Chapter 19 - 19

Axiom arrived on Master Roshi's island in an instant, knocking on his door.

Roshi opened the door, surprised to see Axiom. Even though he hadn't met him personally, he had heard of Axiom from Krillin. "Hmm? Why are you here?"

"I heard that Goku trained under you. Could you train me as well?" Axiom asked politely.

Roshi stroked his beard, seeing an opportunity. "Hmm... I don't know... maybe if you gave me the newest Playboy magazine, I might consider it." That blasted turtle hadn't come in a while — who knew when he'd have the chance to get another magazine?

Axiom was confused; he had never heard of this magazine. "Well, where could I find a Playboy magazine?"

Roshi immediately lowered his head. He hadn't known his luck was so bad that another uncultured alien had come to be his student — first Goku, now Axiom. "Ah... no matter. Just fly me over to the mainland." He could at least get it himself.

Axiom nodded; that request was far easier. He turned around to give Roshi access to his back. Roshi quickly hopped on, fantasizing about what he might see.

Axiom looked slightly disgusted as Roshi's nosebleed dripped onto his shoulder. He flew to the mainland in a second and set Roshi down.

Axiom grabbed a leaf to wipe the blood off his shoulder and sat down, training his ki control as Roshi ran off.

__

An hour later, Roshi came back with a few new magazines in his hands, grinning ear to ear, before noticing Axiom's ki control training. He examined Axiom's level of control before clearing his throat to announce his presence.

Axiom stood up once he heard Roshi, looking at the magazines he had grabbed. "Is that all?"

Roshi nodded. "Yes, yes, this is all I wanted. I'll happily train you." Frankly speaking, Roshi knew all he could currently teach were the signature techniques of the Turtle School. Axiom didn't need to learn much more.

Axiom turned around, and Roshi happily hopped on, looking at his magazines as they flew.

__

Landing back on Roshi's island, Axiom set him down, and Roshi immediately ran to put the magazines away.

A few moments later, Roshi came back, this time empty-handed. "Alright, now be aware — I can only teach you techniques. You're too powerful for me to train physically, and you're already proficient enough in ki usage that I can't help much there either."

Axiom, who had his hopes up, immediately turned away, having no need for techniques. "Then I have come here for no reason. Goodbye."

Roshi wanted to repay him for carrying him to the mainland and back but didn't know what he could give him. So instead of calling out to him as he prepared to leave, Roshi simply remembered the favor for later and waved him off.

Axiom flew off, wondering how he could get stronger, before thinking that if he pushed himself to his limits, that might be enough — and he knew how to do that.

He looked over the world from that height for a minute before looking up and blasting off into space, intending to fly until he wore himself out.

One second — he exited the planet's orbit. It wasn't fast enough.

Two seconds — he reached Mars. Once again, it wasn't fast enough to wear him out, so he pushed himself faster than he ever had before.

Three seconds — he left the solar system, stopping briefly before having a sudden realization: if he could fly this fast, then where was the line between flying and forming a ki blast? He decided to push himself as much as he could, not for training, but to find out where that line truly was.

Six seconds — he had accelerated enough to reach a new star. He stopped and turned around, making sure not to lose the direction in which Earth was.

Resting in space, he came to the realization that the only thing separating flight from ki blasts was intent. All of a sudden, he became far more aware of how to truly control ki. It all lay in intent. Flight could push out ki on the level of ki blasts, but it would only result in increased speed. Ki blasts could release as little ki as possible, and they wouldn't push you — not unless you had the intent for them to do so.

Axiom had learned something significant about advanced ki control all by himself, simply because he wanted to push his limits.

He felt exhilarated, and with this excitement, he flew from the distant star back toward Earth — and beyond — his speed a blur as he tried to tire himself out.

__

A few minutes of maintaining that speed exhausted him, so he stopped and flew back to Earth, returning to Kukki's house to rest.
