Chapter 4 - Vol - 2 Aqua X Akane ( Quiet Realisation )

They started eating together between shoots. Walking to the station together. Talking about small things—favorite foods, childhood memories, stupid rumors from the industry.

One evening, rain began suddenly while they were leaving the studio.

Akane frowned up at the sky.

"…I didn't bring an umbrella."

Aqua silently opened his and held it over both of them.

They walked side by side, close enough that their shoulders occasionally brushed.

Neither moved away.

The rain fell softly, turning the city lights into blurred streaks of color.

"Aqua," Akane said quietly, "do you ever feel lonely?"

He answered honestly.

"…Sometimes."

"…Me too."

They stopped at a crosswalk, waiting for the light.

Akane looked down at the wet pavement.

"…But lately," she said, her voice almost lost in the rain, "I don't feel that way when I'm with you."

The signal changed.

But neither of them stepped forward immediately.

Aqua felt his heart beating faster, in a way he wasn't used to. Not anxiety. Not tension.

Something warmer.

"…I think," he said slowly, "I feel the same."

Akane looked up.

For a moment, the world felt very quiet.

----------

A few weeks later, filming wrapped on their project.

The cast held a small after-party, full of laughter and noise, but Aqua slipped out early. Crowds tired him.

He found himself on the same rooftop again.

Footsteps followed a few minutes later.

"You always run away from parties," Akane said.

"They're loud."

"They're fun."

"They're exhausting."

Akane laughed and leaned beside him.

"…Aqua," she said after a moment, "can I ask you something honestly?"

"When have you ever asked anything dishonestly?"

"…Fair point."

She took a breath.

"Are you ever scared… of getting close to someone?"

Aqua didn't answer immediately.

"…Yes."

"Why?"

"…Because people leave," he said quietly. "Or things change."

Akane looked at him gently.

"…I'm not planning to leave."

Those simple words hit him harder than he expected.

"…You can't promise that," Aqua said softly.

"I know," Akane replied. "But I can promise I won't pretend."

Silence stretched between them.

Then Aqua spoke.

"…Akane."

"Yes?"

"…When I'm with you… I don't feel like I have to pretend either."

Her breath caught.

"…Then don't," she whispered.

---------

One evening after filming, they sat on a quiet park bench, their breath visible in the cold air.

Akane rubbed her hands together.

"…Cold?"

Aqua removed his scarf and wrapped it around her before she could protest.

"You'll freeze," she said.

"I'm fine."

"…You're unfair," she murmured.

"Why?"

"…Because you do things like this so naturally."

Aqua looked at her, puzzled.

"…Is that strange?"

Akane shook her head slowly.

"…No. It's just… kind."

They sat quietly for a while, watching snow begin to fall.

Then Akane spoke, her voice trembling slightly.

"Aqua… I think I'm in love with you."

The words hung in the air, fragile and real.

Aqua didn't react immediately—not because he was surprised, but because he was afraid of answering wrong.

"…I know," he said softly.

Akane looked down.

"…I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said it like that—"

"I'm in love with you too."

She froze.

"…What?"

Aqua met her eyes, calm but sincere.

"I realized it a while ago," he said. "I just didn't know how to say it."

Akane's eyes filled with tears—not dramatic ones, just quiet ones that slipped down her cheeks.

"…You're really unfair," she whispered again.

"…Why?"

"…Because you say things like that so calmly… while my heart feels like it's going to explode."

Aqua laughed softly.

"…Mine too."

He reached out hesitantly, then gently took her hand.

Her fingers tightened around his immediately, as if she had been waiting for that moment.

Snow fell silently around them.

And for the first time, neither of them felt like actors.

They were just two people, sitting close together, hearts racing, hands warm despite the cold.

----------

That night, Aqua returned home late.

Ai was in the kitchen, half-asleep over a cup of tea.

"You're late," she said without looking up.

"…Sorry."

She glanced at him, then smiled knowingly.

"…You look happy."

Aqua paused.

"…Do I?"

"Yes."

He thought about Akane's smile, the warmth of her hand, the quiet certainty in his chest.

"…Yeah," he admitted softly.

Ai smiled to herself.

"Good," she said. "That's how love is supposed to feel."

Aqua looked out the window at the night sky.

For once, the stars didn't feel distant.

They felt close enough to touch.
