Chapter 1 - Mingyuan and Lu Xuan

[Intertwined Fate Target Selected!]

[Lu Xuan: Reincarnated into the body of the Qin Dynasty's Thirteenth Prince after his Supreme Dao Bone and Supreme Spirit Root were transplanted into the Crown Prince. When the prince died, the wandering soul of a Dao Lord from a forgotten era occupied the body, birthing the current Lu Xuan.]

Mingyuan eyed the "unconscious" Thirteenth Prince who had just declared dead by the Imperial Physician.

As expected, this was the starting point of the novel Dao Lord Returns, Conquering the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands.

According to the Intertwined Fate System, at the current level, fate bestows on him gifts with a 2x multiplier from the target.

Without thinking, Mingyuan selected cultivation base feedback as the first entry.

For now, Mingyuan had no idea how to gain an additional feedback entry or to level up the system to increase the multiplier.

However, he wasn't in a rush.

After he made his choice, Lu Xuan's eyebrows twitched. His eyelashes fluttered rapidly, and slowly, he opened his eyes.

Mingyan noticed the fleeting bewilderment in those black eyes.

He smiled and said, "Oh? The Imperial Physician said you'd have died, my Prince. How terrifying… Luckily, it seems that he misdiagnosed your condition. Let me call him over for another check-up."

To give this great deity time to gather himself and get his act together, Mingyuan quickly left the room. Although he said he'd summon the physician, he wasn't in a hurry to do so.

Once Mingyuan left, Lu Xuan's taught nerves relaxed slightly.

"Thirteenth Prince? Is this my current identity?" Lu Xuan murmured, closed his eyes, and began reviewing this body's life.

With his current soul power, relying on a technique to calculate this body's karma with his fingers was easy.

Soon, this body's life played in his mind, and he grasped his situation.

"How tragic," he murmured. "Then again, my karma is too great. This body had to lose everything before my reincarnation, otherwise my soul would have wandered forever."

He reviewed his memories once again to confirm who could be trusted and who couldn't.

There was nothing such as familial love between siblings in the palace. Moreover, his current body was only nine years old.

He can't survive the palace drama on his own.

The image of a young man with a mysterious smile, shoulder-length black hair that faded into locks of deep blue.

He was always dressed in white, always by his side, and always looked after him.

Lu Xuan decided that Mingyuan was a trustworthy caretaker.

A while later, Mingyuan requested permission to enter the bedroom.

Lu Xuan approved.

"This… this…"

Yup, as expected, the physician couldn't believe his eyes, hands, or the most recent diagnosis.

Mingyuan decided to intervene with a faint smile. "Sometimes, the body can enter a false-death state after suffering from shock or trauma. Just a self-preservation mechanism."

The physician understood that Mingyuan was offering him a way out. Declaring the death of a prince falsely is a major crime and could result in serious consequences.

The physician nodded his head. "Indeed, it might have been so. I was hasty and made a careless decision. Please forgive me, Your Highness!"

"It's fine, I don't blame you," Lu Xuan was also quite the benevolent character, immediately forgiving past mistakes.

As a former Dao Lord, he didn't lack in righteousness and magnanimity.

His current priorities were to gather medical ingredients to re-cultivate a Dao Bone and a Spiritual Root.

He didn't need supreme grade ones, medium grade or high grade would do just fine.

Lu Xuan and the physician kept talking back and forth for a while. Soon, Lu Xuan requested a set of medicinal herbs after claiming he referred to an ancient recipe he read in a book.

Feeling guilty, the physician promised to collect the herbs on the list and help prepare the medicinal bath as soon as possible.

It would take two weeks at the latest to acquire the materials. Meanwhile, the physician advised Lu Xuan to recuperate in bed and refrain from taxing exercises.

Soon, the physician left with the list, leaving Mingyuan alone with Lu Xuan.

He sat on a chair by the bedside, as casually as could be, one leg over the other and hands clasped beneath his chin.

"That was one terrifying experience, Your Highness," Mingyuan spoke with feigned shock and fear. "Luckily, your fate took a turn for the better. Now, you can be a salted fish and live peacefully."

Lu Xuan's lips twitched. "Just a salted fish? That's the height of your ambition?"

"What else?" Mingyuan feigned confusion and tilted his head.

"The Crown Prince has an unparalleled Dao Bone and Spiritual Roots now. He will soon surpass His Majesty and become the new Qin Emperor. If you don't lie low and be a salted fish, you can only be a dead fish. That's too scary. Too terrifying."

Lu Xuan watched Mingyuan explaining animatedly, his body shivering and his blue eyes shimmering with mock terror.

His lips twitched again.

"So what?!" Lu Xuan snapped irritably. "This heaven and earth aren't limited to one or two Qin Dynasties! Let him have the throne, we can find our path elsewhere."

Mingyuan's eyes widened. "Are we going to become fugitives? Homeless runaways? That's even more terrifying… Sigh, it doesn't matter. Who told you to be my Boss? I'll bite the bullet and join your little rebellion…"

Lu Xuan laughed in amusement. "What rebellion? We'll just join a cultivation sect and see how it goes from there. I'll let you investigate and choose a suitable sect to join while I'm recuperating."

Mingyuan touched his chin. "Join a sect, build influence, gather power, and then return to overthrow the old dynasty… Right? What a plan!"

"Just go!" Lu Xuan barked, not bothering to play along with the teasing.

Mingyuan raised both hands in mock surrender. "Fine, fine, I was just joking around! Alright, my rise to immortality is in your hands, Your Highness!"

Mingyuan quickly left the room to investigate.

Lu Xuan's angry expression receded into a solemn one as he murmured, "I can't see through him at all… Now, that's what's truly terrifying. However, I can feel he doesn't harbor malicious intentions towards me."

Mingyuan left Lu Xuan's imperial residence and headed towards the Royal Palace's main gate, smiling all the while.

After he gained Lu Xuan's rudimentary trust, a new panel appeared on his status screen representing his intertwined fate with Lu Xuan.

[Intertwined Fate: Lu Xuan. (White)

First Entry: 2x Cultivation Base Feedback.]

A faint white halo tinted with a shade of red appeared when Lu Xuan's trust was established. If Mingyuan had to guess, then the Intertwined Fate was separated into seven levels at a minimum.

White, Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, and Purple.

As for whether the multiplier would increase to 4x or a new optional entry would appear after the fate upgrades from white to red?

Mingyuan didn't know, nor was he in a rush to find out.

Right now, he decided to nudge Lu Xuan in the direction of the main plot: joining the Three Mysteries Sect.

It was a second-tier force on the Ashveil Continent, but in fact, it was a branch of an Immortal Sect with a legitimate Immortal Lineage.
