his cushions while letting out a sigh of pleasure as he feels the warmth gently embrace him.

Strangely, his thoughts continued to drift over his life from the day he set foot in Camp Wawanakwa; he wouldn't say that day changed him much, but that's surely because he never really sought to win in the first place.

No, what motivates him to continue is the hope that a girl with blue hair will tell him that she loves him.

Today he knows that with his mature mindset he would undoubtedly be the winner.

"Yeah...I'll win it..." he mutters, feeling his consciousness drift into a dream.

T~T

The most interesting thing about dreamless nights is that the next morning you always have the impression of having barely closed your eyes, it's a sensation that greatly pleased Cody who slowly sat up letting the covers fall around his body as he watched with squinty eyes as the morning light filtered into his room.

...

Blinking stupidly for what seemed like an eternity, the brunette stared bewildered at a room he swore he had emptied a long time ago before leaving for university, empty pizza boxes piled into a perfectly wobbly tower, bags of candy surrounding a keyboard placed on a desk on which lay an assortment of sweets that would make a nutritionist vomit.

Yes, it was indeed his old room, except that he was absolutely certain he had never set foot in it again, even when he visited his parents, not that the room was bad, but that it reminded him of his long solitude with only his video games for company.

Putting aside his useless old memories, Cody notes with frightening calm that he has indeed returned to his parents' house, oh and a detail that is important.

Currently he is looking in a mirror at a very young Cody Anderson, well the only thing that helps him keep his cool is the certainty that he can only be in a dream or a nightmare, if Heather ever arrives singing Hakuna Matata then yes it is surely not reality.

Pinching his wrists so hard that he left a purple mark on his skin, he gritted his teeth trying to remember another trick to confirm that one is dreaming, picking up a game pack at random, he realized with horror that he could read it, whereas normally this is impossible in a dream, even a lucid one.

After that, Cody tried to find a logical explanation for what had happened to him, except that it's much more complicated to breathe calmly when you're traveling through time. That's also how he checked his calendar and saw that he had returned three weeks before participating in Total Drama. After realizing this, Cody tried to remain calm, but in the end, the only thing he could do was...

"Hahahahahahah! hhhhhhaaaahahahahahahahaha!"

Whether it was the ridiculousness of the situation or the irony of his wish just before falling asleep, Cody just wanted to laugh so hard he cried.

An hour of hysterical laughter later.

Sitting at the foot of his bed, Cody had his fill of madness once he realized he didn't have many options for what to do with his life now that he was in the past.

Most people would use their knowledge of the future to make a fortune by playing the lottery or betting on sports matches, but having never followed any of that during his life, Anderson dropped the idea; no, the only thing that could be useful to him in life was his knowledge of... Total Drama.

The challenges, the eliminations, the conspiracies.

Everything that has happened on the show since its inception, Cody knows every detail thanks to Sierra who has practically given her lessons on the subject over the years, after all it's one of the things that matters in her life so it's normal that she talks about it all the time.

Does he want to return to this television hell? Not really, but he can't simply withdraw his application; according to his mother, who came to see why he was laughing like a cartoon villain, the production called him to give him the good news.

He was one of the contestants in the first season of Total Drama.

(The die is cast anyway) thinks Cody, inspecting his body which seems to have retained the muscles cultivated in his previous life except that he hasn't regained his final height, leaving him with the silhouette of a young swimmer (Might as well make my wish and then let come what may)

Humming an old Stevie Wonder song, Anderson began rummaging through his wardrobe to find clothes more in line with his new tastes; after a few minutes he grumbled a little, finding nothing suitable, then his fingers began to rummage through his hair, which was thicker than his memories.

"I have three weeks to prepare," muttered the time traveler, slowly cracking his neck. "Might as well get started right away."

T~T

Hiking boots, cargo pants that can hold some useful tools, a black and blue checkered shirt, a black jacket over it to keep warm, and a mid-length mohawk and there he is, finally comfortable in his own young adult body, preparing to live through the hell of reality TV.

Well, his parents stared at him for a long time before asking if he was really their beloved child who only yesterday seemed so innocent; he reassured them, saying confidently that he was just looking for a new look to make a good impression during the show.

After this exhausting day, Cody went back to his room with a long, loud yawn; he still had a lot to think about, then he realized that with three weeks all to himself, he had every right to sleep.

T~T

(It's crazy how time flies) the time traveler thinks lazily, cracking his neck in a slow movement that makes the members of the technical team around him flinch, wondering how he can do that without flinching. (The good thing is that I was able to see where this body could go and, above all, revise my plans.)

In this kind of show, being a leader or competent makes you more visible and important, which is undoubtedly exciting, but it paints a target on your back because at the slightest misstep it's over for you. That's why Cody chose not to assume the role of leader; it's not worth it, and besides, giving orders isn't his thing at all.

In the distance he can already see the island on which Total Drama will take place for the very first time.

(It's funny how excited I was to come here the first time, now I just want to win the million and maybe act better towards others) He thinks, readjusting the grip on his backpack (Well, at least this time I'm not here to humiliate myself in front of anyone)

Arriving at the docks, Anderson shows nothing on the outside, but it's still astounding to see everyone so young or still full of hope regarding this show. Besides, it gave him the opportunity to see faces he thought he had forgotten, like Sadie and Katie, the two fake twins sharing a common {idiotic} mind, or some members of the Drama Brothers. He could go on for a long time, but that would give him the image of a shady guy.

If possible, he would like to avoid it.

As his foot touched the dock, the brunette felt the weight of their gazes on him. He could easily imagine their thoughts about him, such as how he was probably short or that his haircut was much cooler than Duncan's. {A man has the right to dream}, then his eyes fell on those of the girl he had loved during his youth, only to look away when he saw her next to Trent.

(Concentrate! This time you mustn't approach him like a madman!)

"Well, I'll be!" exclaims Chris McLean with a wide smile, pulling out a photo of Cody from season one. "You wouldn't happen to be Cody's twin brother, would you?"

"No, I just changed my look in the meantime," he replied simply and casually, also offering a smile and a raised hand towards the host, "Delighted to be here."

The two shook hands briefly but firmly before the young man went to join his fellow campers who gave him some curious looks; he wondered why everyone was looking at him like that when last time they had barely opened their mouths to say hello.

Deciding to put that aside, he finally snapped out of his thoughts when he saw a pair of muscular buttocks pass under his nose. Glancing down, he subtly raised his foot to avoid Eva's bag; the dull thud drew everyone's eyes to his raised foot.

"Hmm," hums the brunette, casting an impressed glance at the athletic woman. "Dumbbells?"

"Exactly"

"...I'm impressed, and also disappointed that I didn't bring my own. As a fellow sports enthusiast, would you be generous enough to let me use them?"

"...we'll see if you're truly worthy"

"THANKS"

Everyone just watched the exchange with raised eyebrows, having believed for a second that the Amazon was going to attack the punk, then Owen's shouts of joy ended the moment, leaving Cody with his thoughts on what he will do during today's challenges.

(Let's see...jumping off a cliff and then a little hot tub construction workshop, I won't have to make too much effort since we originally won but just to be sure I'll help them a little, then back to the shadows) thinks the Codemeister with a smile at the corner of his lips which turns into a slight laugh when he sees Gwen twirling her finger while raising her eyes to the sky in a sign of irony towards Owen who seems to want to be friends with everyone.

His laughter attracts the young woman's gaze, making him silence and whistle innocently on the other side. Cody's plans for the challenges are as meticulous as possible, but for relationships with the other campers, he really, really has no idea what to do except for the fixed idea that he must not approach the goth girl.

His thoughts were interrupted by the melodious sound of a voice he thought he would never hear again in his lifetime.

"Thank you Chris," said Courtney kindly, walking up to the candidate with the cutest smile Cody had ever seen. "You must be the other candidates, I'm happy to meet you!"

(...I have to protect that smile) Cody thought gravely, giving Duncan a nasty look (And to do that I'll have to get rid of him...well, one thing at a time...)

While the men and women were drooling over Justin's physique, the time traveler noticed some details on Chris's face: more smiling, fewer wrinkles, and he didn't have that sadistic glint in his eyes that seemed to shine brighter during the other seasons, which hardly surprised him. Total Drama transforms everyone in one way or another, even Cody didn't escape this rule.

Pour lui offrir un pouce en l'air signe universel qui veux dire { Bien jouée Mec!}

T~T

"HAAAAAAAAAAA !"

Running like a madman to reach the source of the scream, the dark-haired man with a mohawk joins the scene, then he looks with dismay at the blonde standing on a dresser trying in vain to flee the cockroach that runs around the girls' room, ignoring the whispers behind her. Cody squashes the creature then moves towards Lindsey to help her down.

"There, it's over," he assures her, gently patting her hand to comfort her; it works a little even though she continues to tremble.

"He wanted to eat my beautiful hair! I almost died!"

Unable to find the right words, Cody turned to the people behind him, trying to ask for help with his blue eyes, then Tyler stepped forward and that's surely when Cody saw the two campers fall in love at first sight.

~CAM~Gwen~

"So far, everything's been bad."

~CAM~Izzy~

"This is great! Everyone here seems so nice! Oh, and guess what?!" the redhead whispers to the camera. "I've only been here for an hour and I've already found a gorgeous guy! Oh, of course you won't tell anyone, right? Okay?!"

~CAM~Owen~

"It's amazing to be here!"

T~T

He didn't really react to the disgusted looks as he calmly ate his meal, not that it was excellent but having eaten the chef's cooking for two seasons his stomach had gotten used to it, and besides, between that and starving to death the choice was easy.

"How can you eat that stuff without batting an eye?" asks a voice he recognizes with his eyes closed, raising his blue irises towards Gwen, he swallows his mouthful and then calmly shrugs his shoulders.

"It's not bad," he admitted, ignoring the chef's wide-eyed stare.

"Seriously? I feel like it's alive," she said, staring at the red meat with a grimace.

"You know we're going to be here for a while, we need to build up our strength if we want to last," he retorted, finishing his meal, then he saw the goth girl sizing him up, which made him raise an eyebrow. "What?"

"Nothing, it's just that until now I thought you were the quiet type," she replied with a slight smile.

"I try to avoid being a chatterbox."

"Well, you're doing alright, even if it makes you a little grumpy."

"Hmm, my masculinity has taken a hit, I don't know if I'll recover."

"You're a big boy, aren't you?"

The two smiled kindly at each other before laughing; it was strange, even incredible, for Cody to share such a pleasant moment with his former crush, especially so soon. Maybe this time he wouldn't ruin everything?

As beautiful as this idea may be, Anderson knows that it is not good for him to be so close to the goth, sooner or later he will do something that will frighten her and drive her away from him, it is his destiny and he has no illusions.

"I don't know, but it'll probably be super easy," DJ said suddenly.

Cody really doesn't know how he stopped himself from laughing.

T~T

All the jaws around him are about to crash to the ground, all eyes are directed towards the void at the end of which lies the sea with some hungry shark leaping to the surface, flashing their sharp teeth.

"Oh *beep*" exclaims an alarmed DJ.

Laughing to himself, Cody simply stretches in his corner while Chris explains the rules of the challenge; he doesn't blame anyone for being hesitant, after all, even Bridgette the surfer from Hell's Carp isn't comfortable with the three hundred meters of height before touching the water.

Once again, slowly cracking his neck, he finally heard the strangest words since his return.

"Well, since the test is about showing courage, those who don't jump won't be able to participate in the second part of the test and will also have to wear this magnificent wet chicken headdress!" said their host cheerfully, showing off the yellow feathered cap. "Alright, Clever Rodent, it's your turn to start."

Hmm, but it was the Carp family who started in the first chronology.

(At the same time it's just a detail, anyway in my memory the only ones who didn't jump were Beth, Courtney and DJ, and the one who got eliminated was...) he quickly looks at Ezekiel who for his part seems as absent as in his memory (Hmm might as well speed things up...after all I can have a little fun)

"So who's going first?" Owen innocently asks, which draws all eyes of the Rodent team to him.

"Not me," said Beth, taking a step back.

"I refuse to get my hair wet on television," Heather said haughtily, which annoyed Gwen and Leshawna.

From there a small argument began between them about who should jump first, then the sound of footsteps mixed with bones creaking brought them out of there, holding his neck with one hand Cody smiled at the camera in front of him, then he sent an amused look towards the other competitors.

"See you downstairs!" he said, rolling his shoulders one last time and extending his arms. "Maximum effort!"

Then he let himself fall, he felt the wind whistling in his ears, his heart rolling and pounding like crazy as he spun around to finish his death dive into the safety circle.

~CAM~Gwen~

"You have to admit, this guy isn't afraid of anything."

~CAM~Izzy

"Wow, this guy is completely crazy!" exclaimed the redhead with an awkward smile. "I'm so glad I changed teams! I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun with him!"

After boarding the boat, the brunette took a deep breath while trying to calm the smile that stretched across his cheeks. He had forgotten the little pleasures of Total Drama, like the adrenaline rush from these kinds of challenges that filled him with a feeling of euphoria. Looking at the cliff from which he came, the young man felt his eyebrows rise a little higher as he saw all the other participants jump. Well, if throwing Heather counts, he won't complain. Unsurprisingly, Beth didn't jump, but she tried, which was quite different from what he remembered.

Leaning on the boat, Anderson watches the Hell's Carp jump in turn while he senses a presence beside him, turning his eyes to the side he stifles a yelp of surprise as he finds himself once again face to face with his ex-crush.

"Not bad your jump," said the young woman simply, whom he quickly looked at, not wanting to dwell too much on her curves.

Even though his brain is screaming at him to do it...

"Thank you... I had hoped to inspire others to jump," he said, running a hand over the back of his neck, a clear sign of his embarrassment at becoming the center of attention. "Perhaps I overdid it..."

"No, it was really cool," she assured him with a small smile, which left the brunette speechless. "Even Beth wanted to try the jump thanks to you, so it was well done."

He didn't really expect to receive compliments for his actions, no, he thought he would be ignored or even mocked for his little attempt to be the center of attention, but hearing Gwen give him such sweet words embarrasses him and he looks away while feeling the blood in his cheeks boil.

"Huh, you're welcome..." he replied, unaware of how the goth girl's smile became more amused by his reaction.

Neither of them notices the dark look sent from behind them.

T~T

Transporting the crates was easy with the wheelbarrows, but opening said crates with your teeth?

A little less.

"Don't forget, you must open the crates with your teeth only, hehehe, it was my idea!" said the host with a cheerful smile as the campers tried hard to follow the rules, even if it meant losing a tooth.

Annoyed by Chris's tone, the young time traveler grunted and then pulled on the rope with all his might, opening the crate in one go, surprising the others. He spat out the rope while collecting the coins at his disposal.

Then her ears picked up Heather's voice apologizing to Leshawna; it's almost funny to see the two women discussing things in a civilized way when they wanted to rip each other's eyes out just before; well, that's the magic of reality TV, plus Heather is really a good liar.

Finally, he chuckled a little as he listened to Geoff trying to give an encouraging speech to his teammates, who were completely lacking in enthusiasm right now, except for Cou-

Ah yes, his swollen eye.

Weighing the pros and cons of his next decision, Anderson finally stopped working, dusted his hands, and attracted Trent's curious gaze.

"What are you doing, man?" asks the brunette, watching Cody pull an allergy medication from his pocket.

"I won't be long..." mutters the young man, stepping purposefully towards Courtney, who is finishing leading her troops. She turns to him like everyone else, then grimaces because of her swollen eye. Without a word, he shows what he has come to bring, which confuses the brunette.

"Can I know what you're doing?" asks Courtney, who is nervous because of the delay her team is experiencing, and also because Katie and Sadie are not there yet.

"We're in competition, but that's no reason to leave you like this," replied the boy with the mohawk hairstyle.

"More-"

"Besides, I don't want to win like that," Cody finally said in a louder voice. "So you're free to refuse, but think of your team who need you as much as possible."

With these words he leaves, not without wondering what has taken hold of him to act with more audacity than before; he attributes it to his protective side towards this young woman who could turn into a tyrant thirsting for revenge because of Duncan, whom he will be happy to remove from the game once an idea comes to his mind.

~CAM~Courtey~

"In my family, everything is about success," said the young woman, her eyes returning to normal. "All my sisters have always managed to win on their own... but maybe that's not a good thing. Cody is right deep down, my team needs me and I have to prove to them that I'm here to win with them!"

After that everything unfolded more or less as in the old chronology, well if we forget the looks thrown at Anderson which he ignored, the women of the camp looked at him with approval, especially Courtney who gave him a little salute, her eye once again pretty to look at.

His team won the challenge, unsurprisingly given how the Carpe jacuzzi collapsed; once this was done, everyone gathered to eat in the refectory.

During the meal, Cody assessed his actions of the day as good; he did not put himself forward too much while making an effort to show others his usefulness without attracting the wrath of the chief manipulator named Heather.

"NON !"

Looking to his right, he witnesses the amusing spectacle of Lindsay protesting immediately after Tyler's elimination, then babbling about how much salt she needs in her dish.

"I'm giving them three days before they go out together," Cody muttered, which made Trent, sitting opposite him, chuckle a little.

"I'm betting on five, Owen on four, and Justin on one week," the guitarist said with a smile. "If you want to take part in the bets, go see Noah."

Clearly, his friends have found their own source of entertainment.

"I wonder how we lost this round; the other team has six girls."

Ah, it was at that moment that Ezkiel dug his own grave.
