Chapter 5 - Vol 2 - Aqua X Akane 3

The morning air was cold, but Aqua barely noticed.

He stood near the studio entrance, hands in his coat pockets, watching people pass by. Staff, assistants, actors—all moving in the usual rush of workdays.

Then he saw her.

Akane walked toward him, her hair swaying lightly, a scarf wrapped neatly around her neck. When her eyes met his, she smiled—small, but real.

Not an actress's smile.

Just Akane's.

"…Morning," she said.

"Morning."

They stood there for a moment, both aware of the quiet warmth between them. It had been two weeks since the night in the park, two weeks since they had said those words aloud.

Nothing dramatic had changed.

And yet… everything had.

Akane stepped a little closer and lowered her voice.

"…I still can't believe it sometimes."

"Believe what?"

"That we're actually… together."

Aqua gave a faint smile.

"…Me neither."

Their shoulders brushed as they walked inside, a small contact, but neither moved away.

It felt natural now.

---

Secrets rarely stayed hidden in a house where Ruby Hoshino lived.

That evening, Aqua returned home and found Ruby sitting cross-legged on the sofa, staring at him with narrowed eyes.

"…What?" Aqua asked.

Ruby leaned forward dramatically.

"Big brother," she said, pointing accusingly, "you're hiding something."

"I'm not."

"You are."

"I'm not."

"You are."

"…I'm not."

Ruby slammed her hands on the table.

"YOU ARE."

Ai, sitting nearby with tea, laughed softly.

"Aqua," she said, amused, "you should just tell her."

Aqua sighed.

"…Tell me what?" Ruby demanded.

He hesitated. For some reason, saying it here felt more nerve-wracking than confessing to Akane.

"…I'm dating someone," he said finally.

Ruby froze.

"…What."

Ai raised an eyebrow, clearly interested.

"…Her name is Akane," Aqua added.

Ruby blinked once. Twice.

Then she exploded.

"AKANE?! THE AKANE?! THE ACTRESS AKANE?!"

"…Yes."

Ruby grabbed a pillow and screamed into it.

"This is so unfair! My big brother got a girlfriend before me!"

Ai laughed so hard she nearly spilled her tea.

Ruby looked at Aqua again, more serious this time.

"…Do you like her? Really?"

Aqua answered without hesitation.

"Yes."

Ruby studied his face for a moment… then smiled.

"…Then I want to meet her properly."

---

Akane stood outside Aqua's apartment door, hands clasped nervously.

"…I've performed in front of thousands of people," she murmured to herself. "Why am I nervous about this?"

The door opened.

Aqua looked at her.

"You've been standing there for thirty seconds."

"…I was preparing mentally."

"…For a door?"

"…Yes."

He almost smiled.

Inside, Ruby immediately rushed forward.

"YOU'RE EVEN PRETTIER IN PERSON," she announced.

Akane froze in shock.

"…Thank you?"

Ruby grabbed her hands excitedly.

"Please take care of my emotionally constipated brother."

"Ruby," Aqua said flatly.

Ai stepped forward and bowed her head slightly.

"It's nice to meet you, Akane."

Akane returned the bow, still slightly overwhelmed.

"…It's an honor to meet you."

Dinner that night was loud, warm, and chaotic. Ruby asked a hundred questions. Ai watched everything quietly, her gentle smile never fading.

At one point, Akane glanced at Aqua.

"…Your family is wonderful," she said softly.

"…Yeah," he replied.

And for a moment, he felt something deep and peaceful settle in his chest.

---

Fame had a way of noticing things.

A week later, a photo appeared online—Aqua and Akane walking together after filming.

Nothing dramatic. Nothing scandalous.

But enough.

"Are Aqua Hoshino and Akane Kurokawa dating?"

The internet exploded.

Akane stared at her phone, pale.

"…I'm sorry," she said quietly. "This might cause trouble for you."

Aqua shook his head.

"…I don't care about rumors."

"But your career—"

"Akane," he said gently, "look at me."

She did.

"…I'm not ashamed of being with you."

Her throat tightened slightly.

"…I'm not ashamed either," she said.

And for the first time, the rumors didn't feel like pressure.

They felt like truth finally catching up.

---

Still, fame wasn't kind.

Reporters began asking questions. Directors worried about public image. Online comments ranged from supportive to cruel.

One evening, Akane sat alone in a dressing room, staring at the mirror.

"…Maybe they're right," she whispered. "Maybe this will hurt his career…"

The door opened quietly.

Aqua stepped inside.

"…You're thinking too much again," he said.

"…I don't want to be a burden," she admitted.

Aqua walked over and gently took her hand.

"You're not."

"…How can you be so sure?"

"…Because," he said calmly, "being with you is the only time I feel completely at ease."

Akane's eyes widened slightly.

"…You really say unfair things so naturally," she murmured.

"…I'm just honest."

She leaned forward slightly, resting her forehead against his shoulder.

"…Then I'll be honest too," she whispered. "I'm scared… but I don't want to let go."

"…Then don't."

His hand tightened gently around hers.

"I'm not going anywhere."

---

Spring arrived quietly.

One evening, they stood on the same rooftop where so many conversations had begun.

The city lights stretched endlessly below them.

"…We've come a long way," Akane said.

"…Yeah."

She looked at him.

"…Aqua… what do you think love is?"

He thought for a moment.

"…I think it's when someone becomes part of your ordinary days," he said. "Not dramatic. Not exciting. Just… necessary."

Akane smiled softly.

"…Then I think I understand."

She reached for his hand.

"…Because my days feel incomplete without you now."

Aqua looked at her, then squeezed her hand gently.

"…Mine too."

The wind blew softly around them.

No cameras.

No scripts.

No roles.

Just two people standing under the night sky, holding hands, hearts steady and warm.

And far away, in a quiet apartment, Ai looked out at the stars and smiled to herself.

"…They'll be okay," she whispered.

Because this time…

The story wasn't about tragedy.

It was about living.
