Chapter 26 - Chapter 26 Hospital

Georgie was being rescued, and a group of people waiting at the ICU door was not a solution, so Mike comforted Mary for a few moments before heading to the information desk.

If he remembered correctly, Georgie's father would pass away from heart disease when Sheldon was fifteen.

Mike wanted to check the other party's medical records to see if there was a way to remedy it. After all, the Cooper family had taken good care of him during this time.

Moreover, from a personal perspective, Mike also thought George was a very good person.

Upon arriving at the information desk, a young nurse was on duty.

After Mike explained his purpose, he easily obtained George's medical records from her.

Looking at the various values on the form, Mike could only initially tell that George's blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood lipids were all somewhat high. As for other issues, they were difficult for a non-professional to understand.

"Hello, excuse me, may I ask about the specific cause of illness on this medical record?" Mike could only seek help from the nurse behind the counter.

The nurse had already noticed Mike, this overly handsome young man. Hearing his question, she enthusiastically leaned over, picked up the medical record, studied it carefully, and said, "Mr. George's illness is an acquired heart disease. There are two inducing factors, look here..."

She deliberately moved a little closer, pointing to a large section of professional terms on the medical record, and explained, "One is caused by mental stress. Long-term high mental stress, anxiety, and irritability can increase the risk of heart disease.

The other may be caused by unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as high-fat, high-salt, and high-sugar food intake. In addition, lack of exercise, alcoholism, drug abuse, obesity, etc., can all induce metabolic imbalance and affect the normal functioning of blood vessels."

Considering George's lazy personality and his habit of heavy drinking, Mike quickly determined that the cause of his illness was most likely the second scenario.

Now that the cause was found, better control in the future should be helpful for his body.

"Thank you for your explanation." Mike took the medical record and was about to leave.

"Wait~" The nurse called out to Mike, slipped a small card into his hand, and said ambiguously, "This is my business card. You can come to me if you need anything in the future."

This nurse, with her uniform bonus, could indeed attract some people's interest. However, her figure and appearance were very ordinary, far inferior to Karen and Cady.

Mike could only express his apologies, gave a perfunctory nod, and quickly left.

When he returned to the ICU door, George's surgery had successfully concluded, and a doctor was explaining the situation to Mary.

George was out of danger; if he wished, he could be discharged tonight.

The Cooper family, upon receiving the good news, excitedly embraced each other.

"Where did you go just now?" Connie asked casually when she saw Mike appear.

Before Mike could answer, she gratefully hugged him, sharing her joy: "That's great, George is fine now."

Georgie and Missy also came over and hugged Mike like family.

"Alright, let's go in and see George..." Mary wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, composed herself, and suggested.

Just as the family was about to enter the ward to visit George, Missy looked around and suddenly asked, "Where's Sheldon?"

Mary and Connie then realized that they had been too worried about George earlier and hadn't paid attention to where Sheldon had gone.

As the two began to worry again, Mike said, "I know where Sheldon is. You go see George first, and I'll go get him now."

...

In the hospital chapel, a small figure stood before a brightly lit mural, praying devoutly.

Sheldon prayed that if his dad recovered this time, he would promise never to question the existence of God again.

Mike pushed open the chapel door and happened to see Sheldon "bathed" in holy light.

Mike was still unsure whether God existed, but he, a person with a Demon Body, felt no abnormality whatsoever upon entering the small chapel.

"Sheldon, what are you doing?" Mike asked.

"I'm praying, asking God to keep dad safe." Sheldon answered truthfully.

"Very good, your wish has come true." Mike smiled and told him the good news.

"That's great!" Sheldon cheered, then thanked God on the mural: "Thank you, God~"

Then, the little guy happily ran out of the chapel.

Mike had a mind to tell Sheldon that he should thank the doctor.

However, seeing the large attribute orb he had just obtained from the other party, Mike also smiled and muttered, "God bless~"

Back in the ward, the Cooper family was still immersed in joy until they saw the hospital's bill.

The high medical expenses had already exceeded the Cooper family's budget. If George continued to stay in the hospital for observation, it would only worsen the Cooper family's financial situation.

Although the Cooper family's quality of life was not low, this was all due to George's single income. Mary, as a housewife, had no additional income.

And even though George's salary was considerable, compared to the living expenses of a family of five, it was just enough to break even.

George held the bill, forced himself to cheer up, and said, "I feel like I'm better now, let's go home."

The three children in the ward could not understand the adults' troubles. Hearing George say he was fine, smiles reappeared on their faces.

Mary looked at her husband's pale face, still somewhat worried.

Seeing this, Connie, to make up for her guilt towards George, offered to pay a portion of his medical expenses.

Mike also immediately indicated that he had some savings and could contribute five thousand to support the Cooper family.

"Thank you, I'm really fine." George thanked the two and cheerfully stated, "With that money, it'd be better to buy me a few more bottles of beer."

"Dad will be fine, I have already made peace with God." Sheldon then proudly guaranteed.

Through George's incident, Sheldon believed that he had established a connection with God.

Of course, Sheldon's words were just for amusement in the eyes of adults.

Ultimately, at George's insistence, he left the hospital that night and returned to his cozy home.

The next day, as Mike continued to exercise in the yard.

He saw Sheldon, wearing a white outfit with Christian symbols, walking over.

"Mike, Meemaw, Mom is calling you for dinner." Sheldon stood at the door, calling out.

"Oh, who is this~" Connie walked out of the house and, upon seeing Sheldon's attire, exclaimed in surprise, "Grandma's Moonpie, why are you dressed like this?"

Sheldon was a little proud and stated seriously, "These clothes are my respect for God."

"Have you joined Christianity?" Connie found it amusing and asked with a smile.

"No, I believe in science." Sheldon explained seriously, "I'm dressed like this just to thank God for protecting dad."

This answer was very Sheldon, and very rational.

And Connie, on her part, wasn't really concerned about whether Sheldon truly believed in religion.

She only valued Sheldon as a family member, and no matter what decision he made, she supported it.
