Synopsis
Bulma Starch, a 16-year-old junior researcher, has her back against the wall. Intellectually disinherited and under the shadow of her father's academic disgrace, she bets everything on the radar she developed to prove that Brief Starch wasn't crazy: the seven anomalous signals he studied are real. Her search leads her to the hostile Wontonka zone, where her scientific logic clashes head-on with Goku, a mountain boy who just wants to protect his grandfather's legacy. The two end up joining forces on a bizarre journey in search of the seven dragon balls.

Chapter 1 - Prologue

They claim that, scattered around the globe, there are seven Dragon Balls.

Each of them holds inside the red light of the stars, as if it were longing to enthrall those who are brave enough to touch them.

No one knows for sure who made them. What is known… is that they never remain together for long.

Kings, warriors, and even entire civilizations have risen and fallen in the pursuit of them, only to learn what happens when all seven are gathered together.

The ability to make any wish come true is a temptation for the noblest of souls as well as the darkest of hearts.

And as the world turns on, the Dragon Balls remain. silent and scattered. waiting for those who will challenge their fate.

...

"That's a fairy tale. And a poorly written one at that."

A blue-haired child was in bed, and the room was filled with the luxurious comfort of plush furnishings.

"You really are hard to impress, Miss Starch."

A caretaker was holding a children's storybook, she was sitting near the child.

"Seven spheres that can rewrite reality? Please. What is the logic behind that mechanism? Does a ball genie simply pop out to serve you?"

"It's a dragon, a majestic dragon and—"

"Dragons don't exist."

"Maybe they do."

"I have read the zoological archives. I know they don't."

The caretaker let out a sigh and put down the picture book she had been reading.

She sat in a velvet armchair beside the bed and tried to smile.

"Let's pretend they do. What would you wish for, Bulma?"

"What does my answer add to this conversation?"

"It adds the illusion that you are actually six years old, come on. Don't you want to be something when you grow up?"

Bulma examined the cover of the book, then turned her attention back to the caretaker.

"Are the parameters unlimited? Can I wish for anything?"

"Anything."

"Then I would like to record the incident. I would show that such a scientifically impossible phenomenon exists, and thus, I would be the greatest scientist in the world."

"Wait. Your wish... is just the proof itself?"

"If they existed, obviously. Think about it. I already possess everything material. Father is the richest man alive. My intellect is already superior. The only challenge left would be convincing a planet of ignorant people that I found a magic dragon."

The caretaker opened her mouth to argue, but the words died in her throat. There was no counter-argument.

"Right, let's leave it at that, Miss Starch. Go to sleep."

"Good night."
