Chapter 3 - Chapter three

Chapter three the Luna they tried to kill

Xavier's POV

The moment I set my eyes on her, I knew.

Not the I think she's pretty kind of knowing.

Not the she looks familiar kind either.

This was way deeper.

The kind of knowing that settles into your bones like it's always been there.

She was the one.

The one fate and destiny assigned me to watch over.

The one fate had tied to my existence.

The one I was meant to protect, guide, and according to the visions that haunted my sleep, also destroy.

I stood a few steps away, watching her take in the academy gates with wide, curious eyes. Evermore Academy loomed behind her, ancient stone walls carved with runes that glowed faintly under the sun. Most newcomers felt fear standing here.

She looked amazed.

I sighed quietly and walked up to her, schooling my expression into something neutral.

"Hi," I said, forcing a smile that felt foreign on my face.

She turned toward me immediately, her lips curling into a bright smile that hit harder than I expected. "Hi." She extended her hand confidently. "I'm...."

"Trisha," I cut in.

Her brows lifted. "Oh really?" She laughed lightly. "So how did you know?"

She paused, then her eyes sparkled mischievously. "Actually, never mind. How could I forget? You're the guy I kept seeing in my dreams."

She laughed like it was nothing. Like destiny casually colliding with reality was normal.

I turned away sharply and started walking. "You talk too much, can you just be quiet and move?"

Her steps slowed behind me. "Sorry," she said, still smiling, though I could hear restraint now. "I didn't mean to annoy you."

"I said quiet," I snapped, harsher than intended.

Silence followed.

I didn't turn back, but I felt it, the way my words hit her. The sudden silence in the air. She walked behind me without another sound, her earlier excitement gone.

Guilt tugged at my chest.

We walked in silence until we reached Principal Greg's office. I knocked once before pushing the door open.

"Principal Greg has been waiting for you," I said quietly to Trisha. "Behave."

She nodded.

"Good day, Principal Greg," I greeted.

"Good day, Xavier," he replied, adjusting his glasses and studying Trisha with unmistakable interest.

I pulled out a chair and sat. "Well," I said casually, "I brought you the surprise you've been waiting for all these years."

Trisha remained standing.

"Come sit," I told her.

She frowned slightly. "The principal hasn't given permission."

I smiled to myself, rubbing the back of my neck. She's going to be trouble, I thought.

"You may sit, my dear," Principal Greg said warmly.

"Thank you, sir," she replied, bowing slightly before sitting beside me.

I leaned closer and whispered, "We both know the chaos you caused among the humans."

She said nothing, just smiled.

Principal Greg cleared his throat. "Welcome to Evermore Academy, Trisha. This school has awaited your return for many years."

Her cheeks flushed pink, and she looked down shyly.

"I believe that will be all for now," he continued. "Xavier, take her to Diva Hall."

"What?" I blurted, standing. "Diva Hall?"

"Yes," he said calmly, flipping through files. "Do you have a problem?"

"No, sir," I replied quickly. "None at all."

But my mind was racing.

Diva Hall wasn't just any dorm.

It was her mother's hall.

Principal Greg knew that.

As we walked out, Trisha slowed, admiring the academy's ancient structures. Her fingers brushed the stone walls like she could feel their history.

I couldn't stop thinking.

Why send her there?

Why reopen old wounds?

Maybe I wasn't as important as I thought. Maybe I was just a pawn, another piece on Principal Greg's chessboard.

"Xavier," Trisha said suddenly.

I snapped out of my thoughts.

"You're bleeding from your eyes."

My heart skipped.

I wiped beneath my eyes quickly, my fingers stained red. "It's nothing," I said. "That's Diva Hall." I pointed ahead. "Be nice to your roommate."

I turned to leave.

Then the world shattered.

---------------

The Vision

Blood.

So much blood.

It coated my hands, warm and sticky. My breathing was heavy, feral. Trisha stood before me looking disheveled, terrified, dirt streaking her face.

"Xavier, please," she cried. "Go back. Don't touch me."

But my feet kept moving.

Closer.

Blood dripped from my arms, my clothes soaked in blood. Her screams echoed, mixing with the pounding of my heart.

Then....

I gasped and stumbled back into reality.

"Are you okay?" Trisha asked, her voice trembling.

"Yes," I lied, backing away. "Just go."

And then I ran.

How could fate be this cruel?

How could I be assigned as Trisha's guardian angel and also be destined to kill her?

The one life I was meant to protect, was the same one I was meant to take.

Nothing about it made sense.

And the worst part?

When she smiled at me, when she looked at me, It felt like my heart was already choosing her.

Even if destiny demanded her blood.

------------------------------

"Xavier are you okay?"

Her voice cut through my thoughts.

I blinked and turned, only to find Kiara standing in front of me, her brows drawn together in concern. She had been calling my name apparently for a while.

"Are you okay, Xavier?" she asked again, studying my face closely.

"Yes," I said, nodding, though even I didn't believe the lie.

She shook her head slowly. "No. You don't look like yourself. You've been talking to yourself ever since I got here."

My jaw tightened.

"Or…." she tilted her head, lowering her voice, "Is this about Queen Sapphire's daughter?"

My heart skipped.

"Shhhuuuu," I hissed, grabbing her arm and glancing around to be sure no one was listening. "Don't say that out loud."

She raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

"Because Trisha doesn't know," I said quietly, forcing my voice to stay calm even though my chest felt tight.

Kiara stared at me for a moment then laughed.

"Oh, Xavier," she said, shaking her head. "This is Evermore Academy, a school built for outcasts and secrets. No truth ever stays hidden here."

Her smile faded slightly. "Every secret always finds its way to the surface."

I looked away, my thoughts drifting back to Trisha's smile, to her fear in my vision, to the blood on my hands.

"Just get it out of your head," Kiara continued gently. "You're needed tonight. The Secret Luna Society will be waiting for you at our usual spot."

Before I could respond, she turned and dashed off down the corridor, her boots echoing against the floor.

I stood there long after she was gone.

Slowly, I raised my hands and covered my face, dragging in a shaky breath.

This wasn't what I signed up for.

I wanted to be normal, at least as normal as a wolf guardian could be. I wanted to protect, not destroy. To guide, not betray.

But my father's shadow loomed over me like a curse.

He had always wanted me to take up his legacy. To become what he was...powerful, feared, unyielding. And no matter how hard I tried to escape it, that destiny clung unto me like a second skin.

Now Trisha was here.

And with her arrival, everything I had been fighting to suppress was rising again.

The visions.

The secrets.

The impossible choice between fate and my heart.

Evermore Academy didn't just reveal secrets.

It demanded them.

And I had a terrible feeling mine would cost me the one person I was never supposed to love but already did.
