"What exactly are you doing?!" Touko Aozaki whispered to Jibril from the branch. She had thought Jibril was taking her away, yet here they were hiding in a tree—and apparently targeting her friend, Misaki City's witch, Yuzuha Kuonji.
"Master's orders." Jibril smiled, then put on a lecherous grin. "A system I've never seen—this thing you call magecraft? Weak, but fascinating."
Touko's face darkened. The awe-inspiring being she couldn't even look at a moment ago had turned into a drooling pervert; the change was too much for her to accept.
"Oops, so sorry." Noticing her loss of composure, Jibril quickly wiped the saliva from her lips and returned to her usual self. Smiling at Touko, she said, "My apologies, Miss Touko Aozaki, for letting you see that."
"It's… fine," Touko answered hastily.
"Your being fine is irrelevant. I, however, have a problem." Jibril's smile vanished. "Letting you see that was a mistake. When you're of no use to Master, may I kill you, Miss Aozaki? Then only Master would know."
Touko gave an awkward laugh and said nothing, already planning her escape. She had to run—this madwoman meant every word. The instant Touko became useless, Jibril would kill her without hesitation.
Jibril said no more. Her smile returned, and she vanished from Touko's side, startling her. Even having seen it once, Touko was still astonished: no hint of mana, yet something like spatial magecraft—no, something greater—had been used.
While Touko was still thinking, Jibril reappeared, carrying the unconscious girl from the ground.
"Is Yuzuha all right?" Touko asked; after all, they were friends.
"Don't worry, I only knocked her out." Jibril looked troubled. "But her body's so fragile I accidentally broke a few bones just doing that."
"What?!"
"I should've used another method. I wonder if Master will blame me," Jibril fretted.
Touko's mouth twitched. "Don't you have any healing abilities?"
"Oh!" Jibril brightened. "I've always hunted Giants, Dragonkind, Phantasmal Species—used something like heavenly weapons. I've only ever healed myself; I don't know if it works on you."
Giants? Dragons? Phantasmal Species? Hunts them? Just who is this woman?! Touko stared hard at Jibril, certain now she was someone terrifying—and began to guess at her true identity.
"All right, Miss Aozaki, let's go." Still holding Yuzuha Kuonji, Jibril took Touko's hand without healing the girl, and the three vanished instantly.
"Master, I'm back!" Jibril appeared in a dilapidated building, cheerfully calling out. She tossed Yuzuha Kuonji to the stunned Touko and darted into a room.
This is my own hideout! So the "Master" is that old monster? Touko realized. Only someone like that could have a servant this terrifying.
"Koichi, get down—your drool's on me!"
"Hehe, Master's scent."
Hearing that, Touko's face darkened. She set Yuzuha down and walked inside.
"Would you care to explain?" Touko demanded of Asagami Fujino, who was entangled with Jibril. "What is going on?"
Fujino pushed Jibril away and said coolly, "I only sent Koichi to help you bring back that wolf."
Touko opened her mouth, then closed it again, saying nothing.
"Now then, prepare to open my Magic Circuits," Fujino told Touko, then turned to Jibril: "Koichi, go hunt a few magi. Don't let anyone see you."
"Ugh, why hunt such worthless prey?" Jibril drooped, reluctant.
Fujino leaned to Jibril's ear and whispered something; Jibril's eyes lit up.
"Master, really?!"
Fujino nodded. "Go."
"Yes!" With a shout, Jibril vanished.
After she left, Touko asked curiously, "Where did you get an angel—or familiar—like that?"
Fujino gave her an odd look. "Because of you."
"Because of me? What do you mean?" Touko pressed, but Fujino offered no further answer.
The truth was: Jibril's arrival in this world was tied to Touko. When Fujino defeated the golden wolf, the system had awarded a lottery chance for beating a non-host Phantasmal Species. The prize pool held treasures, elixirs, abilities, arts, people, even inheritances from every world—and Fujino drew Jibril. The system set Fujino as Jibril's master and adjusted the angel's memories accordingly.
