Chapter 10 - Dream of Violet Fire

The fire burned quietly inside the cave, casting warm shadows across the damp walls.

Ray stood near the entrance, making sure the magical barrier surrounding her home was stable, before turning toward Aren, who looked utterly exhausted.

Ray said softly,

"Today was long for you…

Go to sleep now. You'll need your strength tomorrow.

Training won't be easy."

Aren lifted his gaze to her.

He saw the seriousness in her eyes… and the dryness this world carved into everyone who lived in it.

He didn't argue.

He simply said:

"Alright… I'll rest for a bit."

He lay down on the simple bed she had prepared for him.

The quiet crackling of the fire was the last thing he heard…

before darkness swallowed him whole.

He found himself standing in an endless void.

The space was black… black like ink.

Yet strangely, the ground beneath his feet existed,

as if the darkness itself had taken form to support him.

Suddenly—

a thin line of violet light cut through the distance, growing little by little…

step by step…

until it took the shape of a dark humanoid figure.

From within the shadows—

Shine walked toward Aren.

Half of his face was drowned in darkness,

while the other half was illuminated by his glowing violet eyes…

shining with a quiet, unsettling awareness,

as if they knew far more than they revealed.

Shine smiled faintly, a hint of mockery in it.

Shine (in a calm, deep voice that shook the void):

"So… here you are.

You think you've begun to understand this world?

A tiny fragment of a small truth?"

He stepped closer,

and the ground beneath Aren shifted, as if it were slipping away.

"What you've seen so far… is nothing but a shell.

A shadow before the light—

and even that shadow, you still don't understand."

The shadows behind Shine began to move,

as though creatures were hiding within them, waiting for a command.

"This world doesn't give anyone time to understand.

It… takes.

Devours.

And erases."

A massive violet flame suddenly rose behind him,

wrapping around the shadows,

nearly touching Aren without burning him—

as if it existed only to threaten.

Shine extended his hand toward Aren,

the shadows forming claw-like shapes around his arm.

"Survival… is not for those who seek understanding.

It belongs to those who can endure before they ask."

In a sudden instant—

his voice sharpened, carrying something close to anger.

"Remember this, Aren…

This is only the beginning."

Just before Shine's hand reached Aren's shoulder—

the scene exploded into blinding light, forcing Aren to scream—

Aren's eyes flew open.

He gasped sharply.

Sweat drenched his shoulders and back,

as if the dream had been painfully real.

He sat up, breathing heavily, trying to steady the tremor in his fingers.

"Why…?

Why did Shine appear?"

He ran a hand over his face, struggling to process what had happened.

"How… how does he know everything that's happening to me?

Was that just a dream…

or is he actually communicating with me?"

A heavy feeling settled in his chest.

Questions collided inside his mind:

Why did Shine seem to be watching his every step?

Why did he feel… frightening?

Hostile?

Angry over something Aren couldn't understand?

He stared up at the dark ceiling of the cave.

"What is happening…?"

And that was the beginning of a night he would never forget.

Aren didn't sleep after the dream.

Even when he closed his eyes again, his mind remained awake…

clinging to the image of Shine's violet gaze,

until exhaustion finally overcame him.

With the first thread of light slipping through the cabin window,

a scent entered the air—

warm.

Inviting.

Real.

The smell of food.

Aren slowly opened his eyes and saw Ray standing near the small stone stove,

oil crackling softly,

steam rising around her like silver mist.

She glanced at him without stopping her movements.

"Finally awake?

Come on… food's ready."

As Aren sat and approached the table, a strange thought crossed his mind:

"Since arriving in this world… I forgot I was human.

I forgot that I… need to eat."

Everything had happened so fast—

fear,

running,

the forest,

Shine,

magic,

Ray…

It felt as though a single day had been an entire lifetime.

He began eating slowly,

and with every bite, he felt his body reclaim a piece of reality.

The flavor was simple…

but it was the first normal thing since his arrival.

Ray noticed, but said nothing.

She merely watched him briefly, then stood.

"When you're done… we're going out.

There's a lot to train."

After a few minutes, they stepped outside the cabin.

The Silent Forest was colder than the day before.

Its light always resembled the moments before a storm—

neither morning nor evening…

the light of a world unlike his own.

Aren followed her with steady steps.

Before she began, he raised his hand hesitantly.

"I have a question… just a simple one."

She raised an eyebrow, waiting.

"What lies… beyond this forest?

Are there… cities?

People?

Places I can reach?"

For a moment, he felt childish asking,

but the question came from deep within—

from his need to know if something awaited him beyond the darkness.

Ray looked toward the depths of the trees behind him,

as if ensuring the forest itself wasn't listening,

then spoke quietly:

"Yes… of course there are cities.

This forest is only a fragment of the world.

As endless as it seems… it's smaller than you imagine."

She stepped closer,

the air shifting subtly around her—

as if the forest respected her presence.

"Beyond this forest lie kingdoms.

Kingdoms of humans, elves, dwarves, and demons.

There are roads… markets… wars… and alliances."

She studied him carefully, measuring his resolve.

"And there are places…

your feet must never step into."

Aren gave a nervous smile.

"Like what?"

Her tone softened, but became more sincere.

"Places no one returns from…

and places where the higher powers govern this world."

She shook her head, pushing the thought aside.

"But that doesn't matter now.

You won't leave this forest until you learn how to survive first."

She stepped back and raised her hand lightly.

"Let's begin your training… Aren."
