Chapter 45 - 45

Makura watched Tundra sleep for a while, smiling faintly before turning back to the floating television in front of her bed.

She lazily flipped through whatever happened to be playing.

Hours passed.

Eventually, Tundra stirred.

He slowly opened his eyes and stared up at the dreamy night sky above the cloud planet.

Rubbing his eyes, he kept looking at it for a long moment before suddenly realizing—

He was lying on a bed.

"What the…?"

Tundra slowly sat up.

The last thing he remembered was charging at Zaiak.

Then everything went black.

And now he was… here.

He sighed and looked around.

The fluffy ground immediately told him where he was.

The cloud planet.

His gaze shifted again, and this time he noticed Makura watching him from her own bed.

Tundra yawned.

"What happened to Zaiak?"

Makura tapped a finger against her chin thoughtfully before answering.

"You killed him."

She tilted her head slightly.

"You don't remember?"

Tundra shook his head.

Still, he sighed in relief.

"No… but that's reassuring."

Makura nodded.

"Yeah. It was really cool."

She said it like she was describing a movie.

"Though your head did get blown up, so that's probably why you don't remember."

Tundra froze.

"My head got… what?"

He slowly touched his face.

"How am I even alive?"

Makura shrugged.

"No idea."

"You turned into a star or something."

Tundra instinctively placed a hand on his chest.

He could feel it.

The faint hum of the star beating within him.

Then another question surfaced.

"How did he even have the power to blow my head off?"

Makura answered casually.

"He put everything he had into one attack."

"Basically an all-or-nothing move."

Tundra thought about that for a moment.

"Right… so if he missed, he'd be completely defenseless."

Makura nodded.

"Correct."

Then she pointed lazily toward the bed.

"Now stay there or don't."

"Just don't make a lot of noise."

Tundra nodded and laid back down.

He placed a hand on his head.

It throbbed painfully.

He didn't think his head had ever hurt this much before.

But it made sense.

It had literally been blown apart and rebuilt from nothing.

"…Thanks for helping," he said quietly.

Makura glanced back at him and yawned.

"Yeah, whatever."

"I helped because you helped me."

Tundra was slightly confused by what she meant, but he didn't press further.

There was no real reason to.

Instead, he simply watched as Makura slowly drifted off to sleep.

She always seemed tired.

But maybe that was simply her nature.

Tundra shook his head and looked back up at the sky.

There was something deeply relaxing about this planet.

Maybe it was magic.

Who was he kidding?

Of course it was magic.

Still…

He didn't mind.

He needed the rest.

And this time, the thought of resting was entirely his own.

With that final thought, Tundra drifted back to sleep.

__

About an hour later—

Two figures appeared on the cloud planet.

Beerus and Whis.

They had searched for Tundra around the planet where he fought Zaiak but found nothing. So Whis had checked his staff to locate him.

It had led them here.

Beerus looked around the fluffy world in confusion.

Now where in the hell had this planet been all the times he was lazy?

Sleeping here would have been incredible.

The entire place was soaked in calming magic.

Not that it affected him much.

He was far too powerful for that.

Still…

It would have been nice.

His gaze drifted toward Makura.

He frowned slightly.

He had allowed Tundra to fight the corrupted creatures—except the final one, which Whis had calculated to be beyond his ability.

And now that final creature was Makura.

Meanwhile the girl was casually sleeping in a bed while also putting Tundra to sleep.

It was one of the strangest sights he'd seen.

Well—

Aside from Tundra literally turning into a star.

Beerus thought about that for a moment.

Tundra came from a lineage that named themselves after the cold.

Yet for a brief moment…

He had become the hottest thing alive.

How ironic.

Beerus glanced at Whis once more before leaving.

There were still several revived planets that needed destroying.

Tundra's wish had brought back quite a few nuisances.

Though, to be fair…

It had also revived many strong planets that Buu had destroyed.

For that, Beerus supposed he would thank Tundra later.

__

Several hours later, Tundra woke again.

This time he felt fully rested.

The pain in his head was completely gone.

Rubbing his eyes, he looked over at Makura.

She was playing some kind of game, completely absorbed in it and not paying attention to him.

Tundra stood up from the bed.

Then he tried stepping onto the ground.

He immediately forgot that the surface wasn't solid.

His foot sank into the cotton.

And he fell.

Face-first.

Right onto Makura's side.

He could have stopped himself.

But that felt like too much effort.

Besides…

He was curious what Makura would do.

Makura glanced down at him in mild surprise.

Then she casually switched which arms were holding the game controller so she could keep playing comfortably.

"…Why?"

Her surprise faded quickly.

Trying to stay surprised while also focusing on the game was too much effort.

Tundra lazily floated back up.

"I forgot the ground wasn't solid," he said.

"So I fell."

"Then I decided it wasn't worth the effort to stop myself."

Makura glanced back at him and smiled faintly.

"That sounds pretty lazy."

She nodded approvingly.

"I like it."

Then she gestured vaguely toward space.

"But seriously, go back to your empire or whatever."

"You've been gone way too long."

Tundra nodded.

He had already realized the same thing.

"Very well."

"Then this is goodbye for now."

"Enjoy whatever you're doing."

Makura nodded while continuing to play.

"You too."

With that, Tundra launched into the sky.

He sped back toward his empire—

Retracing the path he had taken when he first left the engineering world.
