Chapter 12 - A Spark from Another World

Ray stood facing Aren in the small training ground, sunlight slipping through the branches above them, as if the forest itself were setting a stage of light and shadow.

"Now… we'll train your control over the fire element we discovered within you," she said calmly, her voice steady yet carrying unmistakable seriousness.

Aren felt a surge of excitement rise inside him. His heart raced, though he had no clear idea what awaited him.

"Let's try… let's see what I can do," he thought with a faint smile as he cautiously raised his hands before him.

Ray extended her hands lightly, moving her fingers as if tracing invisible boundaries of energy around him.

"Focus on your inner sensation," she instructed. "Let the fire take shape. Don't force it. Your feelings are the key."

Aren closed his eyes. Heat seeped from his heart to the tips of his fingers, like a hidden pulse awakening from within.

Suddenly, a small flame formed between his palms—stable, vivid, and natural, as if it were a part of him.

He opened his eyes in pure amazement and joy, hardly believing what he had created.

"I did it… a real flame… I can actually do this," he thought, smiling in disbelief.

Ray stood at a distance, her eyes widening in genuine shock. She hadn't expected a human beginner—someone with no prior training—to produce such power with such effortless control.

"I can't believe it… a beginner… a human… and yet he possesses this level of ability…" she whispered to herself, astonishment and curiosity written plainly across her face.

Aren felt no fear—only a strange, uplifting joy. Barely aware that his power far exceeded what he saw, he tried directing the flame toward a small stone in front of him.

The fire moved with uncanny smoothness, responding to his heartbeat and gestures as though it were a living thing, gently obeying his simple will.

Aren laughed softly, thrilled by what he had achieved, unaware of just how rare such control was for a novice.

"Wow… this is amazing," he murmured, his eyes shining with childlike delight.

Ray didn't move. Her silence filled the space, yet her eyes said everything—shock, disbelief, and deepening curiosity.

"How… can a human beginner possess this kind of power… and control it so easily…?" she wondered, realizing she was standing before something truly abnormal—something that demanded careful understanding.

Aren raised his hands again, eager to repeat the sensation. The fire followed his movements gently, joy flooding his chest, still oblivious to the true magnitude of his power.

Ray exhaled slowly. She couldn't stop herself from questioning it all—but she said nothing. Everything about him was unfamiliar, and every moment revealed something new that left her even more unsettled.

Finally, she ended the training with a firm tone.

"That's enough for today, Aren. Rest for now… tomorrow, we'll continue."

They sat together on the edge of the cabin's entrance, their feet dangling above the ground as the sky shifted through shades of deep orange and pale violet. Aren closed his eyes for a moment, enjoying the calm, as if the forest breeze were washing some of the fatigue from his mind.

Ray gazed toward the horizon, her eyes fixed on the sky as though searching for something distant—something old, or perhaps a looming threat. Yet her expression held quiet alertness and lingering amazement.

Breaking the silence, Aren spoke softly but honestly.

"Ray… there's something I want to tell you. Something I've never told anyone before."

She turned to him slowly, curiosity and caution mixing in her gaze, but she remained silent, waiting.

Aren took a deep breath, then spoke in a low, sincere voice.

"I… didn't come from this world. I'm from another one. I still don't understand how I got here. Everything feels strange… all I know is my name and fragments of what happened. Everything else is… unclear."

Ray stopped breathing for a moment. Her eyes widened, her thoughts trembling in stunned silence.

"How… how could a human survive coming from another world and arrive here? And how is this connected to the strange power I sensed within him? Is this the source of his strength? Is he telling the truth… or is this something else entirely?"

Seeing her reaction, Aren closed his eyes briefly, then smiled faintly.

"Please… keep this between us. No one else knows. I wanted only you to know."

Ray turned away slightly, trying to regain her composure. She took a deep breath before responding in a controlled voice.

"Alright… it will be our secret."

She touched her lips briefly, calming her racing heart, then looked at him again—her eyes filled with wonder and curiosity, but also caution.

"You… are something unusual. I've never seen anything like this before."

Inside her mind, awe and curiosity intertwined.

"How did he get here? How did he obtain this power? Is his crossing between worlds connected to it? And how can a human possess something like this without years of training?"

Silence lingered, broken only by the wind whispering through the trees.

Aren, reassured by her lack of fear or judgment, looked up at the sky once more and spoke quietly.

"I don't know the reason. Everything that happened is still a mystery to me. But I needed someone who could carry this secret… and you're the only one I felt I could trust."

Ray sat beside him, her gaze still fixed on the horizon. She sensed something extraordinary before her—something that required patience and understanding. Her questions only deepened.

"Is his power tied to his existence here? Was crossing worlds the cause—or the result? And how can a human carry something like this?"

She inhaled deeply, steadying herself, then said in a softer, calmer tone:

"Alright… now that you've told me, let's focus on the rest of today… and prepare for tomorrow."

Aren smiled, feeling relieved that his secret was safe with her.

Meanwhile, Ray continued to observe him quietly, her thoughts circling endlessly around his mysterious power—and the unsettling connection between his arrival from another world and the unfamiliar energy dwelling within him.
