Chapter 19 - Looking around the Capital

Feyra was feeling comfortable having a bed under her that wasn't too soft and not too hard.

But before she would be able to continue resting she wanted to look around the Capital and get an idea of where she was. In the end she would also have to find a way into the government buildings to help them gather information on the case they reopened.

I wonder what they have to do... Not only the reopened case but also someone who tried blowing up their buildings... That must be a lot of work.

She stood up and took out the map from her smaller bag to see if she could use it navigating around the city. Sadly it wasn't detailed enough so that she would have to find a map specifically for the city.

Feyra went down to the receptionist seeing him talk to someone.

"The suite? Someone even paid 1500 coins per night with food included!? Wow. They must be rich.", a man looking like a cook said surprised.

The receptionist only nodded before looking in Feyra's direction. "Is there anything I can do for you?", he asked with a smile.

"I would like to have a map of the city. The one I have isn't detailed enough and I'm here for the first time.", she said and the receptionist nodded throughout her request.

"We have some here. Given that you took a higher class room you'll get it for free. Usually they are 25 coins but only for lower class and middle class rooms. For any other rooms such services are included in the price.", he explained before taking out a map and giving it to her.

The cook looked curiously at her the whole time before he stopped Feyra from going out. "I'm sorry for stopping you but your hair colour has caught my attention. I've been taught from a young age that Fallen Angels have such hair colour with these patterns. Could it be?", he asked twirling his mustache in the meantime. It seemed to be a habit as he had even done so while talking to the receptionist.

"Your eyes are good. Indeed I am one. It surprises me a little that people learn about that.", Feyra answered turning to the cook.

"We are taught these things mostly through myths. Hardly any of us get to meet a Fallen Angel. But when we do we treat them with the utmost respect.", the receptionist answered her, trying to think of the various myths he had heard.

"Do you have food included in your price?", the cook asked finally letting go of his mustache.

"I do. Why do you ask?", she asked not expecting anything big.

"Hey Ludwig! Food is on me for her. It is an honour meeting a Fallen Angel.", the cook said to the receptionist who seemed a little surprised at the words the cook said.

"Okay... Miss that would make only 500 coins per night again. No need to worry about anything. Our boss would agree too. Although... If it was our boss he would likely pay for the whole stay...", the receptionist mumbled after telling Feyra the price change.

However, Feyra had better ears and heard every single word in shock. "Please no need to lower the prices even more. I'll pay at least something. I already thank you for taking over the cost for food.", she said slightly bowing to the cook showing her gratitude.

Feyra often didn't know how to show such feelings and often opted for a simple gesture and some words.

After everything had been settled in the inn she finally went out with her small bag only and a brand new map that could lead her through the Capital. First Feyra went to the market seeing all the merchants. A lot of them were selling ores and stones. Quite a few had Amethyst to sell and competed with each other.

Feyra didn't mind them before walking to the main road and then turning right. She saw that various divination clubs and spirituality clubs lay near the red light district. She was quite intrigued by these things but the thing she was most interested in was the book store that was also near them.

Given she had wanted to look for some books on agriculture and various other things as well she immediately had to go there.

The road was quite long circling through the whole Capital but soon Feyra stood in front of the store that had cozy light inside.

"Hello.", the cashier said reading in one of the books.

This isn't usual. The book store has barely any visitors and most of them seem to be the elderly.

Feyra went inside and looked through the shelves and saw some books on medicine. She flipped through them a bit but most of them already explained things she was familiar with.

In another shelf she found books that seemed more interesting as the topics were more about politics and agriculture.

'Politics around the world - easy to understand' seems like a rather weird title... But I suppose I can take it with me given I don't know anything of the time nowadays. Ah there are also books about agriculture. 'How to best grow your crops' sounds something I could need.

She found a few that helped her understand the situation better but ultimately she only took two with her before moving to another shelf.

This one had a plaque above it saying 'Philosophy'. The shelf was full of books looking similar and stating various theories. One of them caught Feyra's eye as the author was a name she was familiar with but had only heard once.

'Between good and evil'... A work written by Origin... I've only heard of Origin's name once but it seems Origin has also written some books... I should take it with me.

Feyra promptly took it without checking the price and moved on. A lot of the philosophical works that had been on the shelf she already knew thanks to occasionally sneaking into the library of the Kingdom.

Princess Loreen had helped her whenever she also wanted to borrow some books. In the meantime Feyra was allowed to take a look around and she often found works from great philosophs that had interested her.

The next section in the shelves was Fantasy. Those were works written for entertainment. They occasionally had real world knowledge in them but also had fantastical beasts and creatures as well as powers that often didn't exist.

'The Grim Reaper's arrival'... What a weird name... Who wrote it?

Feyra checked the book and turned it around multiple times but couldn't find the author's name anywhere. She opened the book to look inside and found the first page posing a question: "Are you familiar with the concept that should not exist?"

Feyra didn't know what this meant and put it back again. If she had been able to live a more normal life she may have perhaps been able to answer this question.

What is up with these books and stories?

Feyra moved on and saw a section with history books. Some of them were about the Alliance but also the Kingdom. She looked through them before deciding to take one about the Alliance's history with her.

Feyra walked up to the cashier who finally looked up at her.

"These four books?", she asked looking a little tired.

"Yes."

"Okay... This one is 300, the other is 450, this one is 300 again and the last one is 2000. Makes in total 3050 coins.", the cashier said writing it down.

Feyra took out her money bag and put 3050 coins on the counter. The cashier took them and counted them before noting it down on her paper and making a copy she gave to Feyra.

"Should there be any damage to any of these books you can come back with this piece of paper and I can replace the damaged one.", the cashier said sounding like this was a standard sentence she had to say.

"Thank you. May I ask if you go out often?", Feyra asked taking the books and putting them in her bag. She had to move some things around to fit them all in.

The cashier seemed a little surprised at her question before she answered, "No not really. Does this matter?"

"I would advise you go out a bit more and take in some sunlight. You seem a little tired and it could be Vitamin D deficiency.", Feyra said in a polite tone.

The cashier looked with wide eyes at her. "Now that you mention it... I suppose I should follow your advise."

"If it doesn't get better I would advise going to a doctor."

"But they're expensive...", the cashier mumbled not being a big fan of hearing she should get it checked out.

"No need to worry. If it's only Vitamin D deficiency then it can be fixed." Feyra reassured her and nodded before wanting to leave.

"Miss before you leave... Thank you for your advise but... Who should I write to if I get better? I would really like to tell you if your advise helped."

"Who? Just tell the letter pigeon to look for a peculiar traveler in leather armour with a chainmail skirt and a peculiar hair colour.", Feyra answered with a smile.

"Thank you Miss. I'll remember."

Feyra went back up the main road towards the market. It was already getting later in the afternoon and Feyra would need to rest this night.

I still have 11.950 coins left. I should truly calculate how much I may need for my stay here... But before I do so I should rest given I walked through the last night.

Thinking already about the evening she didn't notice that she was already at the market again.

There the caravan finally had found a place and set up their wares like all the other merchants did.

"We may already have a lot of clients interested in some of the wares but we also have still some things people may be interested to buy.", the leader said watching the people of the caravan place the goods in a way that may make people passing by interested in looking at them.

Feyra found it quite interesting just seeing them set everything up. She stopped in her tracks for a while looking at the caravan and the leader trying to coordinate everything.

"Be careful with that! Those are porcelain items!"

"Oh those can be stacked up here!"

"These can go to the card games! They're cards themselves after all..."

Feyra watched them for a while with interest.

He knows what he is doing. I wonder what they have to sell... I should look over...

She couldn't even finish her thought as the leader looked over and seemed surprised seeing a familiar face.

"Haven't we met before already? Ah I remember now! You were the traveler waiting behind us in line. Please come over. If there is anything to your liking we can discuss over the price. We're very sorry you had to wait. Is there anything we can make it up with?", he asked bringing Feyra over to look at the goods.

She looked around a bit but didn't find anything interesting in the jewels or porcelain items.

The only thing that interested her were the card games as they reminded her of the time she spent on the ship with Buck's crew.

"Any card game you may like? We have a variety here.", he said showing some of them to her.

A few were from other places and countries but one in particular stood out to her.

Tarot...?

"What are these cards?", she asked hinting at the box with 'Tarot' on it.

The leader of the caravan went over and took one of the little boxes in his hand.

"They're... Hard to explain. People like to use them for divination but hardly anyone has fully understood their meaning. They've been around for a while now and only recently did someone seem to start understanding their meaning. Are you interested in them?"

"Yes. Tell me more."
