Chapter 21 - A Line He Would Not Cross

Huff! Huff!

Raven gasped for air on the ground, rolling in frenzy.

The sudden change in environment and altitude stole air out of the lungs.

Wheeze!

He was hyperventilating, his body trembling.

'That fucking bitch!' He cursed her, trying his hardest to calm himself.

'I thought this would go easy,' He looked over to the sky.

A faint glow, comouflaging in between the twinkling stars.

She had even calmed his mark down, but…

The words she said right before dropping him in this village haunted him.

.

"Accurseds born out of the influence of a single accursed shared a single hive mind, depending upon their levels."

.

This might even seem advantageous to some people, since the low-level accurseds were going to be dumber.

But the problem arose here.

The accurseds in this village were slumbering.

And the second he kills one, every single one of them would wake up and hunt him down.

Their hive mind working together would ensure they would prioritize him as the target.

He had to hunt five, all while making sure that Eve didn't find him.

And fighting accurseds were tricky to begin with.

A single low-level accursed was no match for him, but a group of them was a different matter.

Tightening his grip on the axes, he got up, ready to hunt the accurseds.

As he looked for any, he formed a quick strategy for himself.

First, he would locate a few of them in the immediate vicinity.

Then, he would kill the first accursed and immediately take down as much as he could before they re-grouped again.

Roaming around, he cursed the area he was in.

Since it was real people who had turned into accursed, he could predict their locations to a certain extent.

This place had a low population to begin with.

And paired with the abundance of farm land, it made it even more risky.

Since most families here had small farmlands, their houses were spaced quite a bit.

He had to find a family with the most people to begin the hunt.

"What the!"

As he was wandering around, he saw it.

A real accursed.

Something he only had memories of from stories.

It was a humanoid being, with its entire skin black, as if it had been burnt to a crisp.

But it wasn't crisp at all.

The skin was dripping.

As if they were melting, but froze in the middle of dripping.

And their skins were bumpy, like they had some sort of disease.

All in all, it was a disgusting and horrific sight.

Ugh!

Raven gagged.

Given by the energy being radiated off the… creature, he could safely conclude this was a low-level accursed.

It felt weak, but his instincts warned him of the energy around it.

The accursed was lying in the middle of the farmland, which made Raven's breath hitch.

'Fuck!'

He looked around, and his conclusion was right.

It must be daytime when they were turned into accurseds.

Because he noticed many other creatures around in the farmlands.

Work hours.

They were working when they were turned into these creatures.

'Great,' He bit his lips in frustration, 'They would be spaced afar even more.'

Still, since it was a medieval period, he could safely assume the women would be inside.

Maybe if he were lucky, there would be multiple in the same household.

And if they were outside, they could be found in groups, gossiping around.

'God, someone would think I am sexist if they heard this right now.'

He made his way to the houses with measured steps.

Creak!

The small, wooden door creaked open with an eerie sound.

"Anyone home?" His voice echoed in the ghostly silence.

Looking around this poor, shabby place, he really made him appreciate his condition for a second.

This was the real life for 99 percent of the people living in this world.

This entire house wasn't even the size of his master bedroom.

'I don't have time for this right now,' He shook his head, removing those thoughts.

He slowly made his way to the kitchen.

'I am not sexist.'

As he reached the kitchen, sure enough, there was someone in the kitchen.

'Just one,' He muttered under his breath.

This wasn't enough.

He exited the house and made his way into another.

His heartbeat was gradually gaining pace as he made his way around.

Passing by multiple of these horrifying creatures wasn't really the most calming activity in this world.

Click! Swish!

He entered another house, and his eyes widened.

'Oh!'

His knees felt weak all of a sudden.

He hadn't considered this to be a possibility.

But rationally, it made sense.

Of course, there would be these, too.

Children.

Children who were converted into accursed.

There were four in total.

All below the age of 7.

Their faces were those of utter horror.

They must have been so scared when they realized that something was wrong.

Urk!

He heaved, immediately running out of the house.

The minimal amount of confidence he had faded away.

He couldn't possibly kill children.

Even if they were converted into such monstrous beings.

This was a line he never crossed.

And didn't think he would ever cross that.

He had to look for another house now.

Surveying the area, he had made a general map of it.

There were many houses with children in them, and he had to skip those.

'Fucking rabbits.' He cursed them for populating like this.

Regardless, he had made his plans.

He would start with a group of three women in a house, and immediately move on to a group of 2 men on the farm right outside.

It was rare for houses not have children in them.

And since it was peak working hours, there weren't many people outside, chit-chatting.

That was reserved for the evening.

There were a few more groups, but they were all quite far from there.

He had to hunt the remaining 15 while being chased by multiple.

And it would only get worse.

'The sparsity is going to spell my doom,' He prayed, readying his axes.

Taking a deep breath, he was finally ready.
