While panting heavily, Damian realized the pain in his chest had subsided. In the past, that would have stunned him, but he had already come to understand that there was far too much about spirituality he knew nothing about. He would learn in time.
He felt Ruby slither up his body, but before he could react, she was already on top of him. She leaned down and bit into his neck hard, her teeth breaking through his skin and sinking into muscle, drawing thin streams of blood that trailed down his collarbone.
His body stiffened from the pain, yet he endured it. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and whispered, "I'm sorry," into her ear. He heard her sniff softly as she bit him twice more in different spots before finally going still.
"Weren't you looking forward to seeing me?" she asked in a low, sweet tone that was completely different from her usual harsh voice.
