Chapter 15: Evil Esper Jae Sin
I looked at the thick alloy layers of this underground basement, dense as if concrete had been poured, and could not help but admire the level of investment in Area A. Area D does not have any SS-rank Esper, so there is no need to invest in building a place to confine an SS Esper during an outburst like this.
Ordinary alloys are completely incapable of blocking the power of an Esper, so scientists have researched many kinds of materials in order to limit the destructive force of their abilities.
Many years of research allowed them to discover a material capable of resisting the powerful energy flows of Espers. When this material is incorporated into carefully engineered alloys, the strongest alloy has been created, one that can block every kind of energy wave, even those of an SS-rank Esper.
"This is terrifying… He really is a monster."
"Spare me, I do not want to see hell ever again."
"Go find a Fate Guide for him already. Do not keep tormenting ordinary Guides like us anymore…"
Along the way, we saw many Guides lying down or slumped weakly on rest chairs, their complexions sallow and withered. Some had even fainted and were being helped away by medical staff.
Cha Cha probably also felt that the scene was frightening. She glanced around, then turned to look at me timidly.
Cha Cha said, "Whenever Esper Jae Sin goes into an outburst, is it always like this?"
Stephen scratched the bridge of his nose. He himself likely found this scene strange and terrifying as well.
"Actually, he is not as scary as everyone thinks."
I could tell that Stephen could not explain this clearly, so I sighed inwardly and explained it for him.
"When an SS-rank Esper enters a semi-outburst state, they cannot control the guidance of their own energy. It spreads outward indiscriminately and can accidentally injure ordinary people. Some energy streams instinctively bypass Guides, but some do not distinguish between allies and enemies."
Stephen nodded repeatedly, then continued speaking to defend the Esper under his care.
"Esper Jae Sin may be a bit insane, but when he is conscious, he does not harm anyone without reason. It is just that in such a poor state, Esper Jae Sin can even injure himself, and Esper Jae Hyo cannot always be present to keep the situation under control."
How pitiful. I felt sympathy for Stephen.
It was probably because of Jae Sin that he had endured countless looks of hatred and fear from Guides of other regional headquarters who came to assist with this troublesome Jae Sin.
Although I did not say it outright, I had to admit that Jae Sin was not an especially likable person.
"Hyung, is Esper Jae Hyo very strong? I feel like everyone admires him, and he can easily restrain an SS-rank Esper like Esper Jae Sin."
Jo Hyun looked at me curiously and asked,
"Then what is Esper Jae Hyo's ability? Is it really powerful?"
I nodded at Jo Hyun and was about to answer, but seeing the confidence in those innocent eyes made me decide to keep this to myself for now.
"You will know when you meet him."
Jae Hyo's ability was something truly hard to believe. Experiencing it firsthand would be a good lesson for Jo Hyun.
"Hyung?"
I smiled and ruffled Jo Hyun's messy hair.
"When the time comes, do not cry, Jo Hyun."
After going deep inside, there were no Guides left here. Only a room remained, with a massive black iron metal door, filled with the oppressive presence of metal and danger.
Stephen stepped forward to scan his fingerprint and retina, and then the door slowly opened.
"This is amazing… Compared to this place, our headquarters really feels like second-hand goods…"
Cha Cha whispered to Lee Do Ha beside her. Lee Do Ha did not reply, but his eyes were filled with agreement. It was not that Jena lacked money, but the level of investment between the two regions was completely different.
"This is the observation room. It is protected by reinforced alloy glass. It is used to observe the condition of Esper Jae Sin and the Guides who enter to provide Guiding for him, and also to be ready to protect everyone if a problem suddenly occurs."
Stephen introduced it to me and the other Guides.
