Chapter 10 - The video data for Chapter 10 has exploded!

Shen Ruohe fanned her forehead with her hand and said, "I went for a job interview this afternoon, and then strolled around the park nearby."

"Isn't it the weekend? What company is still open? I advise you not to go to that kind of company; you'll probably be working like a dog every day."

Shen Ruohe put the food on the table and waved her hand, saying, "It wasn't an ordinary company. I went for an interview at a media company, and the conversation went well, so I filmed a video."

"A media company?" Han Bing raised an eyebrow. "Then don't get scammed. They might make you pay a penalty if you want to leave."

Speaking of this, Shen Ruohe chuckled and puffed out her chest proudly, saying, "Don't worry, I'm not that stupid. They said there's no penalty. I don't need to pay a penny. I can leave whenever I want!"

Han Bing frowned slightly. "The company you mentioned, is it called Jingxing Media? The one where a very young man interviewed you?"

Shen Ruohe's expression froze, surprised. "Huh? How did you know?"

"Because I went for an interview there today too. That company is a scam. Didn't you realize that?" Han Bing said speechlessly.

A scam, a scam?

Shen Ruohe's mind went blank for a moment. "No, really? I thought that guy was pretty nice..."

Han Bing rolled her eyes, not finding it strange that this girl was so naive.

She and Shen Ruohe had been sharing an apartment for a month. She liked Shen Ruohe; she had no bad habits, was diligent in cleaning and cooking, but was a bit naive.

One time, when they were out, they encountered a girl kneeling on the ground with a piece of paper on it, saying she'd been scammed and needed money for a train ticket home. There were two QR codes in front of her.

A normal person would know it was a scam.

But Shen Ruohe didn't understand. Feeling sorry for her, thinking she was just a migrant worker, she scanned fifty yuan and sent it.

Of course, Han Bing knew she couldn't blame her. After all, the girl was only eighteen. She hadn't had a phone until she was seventeen, spending all her time studying at school, and then spent a year working in an electronics factory. Her limited experience was understandable.

Now that she'd been fooled again, she recounted the details of her afternoon encounter with Chen Muzhi, then said, "Now you understand, right? That guy just took advantage of your naivety. What does someone so young know about operations?"

Listening to her articulate analysis, Shen Ruohe pouted, secretly glancing at Han Bing, and weakly said, "Youth doesn't seem to have much to do with experience... Some of my classmates dropped out of school after junior high, and they've been working for two or three years already. Besides, Douyin only became popular in the last two years..."

Han Bing sighed, too lazy to argue with her on this topic, and bluntly said, "Putting that aside, do you really think they'd help you with operations for free? As the old saying goes, the buyer is never as shrewd as the seller. They might be scheming something else."

"Maybe he's after you because you're pretty and wants to use this opportunity to seduce you. You'll end up losing both your money and your heart."

"Take my advice, run away before you sign the contract."

Shen Ruohe looked dejected upon hearing this. She wanted to argue, but her contact with Chen Muzhi was very limited, and she didn't know where to begin.

Frustrated, she tapped her head, as if hoping it would make her smarter.

But only she knew if it would work.

Seeing that she wasn't completely convinced the other party was a fraud, Han Bing resorted to her final trump card.

"Didn't you say he'd filmed a video for you? Look at the video stats."

Practical experience is the only true test of skill.

If the video only had a few dozen or a couple hundred likes, then it was a 100% sure sign the other party was a good-for-nothing.

After all, Shen Ruohe could get just as many likes on her own videos.

Speaking of which, Shen Ruohe suddenly remembered she hadn't watched the video yet.

Chen Muzhi had sent her the video over an hour ago, but because of limited mobile data, she hadn't watched it. Now that she was connected to the room's Wi-Fi, she could finally watch it.

Sitting next to Han Bing, she copied the link Chen Muzhi had sent, opened Douyin (TikTok), and the screen automatically redirected to a page.

As the screen changed, Shen Ruohe's face appeared on the screen.

At this moment, she was rhythmically swinging her fists to the music. What was striking was that she wasn't appearing without makeup; instead, a large-face filter was used, making her look somewhat comical.

However, her fair cheeks and delicate features still revealed a hint of beauty.

As the background music reached a certain beat, Shen Ruohe turned her head, revealing a flawless face.

The contrast before and after was truly striking.

But what was truly shocking was that the video already had ten thousand likes and five hundred comments.

"Holy crap!" Han Bing exclaimed in disbelief.

She seriously doubted she was hallucinating.

She grabbed her phone and clicked on the account's profile, wanting to check if the account had any basic authority.

If the account already had millions of followers, then it naturally had a large following, and this data wasn't surprising.

But this account's follower count: 4154

And the video's upload time: 2018-7-2 16:19

One hour, 10,000 likes, 4,000 followers...

Most importantly, this account only has this one video!

This is fucking a bug on Douyin!

She stubbornly scrolled down and refreshed the page, trying to fix the bug.

Whether the bug was fixed or not, she didn't know, but the follower count actually jumped from 4154 to 4219—65 followers in less than a minute!

Han Bing's expression became very complicated.

An inexplicable jealousy welled up inside her.

"Am I famous now?"

Just then, Shen Ruohe's surprised voice came from beside her.

Shen Ruohe leaned close to her, pointing at the phone and excitedly shaking her arm, his voice rising a few decibels, as if he'd been exonerated: "See! I told you he wasn't a scammer! Qingqing, I'm really famous!"

But people's joys and sorrows are not always shared; Han Bing only found it noisy.

She couldn't believe that a boy who still looked somewhat immature had actually managed to run Shen Ruohe's account successfully.

Luck? Skill?

It was definitely luck!

Everyone knows that newcomers have a bonus period, and this account was posting its first video, so it was receiving traffic support.

Newcomer benefits plus traffic support led to this result.

One success doesn't mean anything. If you can't handle the follow-up traffic, then it all has to end there.

Thinking of this, she calmed down a little and said, "The video's popularity has nothing to do with whether it's a scam or not. Maybe they deliberately spent a lot of money on advertising on this video to gain your trust, just to lure you in."

"Huh?" The excited Shen Ruohe was taken aback, a clear look of naivety in her eyes. "He went to such lengths to scam me?"

"Definitely. Otherwise, think about it, they worked so hard to make you famous, and then you turn around and sign a contract with someone else without even paying the breach of contract penalty. What's the point of them promoting you? It's 100% a conspiracy," Han Bing said confidently.

Shen Ruohe tilted her head, puzzled. "But why should I leave? They worked so hard to make me famous, so I should repay them. What kind of person would I be if I just left?"

"Other agencies offered you a million to poach you, would you leave?"

"No."

"Tch, anyone can talk the talk."

Han Bing muttered, feeling incredibly frustrated. She didn't say anything more, took her phone, and went back to her room.

Shen Ruohe watched her retreating figure, even more confused.

But she wasn't one to delve too deeply into things. She dusted herself off, stood up, and cheerfully took the groceries to the kitchen to cook.
