Chapter 6 - Damn Paperwork

Riento licked his lips with delight, finishing the food Emily had spoonfed him, his emotional state was still tinged with embarrassement.

It's tasty, why did Emily have to spoon-feed me though? Riento wondered, as Emily soon left the room with the tray.

With obvious difficulty, Riento stood up. And wobbled over to the window, staring down at the bustling city below filled with radiance and happiness.

He grabbed the desk for stability and support.

He turned his head upwards and looked at the two mountains, and the lake beside it.

The first mountain's name, the one nearest to the lake was Trivulga Mountain. Trivulga Mountain... If I remember correctly, Riento went there as a child and found a sword stuck in stone. Heh, like Excalibur huh? Well, by now it might be gone. But it won't hurt to check it out later.

Riento thought to himself, before turning over to the second mountain. It was named Weliorn Mountain. Weliorn Mountain, if I remember correctly in riento's memories, it's a hotspot for monsters and beasts alike. And that lake...

Riento's gaze swept past Trivulga Mountain, and onto the large lake. The Holy Kingdom's Second Capital's Grand Lake. Senturion's Lake. Senturion's Lake... It was name after the first saint wasn't it?. I wonder what secrets do those depths hide?.

Riento asked himself, before hearing the doorknob wobble. His head turned instinctively at the noise, as Emily entered the room, greeting Riento.

"Saint, sightseeing I see?." She smiled, initiating small talk.

"Yes, it's very extravagant." Riento responded immediately, putting his acting skills to use.

Emily chuckled, smiling warmly as she responded. "I remember you always used to look out this window to see how beautiful this world is."

Really?. Riento inwardly asked, as that wasn't part of the fragmented memories he got.

"Yes, even now I'm still awe-struck by its beauty." Riento spoke eloquently, just as how the original saint used to speak in his memories. A faint smile tugged at his lips, pulling them upwards.

The moment lasted for a few seconds, as Emily said right after. "I'm also awe-struck by it."

"Emily, what do you need me for?." Riento tilted his head as he asked Emily, confused why she had come back.

"Oh right, I came here for that." Emily had a moment of realization, and remembered what she had come here for as she quickly added. "You see, you have paperwork waiting for you...

"I didn't want you to do this since you are injured, but... I don't know how to do paperwork..." Emily looked down, she must have really been looking forward to it.

P-Paperwork? Are you serious? Even here I have to do them? Riento Lamented at the fact he still has to do paperwork here.

"Ah..." He let out a gasp, closing his mouth shut soon after.

"Right." Riento added up onto his gasp. "It's quite fine, Emily.

"I still have the ability to do it, after all. My injury doesn't prevent me from using my arms." Riento's practiced smiled tugged at his lips, forcing himself to walk over to Emily with smoothness.

He patted her hair, ruffling it. Emily visibly reacted when Riento ruffled her hair. "So do not worry and fear for my well-being, Emily."

Riento turned away, and walked out the door, leaving Emily surprised.

Right after Riento walked out, he sighed. His mood visibly dropping. Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork... I hate paperwork! Riento cursed the word in his mind.

Forcing himself to walk, greeting everyone he passes by, eventually he reached the bottom, the first floor. His legs shaking.

It's only been 3 weeks since my transmigration, and I didn't even get to experience the 3 weeks... Riento complained in his thoughts.

Once again moving his limbs by force into his office, his legs wobbling and trembling. closing the door behind him.

He strided over and sat into his chair, staring at the stacks of paperwork. This wasn't here before. Oh right, this must be 3 weeks worth of paperwork... Riento definitely didn't look forward to doing this, his head ached just thinking about doing this.

He grumbled, beginning to do it.

———

Time passed, it was now about 6:45pm in the evening.

All the paperwork were finally done, neatly stack on eachother depending on it's topic, Riento breathed a sigh of relief before complaining in his mind. I just woke up, and I spent most of my time doing this useless paperwork.

Riento eased into the seat, finding himself sleepy. All he wanted to do was sleep, but he still had something else to do.

With a sigh, he reluctantly stood up. Wobbling over to the door, turning it's knob.

Walking out, he closed the door behind him. Looking around and greeted the familiar servants near him. He strided over to the stairs, and with a reluctant push of his mental state, he began climbing.

He reached the top, legs trembling. I hate stairs, I hate stairs. He repeated his newly found hate in his mind.

He greeted the second batch of servants he saw, and pushed himself towards riento's room.

With a gentle push, he opened the door. Slamming it closed behind him. Forcing himself, he walked to the middle of the room with a grunt.

Sitting down, legs crossed. He closed his eyes.

Time to fix my core.

———

The light of morning illuminated the room through the curtains, causing Riento to stir awake by the light hitting his face.

"Ngh..." Riento grunted, slowly sitting straight up, yawning.

Morning already? Did I fall asleep without knowing?

Letting out a sigh, Riento stood up. Stretching his body.

It's been a month and two weeks since my transmigration here... Time moves very fast, heh. My holy core and mana core are going to get repaired today! That means I can now accumulate mana and holy power! I can finally start my journey to becoming the best of this world, I can't wait! Riento happily smiled, unable to contain his excitement at the fact he was going to be able to now accumulate mana.

His body trembled with excitement he couldn't hold, a smile tugged at his lips curling them upwards.

Walking over to the morning, Riento stared at the reflection in the mirror. His hair had grown out, Now going past his shoulders. Weird, my hair grew faster than what's normal. Or is it that normal here, or a condition Riento had? Riento silently speculated.

After that, Riento prepared a bath for himself. Not ordering the servants because he didn't feel the need to, Riento let out a yawn. Before washing himself up.

Riento wrapped the towel around his waist, making sure it was secure first. Then he walked out the door of the bathroom.

Reaching for a rubber band he placed on the table nearby, he started tying up his hair into a low ponytail, so it wouldn't be in the way. He then dressed up into a formal outfit.

A white formal shirt, white trousers, and some other accessories. The original riento always dressed up like this in the memories he got.

Oh right, thankfully my injury now also healed. I never want to go through that pain ever again. Riento wished.

A smile subconsciously tinged at his lips, he turned to the mirror once more. Checking everything to make sure he looks alright...

Which he infact did. He looked way more handsome with longer hair!.

A tinge of jealousy for this Body's handsome appeared before quickly dying down, as Riento remember this was his body now.

That book told me it would take 5 days to fix my core... But why did it take me 3 weeks?! Or did it mean 5 days straight of work? Riento sighed, his posture visibly dipped.

Noticing this, he quickly fixed it.

Right... I now have to continue training. Forcing himself, Riento walked out his room.

For the entire morning, Riento busied himself to the brim. Training with sir Robert, reading at the library. And doing paperwork.

His body trembled, quivering with each movement of his hand, with each signature written. A dull aching pain resounding throughout his body.

His hand moved, signing the last paper, he quickly stacked it with the others. My afternoon and evening are free now! I can finally start it again, with fixing them. I can accumulate mana! I can be a wizard—on second thought, how do I cast magic in this world? Do I need incantations? Do I need spells and magic circles?.

Riento hypothesized, as his mood went up.

Without wasting a second, he quickly went back to his room and greeted every servant he passed by with a warm smile.

Though, he could not stop himself from staggering every now and then on his journey up. But it could not stop his excitement to finally able to learn magic!

His ruined core was after all just an obstacle to overcome, not an uncrossable river.

His lips trembled with excitement and joy, even the servants could feel happiness radiating off him.

He turned the door knob of his room, Riento couldn't hold himself back anymore. And let out a wide smile.

The door closed behind Riento, as he quickly went to the middle of the room and sat down cross-legged. Putting his hands together, closing his eyes.

As he began to visualize holy core inside his head, and imagining bringing in excess holy power into his body to slowly repair the last piece of the holy core.

A warm feeling began to engulf riento's body, ridding him of the pain from the training earlier. Veins begin to bulge, showing signs of holy power entering his body, as they glow yellowish bright.

A vague glow surrounded Riento. As a subtle amount of holy power began to surge across his body like raging waves, veins bulging whenever the holy power passed.

It slowly gathered around the holy core, moving to the last hole, as it began to finally fix itself.

---

3 hours passed, sweat dripped down his body like rain.

His body convulsed with excess mana and holy energy. Both his cores were fixed! Veins bulging with an ethereal glow, somewhat strengthening his body. His muscles were somehow even more defined, Even through his clothes.

Yes! Finally, I can finally get stronger! I've been waiting until I can accumulate my mana and holy energy! Riento instinctively let out a toothy grin, unable to contain his excitement.

His eyes opened, hair somewhat falling down on his smooth skin. His tied up hair flowing gracefully, face illuminated with the afternoon glow.

The sun was setting.

The setting sun is always so beautiful a smile tinged at riento's lips, curling them upwards. complimenting and realizing nature's true beauty.

His hands shot out, as he slowly pushed himself up to his feet.

He stretched his body, muscles straining against fabric. He let down his arms, shoulder loosening. The untold tension that was always bothering him was gone, like his body had undergoed reconstruction in the inside!

It was the benefit of mana and the holy.

He breathed out a sigh of relief, a moment of peace washed over him.

Then—

BOOM!

Unfiltered killing intent shot through the air, making every hair on riento's body stand.

Everything suddenly became clear, the breathing of a person, the way his body moved. The way the dagger reverberated through air and piercing it, as it targeted his back.

He instinctively took a step back, turning his body. Eyes landing on the dagger, Without thinking he grabbed the blade.

No smell, no liquid, none! No poison!

The thought flashed through his mind in an instant.

Using poison here would give off a scent.

Anyone trained could notice it. An assassin wouldn't risk ruining the stealth of the attack.

Unless they were stupid.

And this one clearly wasn't.

The blade dig through his palm, as pain convulsed through his body like lightning. Blood dripping out his wound and flowing down the metal blade.

"Ghh—!"

His veins bulging with the pain, he held back his cry. Jaw clenched, sweat dripping down his face.

What's this?! An assassination attempt?! Damn it! Having an aura core would really be useful in this situation! Riento's eyes landed on the assassin.

Rough face, neatly combed black hair, slit eyes with pupils that resemble the void, he looked to be of lervice descent. He was covered by a black robe. His left eye had a bunch of scars that formed a cross. Those pitch black eyes stared back.

An assassin from death's cross?! The thought formed, making Riento widen his eyes even more, he didn't expect this.
