I woke up alone in our bed, and for a moment I forgot where I was. Then everything came rushing back. Urdon is carrying me home. Him staying to watch me sleep. The brief moment of hope that maybe we could fix things.
I sat up and looked around. The room was empty. No sign of Urdon anywhere. But there was a note on the nightstand written in his messy handwriting.
I picked it up and read it. "Went to talk to Kyran about what you said. Stay inside today. I will come find you when I am done. We need to talk. U."
A tiny spark of hope lit in my chest. He was talking to Kyran about the curse. That meant he was finally listening. Finally taking my warnings seriously instead of dismissing them as paranoia.
"Maybe there is still a chance," I whispered to myself.
I got out of bed and walked to the window. The sun was up, and the pack grounds looked normal and peaceful. Wolves were going about their morning routines. Nothing seemed wrong or dangerous.
