Chapter 24 - Chapter 9: The Pale Assassin

The dust from the shattered probes hadn't even settled on the white sand before the air in the Echo Chamber turned cold. It wasn't the cool, earthy chill of the cave; it was a sterile, artificial frost.

"Zayn," Liora whispered, her hand tightening on her staff. "Do not move. He is already in the room."

Zayn kept the black cloth tied over his eyes. His breathing was shallow, his heart beating like a slow, heavy drum. He expanded his Spatial Map, sending out microscopic pulses of Qi that bounced off the walls, the pool, and Liora.

And then, he felt it. A "hole" in the air.

Ten feet to his right, there was a space where the vibrations didn't return. It was a silhouette of absolute silence.

"You've grown quite the set of ears for a peasant," a voice drifted from the void.

A man shimmered into existence. He was tall, gaunt, and dressed in silver-scaled armor that looked like moonlight captured in metal. He held a thin, curved needle-blade that hummed with a high-frequency whistle. This was Kylo of the Pale Moon, a High-Sect Seeker.

"I am Kylo," the assassin said, his voice dripping with bored arrogance. "I was sent to collect the scrap metal you left of the Captain. I didn't expect to find the 'Planet-Seed' playing hide-and-seek with a blind woman."

"He's not playing," Liora said, her voice like iron.

Zayn didn't speak. He shifted his weight, his bare feet sinking into the white sand. Through his Echo-Location, he could sense Kylo's pulse. It was fast—efficient. Kylo wasn't afraid; he was eager.

"A blindfold? Truly?" Kylo laughed, a sharp, barking sound. "You think you're a master because you can hit a floating tin can? I move faster than sound, boy. You'll be dead before the vibration of my first step even reaches your toes."

Kylo moved.

To a normal eye, he would have been a blur. To Zayn's Spatial Map, he was a series of displaced air currents.

Kylo lunged, his needle-blade aiming for the gap between Zayn's collarbone and his heart. It was a "Void-Tipped" strike, designed to bypass physical armor.

Zayn didn't dodge. He pivoted three inches to the left.

The blade whistled past his ear, cutting a single strand of hair.

Kylo's eyes widened behind his silver mask. He spun, unleashing a flurry of thirteen stabs in under two seconds. Thrust. Slash. Heart. Throat. Lung.

Zayn danced through the storm. He didn't use the explosive power of his Internal Burn. He moved with the fluidity of water, his body reacting to the "pressure" of the blade before it even arrived.

"Stop... moving!" Kylo hissed. He slammed his palm against the ground. [Technique: Pale Moon Flash].

A blinding, supernova-level burst of white light erupted from Kylo's body. It was an assassin's trump card, designed to permanently blind anyone looking at him.

Zayn didn't even flinch. Behind the black cloth, his eyes remained closed.

"The light doesn't work," Zayn said, his voice a low-frequency growl that made the water in the pool ripple. "I stopped looking at you a long time ago."

Zayn stepped inside Kylo's guard.

[TECHNIQUE ACTIVATED: POINT-RESONANCE - TECTONIC SPIKE]

Zayn didn't punch Kylo's armor. He touched the center of the assassin's chest with two fingers.

THUMP.

It wasn't a loud sound. It was a deep, bone-shaking vibration. The frequency traveled through the silver scales, ignored the "Void-Shields," and found the resonant frequency of Kylo's sternum.

Kylo froze. His eyes bulged. "What... did you..."

CRACK.

The assassin's chest plate didn't break outward; it imploded. The vibration turned Kylo's ribcage into a spray of shrapnel that fired inward, shredding his lungs and heart instantly.

Kylo tumbled backward, hitting the white sand with a dull thud. Blood, dark and thick, began to stain the pristine grains.

[SKILL MASTERY: POINT-RESONANCE (STAGE 2)]

Zayn pulled the blindfold off. His amber eyes flickered with a new, terrifying coldness. He looked down at the dead Seeker, then at his own hands. They weren't shaking.

"The Sects won't stop at one Seeker," Liora said, walking over to the body. She didn't look sad; she looked prepared. "Kylo was the scout. The 'Moon-Hunters' will be here by dawn."

"Let them come," Zayn said. He turned toward the pool, the orange light of his veins beginning to pulse in time with the mountain's heart. "I'm done hiding in the dark. If they want this planet, I'll make them bury their whole Sect in it."

Zayn reached into the pool and pulled out a jagged piece of the assassin's silver blade. He didn't throw it away. He squeezed it, his Internal Burn heating the metal until it softened. He began to wrap the silver around his knuckles, forging a new weapon in the palm of his hand.

"Liora," Zayn said, his voice echoing with the weight of the world. "Show me the way out. It's time to go to the surface."
