Chapter 6 - CHAPTER SIX: BLOODLINES REVEALED

Floating specks swirled through the dim morning glow inside the warehouse, where smoke hung heavy along with something sharper - regret. Leaning hard on a wooden box, Ava winced as pain pulsed from the cut Elara had left behind. Kneeling close, Liam pressed his torn jacket into her side, trying to slow the blood. He kept his fingers firm, yet his gaze wavered - not from fear, but from anger tangled up in grief.

"Stay right there," he said, words like stones under boots. His face came closer, first touching her brow with a quiet kiss, after that finding her lips - gentle, staying too long, something calm inside the mess around them. She gave way without thought, hands pulling at his hair, flavor of blood and skin on her tongue. One single heartbeat passed where nothing else mattered: only this, only now, held tight between two people who refused to let go.

Crumbling gravel broke the silence. Out stepped Orin, holding a file, lips curled just slightly. "Sweet moment," he said. "Still, this matters more right now."

Liam drew away, teeth bared. "You were given money." He hissed

A scrap of truth slipped loose. Given freely, since survival deserves respect. Orin let the picture fall near them - a worn image from long ago. Decades stamped on it, blurry but clear enough. Down a grand hallway walked two people. Her mother. Her father. Together. Cloaked beside someone marked by royalty.

Fear shot through Ava. Her hand grabbed the object fast, pulse pounding. That can't be real

‎"Not impossible," Orin said. "Fact. Your 'forbidden union'? Sanctioned. King brokered it - a experiment. Half-vamp, half-lycan superweapon. Controlled hybrid to crush rebellions."

His hand tightened around her middle. "False," he said

‎"Proof's in the palace vaults." Orin tapped the photo's edge. "Your parents discovered the truth. Blackmailed him for peace talks. King burned them to silence it. Now you? Perfect sequel. Live bait to draw out their old allies."

Darkness closed in around Ava's eyes. That note in her bag felt like fire: Trust no one. Words from her father, sharp, too accurate. Was she a link - or just something to be used? She asked it plainly - what was the point of telling them at all?

‎Orin shrugged. "Coin from both sides. But you two? Disruptive. King's losing control - Elara was just the start. Vault's in the old citadel, guarded by elite. Get there, expose it, or die as the monster they made you."

Sound of sirens grew louder from the street - help was arriving. He pulled her to her feet, eyes holding hers without blinking. This finishes now, he meant it when he said that. The real story comes out. One last stand, together

Her head dipped once, flames sparking again. With his lips on hers - hard, certain - they moved fast, leaving stillness behind.

Floodlights cut through dark as engines growled. A van sat heavy at the entrance, metal gleaming under harsh light. Rifles pointed steady from every window. The crew froze mid-step, boots still kicking up dust. Up front, Elara watched calm, lips curled just enough. Her ride idled close behind, motor humming low.

Her voice boomed through the speaker, sharp as broken glass. Where do you think you're headed? The ruler's been asking about his favorite toy

Foot slammed down, engine roaring as Liam aimed right for the group. Glass cracked under gunfire, bullets bouncing loud on metal. Ava crouched close to the floor, fingers like claws holding tight to the dashboard. Hit them hard - that was the only thought

A sudden lurch forward broke the line of barriers, steel shrieking under pressure. Hunters jumped aside as the truck burst through. Behind it, Elara twisted the wheel hard, her vehicle skidding into chase. Bullets snapped through air without pause. Tires fought pavement on the wide road ahead. Towers of Khavar streaked sideways in their vision.

Hold tight! Down narrow lanes went Liam, rubber screeching. Glass shattered behind as metal tore through, sticking deep in fabric. She turned fast, shot flying from Orin's gun - one wheel burst, then another, biker crashing hard. The city blurred past.

Momentum surged as Elara's van pushed forward, hitting their rear. The truck twisted hard, crashing into concrete. Smoke poured out once Liam found his footing, pressing the gas - gray clouds rising fast.

‎"Citadel's two miles!" Ava yelled. "We ditch and run!"

Fog swallowed them fast, wheels skidding down slick tunnels. Thunder shook the streets overhead - Elara's people spreading wide.

Down in the sludge, Liam drew Ava near where the tunnel pinched tight, their breathing syncing. "Should that be real..."

Stillness settled between them as her lips met his, fierce and urgent. This truth remained untouched by words. You are what holds me fast

The sound rumbled through her mouth. "Mine," he said

Beneath the fortress, the sound of voices grew louder. The passageway opened into old tunnels, crumbling, wet with seepage. Above, through metal grids, soldiers moved - dressed in polished gray suits, watchful. Stone walls sagged under centuries, damp and silent except for footsteps overhead.

That door stood heavy, carved with runes that buzzed like trapped wasps. Her blood moved under the skin, not quite human, not entirely something else. A hum rose when she touched it, sharp at first, then soft. The mechanism gave way with a sequence of metallic sighs.

Buried deep: a collection of chilling records. Hidden among them, documents tagged Project Bridge - her mother's handwriting, royal decrees signed in ink, vials marked Ava Prime filled with dried crimson traces.

A voice came through, steady. The king was there, eyes fixed on the screen. "You are back," he said. His words hung in the air. Daughter, he had called her. The moment stretched, quiet

She felt it then, the truth pressing down. Her own kin had built this prison. The door shut hard, echoes bouncing. Boots filled the hall now, soldiers rushing close.

He moved slightly, blocking her from harm. "We stand as one." That word hung between them. A quiet promise. Not loud. Never broken

Fists swinging, claws slashing through the air. Her world split apart at that moment. Still, fingers locked together, neither letting go. The fight raged on without silence.

Run now or face what comes. Dawn wanted answers - no more lies
