Chapter 25 - The real murderer

"The Father."

"He!?", Jann said not completely surprised. "I know about him and he didn't seem to be the person I would get along with in the first place... But that he... So that's why you were betrayed..."

"Isn't it said that Fallen Angels are often betrayed and that's when they turn into Fallen Angels?", Frieda asked. Jann and Feyra both nodded.

"What happened then?", she asked trying to understand how Feyra ended up in the situation as a criminal.

"Not long after that everything went black and I fell into a deep sleep I suppose... Over 700 years later I woke up again and got free before I needed to flee and came here.", Feyra finished the story and Jann seemed to be quite calm.

"As you know I've been sent there as a spy for some time. The information I gathered clearly align with your story. Some higher ups spoke of the person that they would put in the shoes of the criminal to hide the truth. It was even good for them that you became a Fallen Angel."

"I know that... Thanks to that they could say I went insane and killed Loreen.", Feyra said casting her gaze downwards. She didn't like recounting that day but if it was helping solve this case once and for all she would do so.

"But isn't the issue that the Kingdom is... You know... They won't believe that. They have their story and want you to be found guilty in a trial.", Frieda said showing there was an underlying problem with politics which prevented Feyra from just claiming innocence.

"The Kingdom is corrupted. Especially the people in their high positions. They don't want to give up any of their power so they search for a King that will allow them to continue on like this.", Jann said walking over to Feyra and patting her shoulder. "That is also likely the reason that the King and Queen had to die after their Princess had died. It's cruel but I have a feeling this Father is involved more than we might think."

Feyra was also of the opinion the Father wasn't as innocent as he made out to be. He had even tried telling Feyra she had killed Loreen.

That moment was like horror for Feyra. She knelt in front of the corpse of her beloved friend. Tears streaming down her face and her wings trying to shield Loreen from any more danger. But she was too late. Loreen couldn't be saved anymore.

"You killed her.", the Father had said to her.

"No. You did! Why did you do it?"

"Who said that? You were the one to kill her. It's all your fault."

"No... Do you even know who you're talking to!? I'm a God!", Feyra had screamed trying to intimidate the Father.

"Hm? A God? No... You're no longer a God. You're a Fallen Angel now and that's how you killed her. By becoming a Fallen Angel and going insane did you kill her.", he continued even turning his back to Feyra to look at the Capital.

On his hand was blood but no wound. This was the blood of the Princess.

"No... I am not insane... You just try to twist the tale!"

"Restrain her.", he ordered his helpers, while he continued to watch the capital.

"You were the one! Your hands have blood on them! Do you think I'm that dumb!?"

"Ah Feyra... If you had only listened to me and had stayed away from the princess you could've lived a better life. Look at all these people that have once prayed to you. You betrayed them."

"Liar! I have never betrayed them! I couldn't even act according to their prayers! Wealth? Health? Prosperity? All I bring is Destruction! I can't answer a single one of them! Do you even know how tormented I was all those years hearing how people prayed for their dying loved ones? Do you know how I felt not being able to help them!?"

"..."

"Why are you silent now? Are you like those prayers that are finally gone?"

The Father didn't answer but turned around to look at Feyra again. "You're a disgrace. You were born of the Lord's blood! How could you disgrace him so much!?"

The Lord... What a lie... He also didn't help...

"Bring her away. This criminal will be found guilty in the trial by having killed the princess of the kingdom. Now the question is just how we will punish you... A Fallen Angel doesn't die easily... You are truly a disgrace, Feyra."

"Liar... All lies!", after Feyra had said these last words everything became black around her. She had been exhausted all that time hearing these voices at any time of the day. Now everything had become quiet and she was able to rest.

Yes that day was horrible... And everyone involved got away and died peacefully... Only those who had been truly affected have been made the bad guys.

Her memories had come back a bit more clearly showing her a clearer picture of the full day.

Feyra still looked at the ground. Jann had brought her a calming tea seeing that she wasn't in the best mood and also not feeling so well.

"The church... It has always had a big place in the Kingdom... What a shame... They still think the Lord exists yet don't even know a new Lord is rising. They call it blasphemous when people say they pray to Origin who merely answers with 'Be yourself and make these decisions on your own. You are the one who leads your life and the one to decide between good and evil.'", Jann said sighing. He didn't seem pleased with how the Kingdom handled everything.

"Origin... Hah... If she could come here and help us it would be easier.", Frieda said writing down what Feyra had told them in the diary.

"And why is it now you can't get a birth certificate aside from the fact that the Kingdom thinks you're a criminal?", she asked, clearly not fully understanding it.

"I was born from the blood of a God. I have no parents to begin with.", Feyra answered emptying the mug of tea she had gotten. It had calmed her a little bit but it wouldn't suffice in the long run.

What she now wanted was to expose the Kingdom's lies and their schemes to tell the people the truth and bring back the memories of the Princess and the King and Queen who reigned the Kingdom for over 30 years.

"No parents? Born from the blood of a God? How does that work?", Frieda asked looking at Feyra.

"They had a chalice with the blood of a God that they prayed to all day and night. After some time I was born out of it. I was a baby like everyone else... At least on the outside... On the inside I was a God since birth and was also worshipped and prayed to as one. Growing up I was under the watch of the church being a God who would grant the wishes in the name of the Lord."

"Let me guess... Those were all lies.", Jann said knowing the way these people were.

"Yes. Those were lies. I was powerless and couldn't even help the sick who suffered under the plague or other disease that could be cured at an early stage.

"Medicine was blasphemy in their eyes and I could've very well been called a witch God if I helped them with medicine.", Feyra said knowing very well that this sounded ridiculous.

"I expected nothing less from them. The Kingdom... They really have no good standpoint in the world.", Jann said scratching his forehead as though he was thinking about something and not taking the Kingdom seriously.

Frieda agreed with him before continuing to write everything down.

"We'll get you a permit even without a birth certificate. We have prove that you're a Fallen Angel so that should be easy now. In a few days you should get the info that your permit is ready.", Jann said before he went out of the archive to go back to his work.

Frieda noted everything down and Feyra was still waiting. She wanted to calm down a bit before going out again.

"You really don't look well... Do you want to take a walk? I don't have a lot to do anyway now.", Frieda asked clearly seeing through Feyra.

"If that's okay... Could we go to the fountain?"

"Sure."

Frieda made another mug of tea and put it in a bottle before they headed out together to the plaza with the fountain that was in front of the archive building.

Feyra went over to it immediately and sat beside it playing with the water. Disrupting its usual flow made her think about better days and the fun of being a child.

"You seem to like that. Does this have any special reason?", Frieda asked out of curiosity sitting down next to Feyra. She wore the same green dress and hat again with the same hairstyle.

"It's calming disrupting the usual flow of the water. I used to do this with Loreen when we visited the plaza in the Kingdom. She was the one who told me to try it out. Later I also did so with buckets of water when I couldn't go anywhere else.", Feyra said sinking into memories again. The old days she remembered were better than the later days shortly before Loreen's death.

"You are childhood friends then. It must be nice to have a childhood friend... Well as long as they're alive."

"Loreen and I met very often. She liked to come and picnic on the hill where the shrine was. And I liked the company. I didn't get to see children often that I could play with. Most of them were there to pray and they looked up to me. Only the Princess once snuck away and found me in the garden. She didn't seem to mind that I was a God. She just treated me like a normal child.", Feyra continued talking about the old days still moving the water with her hand. It was cool and refreshing other than the sun that was shining intensely and warmed one up very fast.

"When I was young... I don't remember a lot from my childhood but I know that my parents had always took me out to walk around the city. Since it is like a labyrinth it was like a playground. Parents hated it trying to find their children but they would often find us on the middle plaza which is not far away from here. It's like a park with multiple fountains.", Frieda said pointing with her right hand to a park.

"Do you want to go there?", Feyra asked and Frieda nodded.

They both went over and found a place in the shade near a fountain where Feyra started playing with the water again.

"Whenever we were here our parents shook their heads. They had to go through showing their permits while children had free entry. It was funny but now as an adult I can fully understand why our parents hated it.", Frieda said with a smile.

"We are so far apart from age but we both have had a childhood with good memories.", Feyra said, clearly knowing she could think much further on even such a small matter.

"What do you want to do now?", Frieda asked knowing Feyra had already told them everything important to the case.

"I'll travel and find more information on the Princess and this case. Then I want to sow discord in the Kingdom revealing the truth and bringing back memories long forgotten. And at the end... At the end I'll fulfill a promise I had once made a long long time ago.", Feyra looked up to the crowns of the trees which were now moving slightly with the wind that was coming. It was a calming scene and Frieda looked at Feyra with interest.

"What promise did you make?"
