Once the exterior was coated, Ewan turned his attention to the aromatics. He took the bundle of Rosemary he had retrieved earlier, bruising the leaves between his palms to release their essential oils. The resinous, pine-like scent exploded into the air, fresh and clean. He stuffed the herb violently into the cavity of the rabbit, following it with several slices of smashed ginger. The combination was strategic, the strong, woodsy fragrance of the herbs and the sharp, zesty heat of the ginger would expand during the cooking process, attacking and neutralizing the inherent gamey odor that wild animals often possessed, replacing it with a complex, botanical perfume.
