Chapter 23 - 23: Liability of Nero

"You wish to see our graveyard? Do you wake up the dead?"

"No, I wish. Having my own little army of the dead would be fun. But that's not it. Let's just go, you'll see in due time."

Nicole brings him to the graveyard, expecting a magic trick of some sort. Among the trees and the graves they walked and she chooses two in particular.

"These are my parents. Do your thing."

"I've cornered myself. There's nothing left of them. I can't do it if the body is not full, resting in its' grave."

"Nicole, I'm gonne need to know if there is anything left in it. Usually in wars the corpses are mangled to the point of unrecognition."

"Nice try, Ismael. I'm not stupid. You can tell if people went to heaven or hell and you killed my parents. My angel communicated me everything earlier. I was crying because I didn't know such evil could exist. But I guess I can't really kill you. So I publicly sent out the intel that you are here. Ambroise Ler will destroy you one way or another."

"Fine. That's to be expected. I blew out your damn parents. I've killed them. Are you bringing them back? Are you avenging them? I don't think so. But there is something funny about this whole thing. Ambroise Ler has already lost, there is no way in hell either Theigon, Basil Morgan or Ler himself could have been here on time, so hear me out."

Once again he pulls out his gun and shoots as fast as humanly possible and gets her throat and both shoulders. Her angel is blocked by his, as he reaches closer to her body. Grabs her neck and drops her from her balance to break her neck on the grave of her mother. The angel manifests itself in front of him and Ismael pulls the trigger in its' head while Sebastian beheads the creature.

"Bringing you to Heaven might not be possible now, Ismael. You've compromised your possibilities."

"Then I'll stay here on this planet and damn it to hell myself."

"You do not seem to visualize the severity of your actions, young man. Heaven gave you a chance because they understood you've been sent to a war as a young adult and couldn't do it any other way. But somehow upon realizing that your friends had taken a wrong path in life, you've played God and tried to kill them. Somehow you've succeeded and managed to become an even worse person."

"You'll have to deal with that anyway. They sent you, you have to finish your mission. And right now, I can't stay here too long. I'll hide behind the graveyard, in the bushes."

"Ismael. I am not just your eyes. I am a sentient being with intelligence and honor. If you refuse to choose the Way of Heaven you will wander here as a dead person and lose yourself more and more. You have to find inner peace."

"What makes you think I don't have inner peace already?"

"You made me kill a fellow angel. I've killed a bretheren because you decided to act as a demon."

"So now there is a Way of Heaven?"

"I was supposed to test your first thoughts and actions."

"Screw you Sebastian. Ambroise Ler cannot win against me, I won't let him do me dirty like that."

"Even your vocabulary has toughened through time. It seems you are getting close to complete loss of self."

"I've lost myself at Nara! I've lost everything at Nara! I don't even know who Ismael is supposed to be. My reputation is already low enough, everybody's trying to kill me or sell me to someone else. I'm exhausted, I'll take a nap here."

Ismael fell asleep in the bushes, dreaming of what the angel was doing at the moment. This time he focused on it, hard as possible yet peacefully. He was able to visualize the scene as Sebastian was flying and observing the region, slaughtering spies in his name.

But a woman was there, standing, and the angel refused to hurt her. She was facing the other way, arms straight aiming down as if she was about to fall, curved forward a bit.

"You're one of the four. I've been Ismael's angel long enough to recognize your aura. Among many, a familiar scent."

"I was told about what happened at the Uncharted. I don't see any reason to keep going."

"You talk like a dead person but your heart beats like that of a pure human."

"Oh I'm very much alive, sir angel. Not so innocent though."

"What are your plans for Ismael? He's lost himself into an extreme descent of evil and sadism."

"His life his choice. I've been cast down the abyss. I've seen what the depths of this world have to offer. I've met with Capucine."

"Who?"

"Don't play stupid with me, angel. You're high ranked, you know her."

"And what have you two discussed?"

"I've left all my money and belongings to C.Y. Lens. I have to live with her now. She onws me. Since I grew up a bit in size I can almost feel like I can relate to most people. A strange thought."

"When Ismael wakes up, what do you want me to tell him?"

"Come to Hantei. We're waiting for you. Capucine has a way for us."

"Very well."

The angel flew at high speed to the sky to have a wider view of the current situation and the woman left, walking slowly.

"Capucine. Even though I don't know her, I have a feeling I should worry about this. Ismael is here, and there are some active shooters in the far region."

Ismael woke up twenty minutes after his angel finished killing off every possible threat.

"Were you up all night, Sebastian?"

"Yes, sir. You had a few enemies around."

"Thank you, I owe you one. Once again."

"Are you going to change your ways now?"

"No."
