The notice board outside the main hall was crowded by lunchtime .
" Study trip Confirmed! " someone shouted .
"Three days !" Another voice added.
The buzz spread fast.
Christopher stood back, hands in his pockets, watching the excitement without joining it.
Evan was already planning Playlist.
Leo pretending not to care --but stayed close ,listening to every word Christopher said.
Zia arrived with her friends, Sofee right beside her.
Her eyes moved instinctively through the crowd until they found him.
Christopher.
Their gazes met for half a second.
Not long enough to mean something.
Not short enough to mean nothing.
Sofee noticed.
She always did.
"So ," Sofee said casually, turned to Christopher.
"You going on the trip ,right ?"
"Probably, " he replied. "If my dad says yes."
She smiled, satisfied. "Good. It'll be fun."
Zia stayed quiet, pretending to read the notice .her heart was beating faster than she liked to admit.
Across the corridor, Jason watched the scene with mild interest. Senior students weren't required to go on the trip---but his presence still carried weight.
Later ,when Zia met him near the stairs, Jason frowned slightly .
"You've been distracted lately,"he said.
"School pressure, "Zia answered quickly.
Jason studied her face ,then nodded.
"Come by my class later ,I'll walk you home."
It wasn't a question.
That evening, Christopher's house was unusually tense .
His father sat in the living room, glasses on,reading through official documents.
Christopher stood nearby ,waiting.
"The trip," His father said without looking up,
"Is it academic?"
"Yes ," Christopher replied "mostly?"
A pause,
"Fine ," his father said ,"but keep your phone on. And Don't waste time."
Christopher nodded.
Approval had never sounded warmer than this.
Upstairs, one of his step-sisters peeked into his room .
"You're going away?"
"For a few days ,"he said.
She smiled."Bring chocolate. "
He almost smiled back.
At school the next day .the atmosphere had shifted.
Sofee found excuses to sit near Christopher. Too near.
"Can you explain this ?" She asked, leaning in with her notebook.
Christopher moved slightly--polite,not uncomfortable just unaware.
Zia noticed the distance change before she understood why it bothered her.
Leo noticed too.
"You don't see it ,do you? Leo muttered under his breath, watching Sofee laugh at something Christopher said.
Christopher frowned. "See what ?"
"Nothing, "Leo replied quickly. Too quickly.
That afternoon, Zia sat alone in the library. Books open ,mind elsewhere.
Christopher walked in,stopped when he saw her for a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then he pulled out a chair across from her and sat down.
No reason.
No words.
Just presence.
They studied in silence .
Pages turned pen moved.
And somehow, it felt easier than talking.
Outside the library window, Jason passed by with his friends---and saw them
He didn't stop.
But something darkened in his expression.
Some lines were shifting now .
Quietly.
Irreversible.
And none of them were ready for what would happen once those lines were crossed.
