Chapter 14 - Down Time

After Cynthia had rested a bit the sun was already going down. "I guess my hypothesis about the day night cycle was correct." Cynthia thought "in hind sight I probably could've asked that ancestor of Sebas.". Cynthia, thinking about her most loyal subordinate, decided to check what he was doing through her connection with him. What she saw was rather shocking. What she saw was a black fog covering his black forelegs. His usual glossy black legs looked more dull than usual and he was trying to fill one of the old clay dolls from back during the beast tide. "A reward for servant Sebas based on his nature and current activities has been suggested by the world! Will you grant servant Sebas the skill Necromancy?". "Do it. I want to see what happens. Moreover this seems like something Sebas would want."

Just then the fog that Sebas was controlling grew in quantity and began moving of its own accord. The clay doll began to kneel to him without Sebas doing anything. As this was happening Sebas felt a shift in himself, as if he was achieving his true calling. A nature that fit his species but precious little possessed. He had succeeded in his research of which he had been experimenting since the beast tide ended and he got the materials he needed. He knew he was nowhere near this success but he felt that the world granted him the right to use the dead as he wished which must have been the wall he could not clear.

"Given your current needs the world has collaborated with the system to give you a new reward." said a new blue window "would you like to continue to receive a small warehouse?". "Sure why not. I am in need of more storage space.". She immediately felt pain. Although it wasn't nearly as much as the beast pearl of the xingxing it was still incredibly uncomfortable. The weird part was where the pain was located. It felt as if a small part of her beast pearl was being hollowed out. The pain lasted for about half an hour. "Congratulations a world has been formed inside of your beast pearl!" said another window. "A what has what?!" said Cynthia, entirely lost by a single sentence. "Tip: high tier beings in this realm have worlds inside their energy centers! For beasts they have worlds inside of their beast pearls and for humans they have worlds inside of their dantians. This process usually only happens after they have condensed their energy enough to form the building block of existence out of their energy but there are many processes that can create livable space inside one's energy center ahead of time!". "Why do you only tell me the important stuff after it happens!" said Cynthia practically screaming at the window in front of her. "Whatever, this is a good thing and it didn't hurt all that much." Cynthia sighed while sighing. This action, like most of her actions, looked rather cute in a child-like body.

Cynthia, looking for a change of pace, tried out creating different textures with her stigma. She tried things similar to things she had seen in this world first. She made the stigma resemble the human face spiders by making a shiny black carapace but like that of a black widow from her previous world and then pictured instead of a red hourglass on the abdomen she made a face of anguish and pain. She tried making the legs but she couldn't decide on which growth stage to portray so she just did them all. In the baby stage the legs aren't super dangerous but if used right on low level beasts whether it be bloodline or growth stage they can be formidable with a signature barbed spikey tip. In the juvenile stage the tip of the legs get sharper and less barbed but they aren't much more dangerous than the babies even with the changes. The adolescent stage is where it gets deadly beyond reason. The sharpness is all that the front legs are meant for. They aren't for walking, they are for taking life like the grim reapers scythe itself. Adolescent human face spiders are no longer ambush predators with some exceptions they are full on vanguard worthy soldiers capable of cleaving any mundane armor in twain with ease. Portraying the sharpness from only memory was hard for Cynthia. Eventually she gave up without seeing Sebas again although she thought that he may be an exceptional specimen in that particular aspect so she might just observe Hera too. In this same vein she really thought about the face she made and she realized it was very skewed towards what an adult human face spider should look like. Every human face spider had a unique face on their abdomen. This face grew in age as they grew in age. A baby human face spider would have a crying baby on its abdomen and a juvenile may have a child's face painted in fear. She still needed more information on how these aspects looked and resolved herself to pay better attention to her subordinates' appearances.

Once she was done playing around with her stigma she looked back into what Sebas had been doing. By the time Cynthia checked back in with what Sebas was doing he had already raised a number of clay dolls and was now attempting to raise one of the minimally damaged xingxing corpses. He succeeded but it was much more difficult than the dolls. Cynthia felt him hypothesize that the reason for this may be that even though the world gave him permission the residual consciousness of the body didn't accept him as its master. Sebas succeeded after a few more moments but unlike the doll it did not bow, it simply looked on with hollow eyes. Sebas theorized that the reason for this was that the xingxing he had raised from the dead was sentient when it had died but the soul had passed on. It could do simple things but couldn't do any complicated actions. "If it doesn't have a soul, I'll just give it one!" Thought Sebas, happily enjoying his research. He then brought in one of the souls. Unfortunately, even through the connection, Cynthia still couldn't see the souls. She resolved herself to drink some xingxing blood later. The soul entered the body and Cynthia could feel a new connection being made by the system. Sebas then took the newly made zombie with the soul of a human face spider out of his assigned quarters and brought it to the throne room. "My lady, I request an audience!" said Sebas. "Come in," replied Cynthia. "My lady I can feel your apprehension of what to do with the xingxings and I have a solution!" said Sebas "Take this one as one of your retainers and have him govern the xingxings!". "That is an excellent idea, Sebas!" said Cynthia "I will transfer the connection to myself.". "My lady, allow me to introduce myself" said the xingxing zombie "I was once the head advisor to the human face spider lord candidate. I am the one that most often conferred with Sebas and I am the one who gave you the common knowledge of the beast market.". "Oooh, Sebas I applaud your choice! I've wanted to converse with this ancestor of yours for a long while now!" said Cynthia.

"If I may pose a suggestion." Inquired the zombie. "Of course! You have been an extremely valuable source of information and guidance!" said Cynthia so excited to hear the suggestion that she was squirming in her seat "before I forget Sebas, you may return to your research if you so please.". "Yes my lady!" Sebas said while eagerly walking back to his quarters. "I believe with how many beast pearls you collected It may be better to visit the gathering sect market instead of the beast market!" said the zombie. "Is the gathering sect market a human market?" inquired Cynthia. "Very astute of you my lady!" Replied the zombie "although it is primarily a human market every race is allowed entry as long as they follow the rules, even beasts and demons who are known for having frequent conflict with humans.". "What are the rules?" said Cynthia cautiously remembering the rather barbaric rules of the beast market. "Rule 1 is that all use of force be it physical, mental, or soul is strictly forbidden outside of mutually agreed upon duels." said the zombie rather smugly because he knew this was what Cynthia was looking for. "Next is that all prices must reflect the value of the item." Continued the xingxing "There can be haggling within reason but there cannot be any threats to make the price lower". "Lastly all sales must also be mutually agreed upon by both parties at the exact price point of the final exchange." said the zombie "this means that an agreement to sell at a certain price is not an agreement to sell at a lower price.". "Those are the 3 rules. They are enforced by all 3 major forces in the area to make sure nobody, even in a major sect, breaks them.".
