Chapter 12 - Morning Whisper

The sun rose gently over the town — not with brilliance, but with a slow, golden calm that painted everything in warmth. The birds outside sang their usual morning tune, the kind that made the world feel new again.

Inside his modest home, Ralt sat at the kitchen table with a cup of coffee. He had barely touched it. His phone sat beside him, screen lit, thumb hovering over the keyboard.

He finally typed:

> "Good morning, Princess. I hope you slept well. Don't skip breakfast — you'll need energy for your classes 😊."

He hit send, smiled faintly, and set the phone down. It wasn't a grand message, but for some reason, his heart raced anyway.

A few minutes later, his phone buzzed.

> Princess: "Good morning, Sir Ralt 😄 I had breakfast already. You sound like my lolo reminding me to eat on time."

Ralt laughed softly, shaking his head as he typed back.

> Ralt: "Then I guess your lolo and I have something in common — we care about you."

A pause. Then another message came.

> Princess: "That's sweet. Thank you… it's nice to have someone check on me in the mornings."

Ralt stared at the screen for a while, his chest warming in a way he hadn't felt in years.

Across town, Princess was walking toward her classroom, phone in hand, still smiling. Her friend Shiela noticed immediately.

"Someone's in a good mood today," Shiela teased. "Let me guess — morning message from Mr. SUV?"

Princess rolled her eyes, trying to hide her grin. "He's just a friend, Shiela."

"Mhmm," Shiela hummed. "A friend who sends good morning texts? Sure."

Princess only laughed, but her cheeks betrayed her.

That same morning, Elena sat on the veranda of her small house, sunlight touching her face. Her phone chimed — a message from Eli.

> "Good morning, Elena. I just saw Princess smiling at her phone again. I have a feeling I know who she's texting."

Elena chuckled, replying quickly:

> "And I have a feeling I know who's smiling while typing that message, Eli."

A moment later, Eli sent another text:

> "You caught me. But honestly, I've never seen her this cheerful in months. Maybe your son has something to do with that."

Elena's eyes softened as she looked at the small garden in front of her. "Then I'm glad," she whispered to herself. "Maybe this is life's gentle way of making up for lost time."

---

That afternoon, after her last class, Princess walked out of the campus gate. Ralt was there again — leaning against his car, smiling as soon as he saw her.

"Hey," he greeted warmly. "Tough day?"

Princess nodded, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face. "Exams are coming. I'm already tired just thinking about it."

Ralt smiled. "Then you need a break. Coffee?"

She hesitated — just for a moment — before nodding. "Coffee sounds nice."

They went to a small café nearby. The place was quiet, the kind of spot where time seemed to slow down. They sat by the window again, the late afternoon sunlight falling softly across Princess's face.

Ralt asked about her studies, her plans after graduation. Princess shared her dreams of becoming a nurse abroad, of helping her lolo live comfortably.

"I want to give back everything he's done for me," she said quietly. "He's been my world since I was little."

Ralt nodded, deeply moved. "He raised you well. You're strong, caring, and grounded — not many people your age are like that."

Princess smiled shyly, stirring her coffee. "You sound like you've been observing me closely."

Ralt chuckled. "Maybe I have."

There was a pause — comfortable, not awkward — and their eyes met. Neither said anything for a few seconds.

Somewhere in that silence, something delicate formed between them — not rushed, not forced. Just real.

---

Later that night, back at home, Eli and Elena found themselves talking again over the phone.

Eli said, "I think the kids are growing closer."

Elena replied, smiling, "It's amazing, isn't it? It all started in that small hospital ward. Who would've thought?"

Eli chuckled softly. "Maybe it wasn't just a coincidence that our rooms were assigned together. Maybe Room Sapphire had something magical about it."

Elena's laughter was soft and sincere. "Maybe it did, Eli. Maybe it did."

And as the night drew to a close, miles apart yet connected by quiet hope, both parents fell asleep thinking of the same thing —

that sometimes, love doesn't just happen once in a lifetime.

Sometimes, it returns —

in the smiles of the next generation,

in the laughter that fills what once was just a hospital room,

and in hearts that find each other again… through destiny's gentle hand.
