Chapter 19 - Ranking Tournament (1)

"Let's deal with the situation at hand though," Klaus turned towards Nyra who didn't seem to understand what he meant.

"I'm assuming the ranking…tournament thing doesn't begin until the first day," she nodded, making Klaus's assumption correct.

"Until then, you need to stay safe," he turned towards Evaline who already seemed to understand what he wanted to say.

"You should stay with Evaline until then," in Klaus's mind, this was the easiest solution at hand that they could do currently.

"Can I?" Her soft voice echoed in the room as her ocean eyes looked at Evaline like a begging puppy.

Evaline just stood still, arms crossed, staring at the two of them.

However, she let out a sigh, "Fine," and then agreed to the plan.

'So that's settled,' Klaus was proud of himself for coming up with a great plan yet again, and this plan seemed foolproof, meaning they couldn't mess it up.

'What do we do now until then…' He looked around the room and saw absolutely nothing useful other than the two girls in front of him.

"We should know what kind of spells each of us can use—" Before he could even finish it, all three of the girls turned towards him, glaring intensely.

"Asking a mage to reveal all their spells is like a death wish for them…even among friends," they all said at the exact same time, almost like they were synchronised.

'How was I supposed to guess that?' His smile twitched as he looked at the three girls in front of him.

"My bad?" He apologised, hands held up like he was surrendering himself.

'At least they can't shoot me,' As soon as he thought of that, Jen smiled like a devil and sent an extremely tiny fireball against his forehead, which didn't even burn.

'…' Klaus's facial expression nearly shattered as a whole, however, he tried to keep it still as all three of the girls started laughing.

'Why does it even matter though, they yell the name out anyways…' He wanted to facepalm, but he just forgot about it instead.

'Then we just wait.' He fell back on Evaline's bed and looked at the flower-decorated ceiling.

The days passed by in the blink of an eye, doing absolutely nothing but strategising.

Klaus now understood Nyla's abilities to a degree without her revealing her spells.

'Such a pointless thing to gatekeep,' He sighed as he got up from his bed. Today was the day the ranking tournament began, so it was their first day.

"What does gatekeep mean exactly, master?" Jen floated on his shoulder, already lying down, using his collarbone as a pillow.

"It's like hiding it for no reason. In this situation, she could have revealed them, since in a way, we are helping her," he started getting dressed whilst Jen floated around the room. "Anyways, we'll rank first, right?"

Jen instantly nodded and sped up even more. "I have been training!"

Klaus shook his head. His face would reveal a faint smile if she saw it, however, she didn't.

"Let's get going then." As soon as they stepped out of the door, the hallway in the dorm was already filled with students.

"Each first year student, please do stay in front of your door," the Receptionist old man's scream came from forward, however, he couldn't see much due to the sheer amount of students in front of him.

Rowan came out on the door next to him and gulped audibly. He already seemed stressed and nervous that he had to compete.

'The weak stay weak, I guess,' he shrugged and paid attention to the old man who continued his speech.

"A spell will begin shortly. Everything will be explained once," Klaus couldn't hear anything anymore since everyone, including him, disappeared from the dorm. Nothing darkened or anything, he just stood in a field.

'That was quick,' he looked around and spotted multiple different terrains: a deserted area next to him, a mountainous area in front of him, and his own area…the field that seemed to just be endless grass as far as he could see.

Then a voice entered his ears, "The ranking tournament will begin. Students are free to form teams. You will be teleported out once eliminated. The uniform will protect your life, so do not worry." Klaus looked down at his uniform, which shone with runes for one quick second, then they disappeared.

'I see,' Jen also nodded on her shoulder, agreeing with his thoughts.

"Good luck. The tournament has begun!" Those were the final words.

But when Klaus looked around, he didn't see anyone. The terrain seemed huge, and for all he knew, Evaline and Nyra could be eliminated first this way.

He felt a little dizzy though, possibly because of the sudden teleportation.

'This is fucking with our plans,' he sighed, then grabbed Jen.

"Fly up high and look around. Try to find opponents or Evaline and Nyra," Jen instantly flew up as soon as Klaus finished his sentence, but he didn't hesitate either. He started walking down into a deeper part of the field terrain he was in.

'With my current spells, this is the best terrain for me,' he had a flame control spell, a lightning one, and a wind one. However, he couldn't conjure a flame himself…he could only control natural flames or flames conjured by other mages.

'But I have Jen,' he chuckled. Jen was like a pocket fire, and once she used hers, he could use his, so it was a great workaround.

"Master down!" He heard a yell coming from above him, and he instantly ducked to the ground.

A gigantic boulder would have crushed his head if he hadn't. It flew just above him by an inch and exploded once it hit the ground, pieces of debris scattered everywhere, even hitting Klaus in the cheek, leaving a small cut on his perfect face.

'Damn, thanks,' he did a thumbs up and rolled up onto the ground again. Looking behind him, he saw a dude laughing whilst starting to conjure a stone spear.

He seemed to be covered in stone armour, using his spell.

His bald head reflected the sunlight onto Klaus's eyes, so he couldn't see much of him.

'End him,' those were Klaus's final words.

"Burning Flame," after she said that, all Klaus saw was his opponent going up in flames as a ginormous fire erupted out of nowhere.

'Good job. Keep looking around,' as the flames calmed down, the kid disappeared into nothing, getting teleported due to the elimination process.
