Chapter 1 - Another chance

Klyde layed under a large oak tree, unconscious, blanketed by tree's shade and outfitted in a mechanical combat suit.

His eyelid slowly rose, uncovering his red pupils. Klyde looked at his surroundings, his vision, but a blur. He moved his hands into his view, his vision adjusting before fixing it self.

"Am I… in another world…?"

—— Earlier - Underground Military Base. ——

Metallic bootsteps echoed along the grey steel hallway as they made as two soldiers, Klyde and Kaya made way to a door ahead. Both were equipped with mechanical armour, using advanced technology.

Klyde's amour was mainly black with red accents. It was more heavily armoured around the chest, shoulders, forearms and forelegs. Red sleek katanas inside sheets attached to both his thighs. And a long, bulky railgun was attached underneath his left forearm.

Kaya's armour, though similar to Klyde's was far bulkier. His legs where stilted and the amour had thrusters at the feet. Both forearm had machine guns attached and a gun connected to the back resting over his shoulders.

"Ay Klyde, what do you think we're being called for this time?" Kaya asked Klyde.

"Most likely a mission. Or a report on the suits performance." Klyde answered in a formal manner.

' Great, he's talking like that again. ' Kaya sighed, fogging up his suit's visor. "Yeah, these prototype suits are good and all but I want to go back to piloting mechs. They aren't strong enough to take down other mechs."

The door ahead opened as they approached and they entered the room. Inside the room, were multiple work stations occupied by people with lab coats, a large screen at the back and a cylindrical table at the centre with a holographic screen above it.

Behind the table was a bearded man wearing a navy blue jacket with 2 medals underneath his overcoat which had red accents as well as a peaked cap with the same pallette as his overcoat.

"Greetings, General." Klyde as as he saluted.

"Sup chief." Said Kaya in a non-carring tone.

The general simply chuckled off Kaya's behavior, as he was already familiar with it.

"You two made it, I see. I called you two 2 here for a mission."

"Of course you did." Kaya huffed as he took off his helmet, revealing his dark toned skin and short black dreadlocks. "What is it exactly?"

"Central HQ has sent orders to assist Base B-5 with delivering their latest tech breakthrough."

"B-5? What base is that exactly?" Kaya asked.

"It's our neighboring base. The one that was recently attacked." Klyde answered him. "And I assume we're being sent there because B-5 is understaffed and we're the closest there."

"Precisely. Sharp as ever Klyde. Unlike one of my soldiers." The general said while glaring at Kaya.

"And what's that supposed to mean, exactly?" Kaya crossed his arms.

"We all know you're as dense as a brick, Kaya." One of the female scientist, Lizzie aid as the approached the table. She had short blonde hair and wore glasses. She was also holding a tablet against her stomach.

"Meanie…" Kaya pouted, crossing his arms.

"Aww. Little baby can't handle a bit of teasing?" Lizzie giggled.

The general cleared his throat. "Could you two not do this here? Anyways, since you two are the best squard leaders we have, we'll send you with 4 men each. You'll also go with your assault mechs."

"And why can't the top dogs from Arico bases do it themselves?" Kaya asked

"A-1, 3 and 5 have already been sent to attack the nation. And the others are curren occupied with *other* matters so ours makes the most sense." Klyde answered.

Then, suddenly, the lights in the room started flashing red. All movement stopped.

«Warning, warning. Unknown object approaching base at high velocity.»

"H-huh?" Lizzie stuttered upon heari6 the warning. She clutched her tablet tightly, her hands trembling.

"Whatever's coming is either a bomb or a mech rig. Either way, everyone's gonna have to evacuate." Said the general. "You two! Get on your rigs. I'll tell the soldiers to g-" A loud thud cut off the general, the roof over them shaking.

"The object landed. Which means it's a rig." Klyde said, remaining calm despite they're situation.

"Klyde, let's go already!" Kaya yelled at him as he was running out the room.

Then suddenly, a white metallic fist bursted through the ceiling, crushing the general and Lizzy who where under it. It tore up the ceiling as it pulled back it's arm, leaving a puddle of blood on the floor.

Kaya froze as he heard the sound from the fist. He slowly turned around to see Klyde, starring down on the pool of blood as it seeped to his foot.

Klyde stood there, his breath

"K-klyde… Calm down o-okay…" Kaya raised his hand at him, but pulled it back upon seeing it's shaking.

Red lights unders the plating of Klyde's suit lit up as it releases some gas.

"Combat mode… Module Set overdrive…"

Immediately klyde rushed to the hole and jumped out at lightning speeds. In the air he saw the mech. A humanoid sleek model with a white base and pink accents 7.5 meters [25 feet] tall.

"I'LL KILL YOU!" He yells as he landed to the ground.

He then aimed his rain cannon towards the mechs head. A barrage of energy bullets fired at the mech. The mech crossed it's arms over its head to block the barrage, taking visible damage on it's arm plating.

2 missiles shot out of the mechs shoulders, flying towards Klyde. Kyle stopped his barrage and ran to his left while his cannon started charging.

He jumped forwards, dodging the missiles and narrowly missing the explosion radius of the missiles.

Klyde stopped then immediately fired a large beam from rail cannon. The mech dodged to the right but it's right hand still got caught in the blast, getting torn off from the mech.

Klyde started charged another beam, running towards the mech. The mech raised it's hand and before he could react, the fist landed in front of him, destroying the ground below him and exposing more of the underground base.

Klyde fell into the base, getting covered by the rubble. The mech fired another 2 missiles at him.

Klyde heard the sound of missiles approaching. He tried pushing the rubble over his chest, but there was too much covering.

"I can't die here!" He yelled as he pushed with all his might and as he felt a bit of progress…

*BOOM!

The missiles exploded, destroying the area Klyde was buried.

Klyde opened his eyes, finding himself floating in a white void, his armour gone. His red hair and eyes, scars all over his muscular body, all exposed.

A white humanoid figure appeared in front of him.

"You must me the unfortunate human. Klyde was it?"

"Where am I… W-what happened"

"Long story short you everyone at your base died and apparently you're the lucky to get to here."

Klyde's eyes widened in horror. He clutched his head, eyes tearing up. Memories flooding back. His fight with the mech. How the general and Lizzy died in front of him. And how he failed to protect everyone else in the base.

"T-then why am I here?!" Klyde yelled.

"I'm sending you to another world. You're one of the few lucky ones that get took keep their memory. Start a new life or whatever… I don't care."

"They… They meant everything to me… the only people that accepted me and I FAILED THEM!" Klyde started breaking down.

"I'm guessing you mean those 3"

"All I could do was watch them die! And I couldn't even avenge them! I don't deserve to live…"

The figure sighed… "Geez, I hate your type… Since you can't like with your friends so bad how about this. I need you to conquer and island in 2 months and in return you'll get to revive your friends."

"Revive…them?"

"But if you can't do so within the time limit… Your fate with be far worse than mere death. Now you up for it or should I curse you to live as a snail"

Klyde gulped, wiping the tears off his face.

"I can bring them back then I'll do it."
