Chapter 1 - A Second Chance?

??? POV

Was he dead? What the hell was happening? He had to be dreaming right? Yeah, he most definitly had to be.

He looked around at…wherever the fuck he was. It was just black, black and more black or in his honest opinion, nothing. No, he couldn't be dreaming, dreams weren't this…interactive? He was sure he could only think this clearly when he was...awake, conscious.

Whatever, unless he was lucid dreaming, which he was 100% sure he never did in his entire life, he was dead? This situation was awfully familiar. Damn web novels and fanfics, this has to be a joke. 'You've genuinely got to be licking my balls.' He thought, sure he had read web novels and fanfics about the main character dying and said situation he was in happening to them, but he really thought such a thing was impossible.

All those times he commented under those first chapters with funny gifs about 'Aw shit, here we go again' and now said shit was happening to him. Fuck, was he in a fanfic? Are other people reading about him right now? Is there an author out there quite literally writing whatever I'm thinking at this very moment?

A/N: You're goddamn right.

Just to be sure, he threw up a middle finger up in the air to any potential readers. "Yeah, fuck you, unemployed wankers." He scoffed out to the void before stopping, now he was just being cringe. So, he was dead? Closing his eyes, he thought back to his death and immediately groaned in annoyance and disbelief.

He had been walking to school and was on his phone as he walked across a street on his way there. Give him some damn credit, he had looked up and both ways before crossing the street like a good civilian. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to matter to fate or whatever force had decided to end his existence. Because would you look at that, and I shit you not, a truck came blasting down the street.

Yeah man fuck that red light am I right? Truck-kun, you piece of shit. Anyways, usual trope. He got demolished and lucky for him he had died instantly without feeling anything. What a drag. Hopefully this actually wasn't the afterlife or what was left after dead.

He wasn't religious much; sure, he could believe in a god or the big man himself but whenever he prayed for a copy of Han's Mazda RX-7 from Fast & Furious to appear in his garage nothing happened. So, oh well, what else could he do? So, this was it? Just nothing? A void? 'No way man just get rid of my consciousness. I'm not finna stay here for all of eternity.'

He was pretty sure he would die a second time purely off of boredom. Please transmigration, take him. There has to be something here, right? Where's his system? Where's the random god popping up outta nowhere to snap him into another universe? Wallowing in his thoughts, he blinked slowly when he caught something out of the corner of his eye, he noticed it easily compared to the utter nothingness in this void he was in.

"Oh man, we're going with this?" He sighed and sat up and then stood up? He was floating in a void how was he even moving? It in end, it actually didn't matter so without further ado, he walked up to the colossal roulette wheel thingy. Words floated cooly above it, 'World/UniverseSelection' so he was pretty sure this would allocate him to his next adventure? He swallowed thickly when he caught names like the infamous Warhammer 40k and DC (Comics not the shows or whatever) and even animes.

He knew fuck all about 40k but there were always multiple comments under fanfics saying that the 40k universe was a nightmare to the 10th power to be in and he wasn't trying his luck with that. And he caught the DC Comics name. He for sure didn't know any lore or any of the comics but he knew the sheer bullshit it had when it came to the power scaling. Superman, The Flash and other god-like beings that made their show counterparts look like utter frauds. Don't even get him started with The Presence.

...

"Fuck it we ball." He sighed, not really having a choice in the matter, all he could do was hope he didn't end up in any universe that would very much kill him. He let the wheel rip with a strong downwards tug. Despite its size, it felt light. As he watched it spin and slow down, it eventually landed on an anime he barely knew anything about, but it also gave him leg wobbling relief. 'Highschool DxD', he thought in disbelief.

He didn't know much about the borderline hentai anime. Sure, he knew of the basics, devils, angels, Rias, Issei, The Great Red, Ophis, etc. He knew nothing on the plot except Issei dying at the hands of Raynare, getting reincarnated by Rias, the peerage fighting Riser in a rating game and the squad fighting Kokabiel at some point later on. The rest was purely fanfiction knowledge that he didn't know was true or fanon. There was one thing that was undeniable, there were grade S baddies in this universe, and he was for sure cracking at some point, he was no pussy when it came to women alright?

If he knew all this was real when he died, then he would have watched five times the amount of anime he watched with even more intent on focusing on the lore and such. The only anime he was confident in knowing enough was the Naruto universe, but he wasn't there so. "Oh, hello there." He blinked at the roulette wheel that had disappeared and been replaced by a holographic screen with a white character-like model with different options for appearance. "No way, I can choose how I look? Score." He smirked; he was going to make the best of this. He was not going for a generic look like other mc's in fanfics went for. Come on, black, brown and even blond hair was getting boring for the hair unless you had a shade of golden that actually looked cool.

But nah, that was not him. He for some reason couldn't for the life of him figure out why he didn't remember what he looked like or even his name. That sucked, but did that matter right not? No.

What a drag.

With a shrug, he clicked on the hair color and hummed at the options. Sure, a crimson or blood red shade looked dope no doubt about that but who didn't want the hair color of aura farmers? With a nod, he chose white. Hair style? Wolf cut. Wavy. Somewhat disheveled. He was a fan of his hair reaching just past his neck. Remembering the character Seongji Yuk's messy style from the webtoon series, Lookism, he modeled it after him.

(A/N: It's also who I'm trying to make him look somewhat so if anyone's looking for an accurate visualization of him, there you go.)

For his eyes, he could go for an otherworldly blue-shade like that of Gojo's, but he chose an amethyst equivalent of the Six Eyes instead. For sure, who wouldn't want his eyes? He had to get the girls somehow. Age? Seventeen since these troupes usually landed the main character into the verse like a month or so before the plot started.

Height? Considering Highschool DxD was in Japan and was probably going to be in Kuoh High, he set it to 187cm or just over 6'1. As much as he wanted to add a bit more, it was pretty tall considering the average height for Japanese men was around 174cm or 5'7 and add on to the fact that most Japanese homes/apartments weren't made for tall people. He could still grow taller since he most of the characters like Issei were still young at the beginning of the show.

The physique option was at default, so he assumed he wasn't fit nor unfit just...average? So, he couldn't just make himself a perfect body, that didn't matter much, he loved working for his gains. Nevertheless, in the end he did not want his general look to be too one-sided, not too rugged like Hugh Jackman despite how good-looking the guy was, nor did he want too much of a Bishōnen look that it made him look like a femboy. Somewhat of a fusion between majestic and rugged? Yeah, that's quite the balance.

He finished some subtle stuff here and there, broad shoulders, porcelain-like skin tone blah blah blah. Quadruple checking everything was in order, he nodded satisfied with himself and clicked the 'Save' option, the screen vanishing silently.

With another sigh, he had lost count of how many times he had done so, he was prepared to simply disappear before suddenly, another roulette wheel in front of him like the first one with another set of words above it. 'Ability Selection'

"WOOOOO!!! YEAH BABY, THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!!!" He yelled out into the emptiness with his arms up, he knew whatever or whoever was doing this wasn't so cruel to drop him into another universe without his cheat. Now it was getting real, time for him to become op.
