Chapter 95: This was hard-won from Hidden Sand Village.

A clear, ringing voice shattered the heavy atmosphere.

Everyone turned toward the sound.

A black-haired boy wearing goggles and the Uchiha clan crest was raising his right hand.

It was none other than Uchiha Obito.

'Excellent! Obito, I've believed in you since you were little. Come up and demonstrate.'

Relieved that someone had finally answered, the teacher lavished praise regardless of who it was.

'Look, everyone—Obito's form is textbook perfect.'

'See how his eye, the Kunai tip, and the bull's-eye form one straight line—that's how you aim.'

'Perfect posture, Obito. Steady your hand and let it fly—now!'

At the command, Uchiha Obito hurled the Kunai.

Clank.

The blade struck the target.

Obito's cheer followed instantly.

'Yes! I hit it!'

But his was the only celebration on the field.

No—

there was one more.

'idiot,' someone muttered from the crowd.

The word snapped Obito out of his joy.

'Damn it, Kakashi, you're just jealous I nailed it, you petty—'

The only reply was another calm 'idiot.'

As Obito lunged to settle things, the teacher's voice cut in.

'All right, Obito, step down.'

'Huh?'

'Aren't you going to keep praising me?'

Teacher: '…'

[As if I could praise that!]

'Off you go.'

'O-okay…'

With Obito dismissed, the teacher exhaled.

'Class, although Obito's throw went slightly off at the end, his earlier form was exemplary.'

Obito: '??????'

'Sensei!'

'What is it, Obito?'

'I hit the target—why say I messed up?'

'idiot—you stuck the wrong target.'

'Ehhhhh?'

'Young Master Kakashi, you're back.'

'Yeah.'

'So, how was your first day?'

'Not bad.'

Kakashi walked through the Hatake compound, casually fielding greetings.

Thanks to his Mother, the clan had flourished.

It was also through her that they secured a partnership with the Land of Crafts.

Now the Hatake sold ninja tools in Konoha—standard Kunai and exploding tags, famed for quality and price.

They held twenty percent of the village's tool market.

Impressive for a clan of barely a dozen members.

His Mother had ordered every single Hatake to marry, but time was short; Kakashi was the oldest of the new generation.

'I'm home.'

'Welcome back—how was school?'

Hatake Sakumo poked his head from the kitchen.

Thanks to Miya Kiko's training and the clan's wealth—and because Sakumo had gained little fame in the Second War—he was spared the endless missions of canon.

Domestic duties fell to him; even the clan saw nothing odd in it.

If the lady handled affairs, why shouldn't the lord cook?

'Fine,' Kakashi said, then changed the subject.

'Where's Mother?'

'Kiko? She went to the shop to fetch your training resources.'

'Resources?'

'Yeah. She finally got hold of something every Hidden Sand Village kid receives at enrollment.'

'Everyone gets them?'

'So she says. They're regulated goods; she wrote the Kazekage personally and got special permission.'

'The Kazekage… Is he that easygoing?'

'Well, he tried to poach your brilliant dad back in the day—haha!'

Watching his pink-aproned father brag while holding a wok, Kakashi found the tale hard to swallow.

Half an hour later, the seal scroll hissed open in a puff of smoke.

Thirty bundled pouches lay before them.

'These are Kakashi's training supplies?'

Sakumo reached to inspect one.

Smack—his hand was swatted away.

'Don't touch! They're expensive. Ruin them and you'll answer to me.'

'Yes, dear. How do we use them?'

'One pouch after training—thirty days' worth. Take Kakashi out, run him ragged, then bring him back.'

'Now? But dinner's ready…'

'Hm?'

'Right away, dear.'

He grabbed the bemused Kakashi and dashed out.

Three hours later, Sakumo dragged the half-dead boy home.

'Will this do?'

'Perfect. Drop him in the tub; the medicine's ready.'

Sakumo stripped Kakashi and plopped him into the barrel.

Thirty seconds later, the boy yelped and tried to climb out.

Miya Kiko pinned him.

'Don't just stand there—hold him!'

An hour later, Kakashi climbed out refreshed.

'Amazing—he's already sturdier,' Sakumo said, squeezing the boy's arm.

'Of course. I wouldn't have gone to such lengths for junk.'

'Sigh—if we were in Hidden Sand Village, the teachers would handle this. Instead, I have to do everything myself.'

Mother's rant about Konoha left father and son exchanging awkward smiles.
