Chapter 20 - Chapter 15: Breaking Tides

The wind had turned sharp, carrying the scent of storm and saltwater. The docks, once just a grind of routine, now hummed with tension. Crates shifted unevenly under the press of movement, ropes creaked, and every plank beneath TSUF's feet seemed alive, threatening to betray him at the slightest misstep.

He felt the pressure in the air, a tangible weight pressing down—not the usual watching presence, but something harsher, a sense of consequence waiting for a misstep. TSUF inhaled, steadying himself. Survival here wasn't about strength alone; it was calculation, timing, and nerve.

A pile of crates groaned on the far pier. A misstep could send them crashing into the canal, dragging men and cargo alike into chaos. TSUF's eyes tracked the edges, the shifts, the angles. Each breath measured, each heartbeat counted.

He moved with intention, positioning himself to absorb the worst of the wobble. Muscles strained, sweat running cold under the wind, mind sharp and precise. The crates toppled slightly, a dangerous sway, but he countered, redirecting the momentum, saving both cargo and laborer.

When it settled, quiet fell again, sharp and brief, broken only by distant shouts. TSUF's chest heaved, hands trembling. No one praised him. That wasn't the point. The victory was in knowing he had faced the chaos and made it bend—not by chance, but by choice.

The storm clouds thickened overhead. Shadows stretched long across the warped planks, pooling like ink. TSUF felt them, felt the weight of every choice the day had forced upon him. And yet, in that tense silence, he stood steady, ready for the next challenge, the next decision, the next wave that would try to break him.
