Chapter 20 - Chapter 5: The Weight of the Void

The blast doors didn't just open; they were deleted.

Zayn's shoulder-check sent three tons of reinforced Sky-Steel flying into the Bridge like a frisbee. The metal whistled through the air, decapitating a navigation officer before burying itself halfway into the main viewscreen.

Zayn stepped through the smoke. He was a nightmare in human skin. His clothes were shredded, his chest was a map of burns and frostbite, and his eyes were glowing with a frantic, unstable crimson light.

"Vane!" Zayn bellowed, his voice vibrating the very glass in the command consoles.

At the center of the Bridge, standing on a platform of pure white jade, was Captain Aris.

He didn't look like the others. He wasn't wearing flowing silks or arrogant jewelry. He wore matte-black tactical armor and held a single, straight-edged blade that seemed to drink the light in the room. Beside him, Vane was clutching his shattered ribs, his face twisted in a mask of pure, humiliated hatred.

"Captain," Vane wheezed. "That's him. That's the... the thing."

Aris didn't look at Vane. He looked at Zayn with the clinical detachment of a butcher looking at a cow.

"You've caused three billion credits of damage to High-Sect property," Aris said. His voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the ship's alarms like a razor. "You've murdered forty-two Tier-1 soldiers. And for what? A village of dirt-scrapers who will be dead of old age in fifty years anyway?"

"They're my people," Zayn said, his fingers twitching. "And this is my world. You're just a parasite with a big boat."

"Parasite?" Aris tilted his head. "We are the gardeners. We prune the weeds so the universe can bloom. And you, boy, are a very thorny weed."

Aris didn't "move." One second he was ten feet away, and the next, he was in Zayn's personal space.

[WARNING: HIGH-SPEED KINETIC STRIKE]

[THREAT LEVEL: GOD-KILLER]

The black blade flashed. Zayn had less than a microsecond to react. He used Point-Resonance to harden the air in front of his throat.

CLANG.

The sound wasn't metal on metal; it was metal on reality. The black blade sliced through Zayn's hardened Qi shield like it was wet paper. The edge caught Zayn across the chest, carving a deep, jagged line from shoulder to hip.

[CRITICAL WOUND: VOID-BLEED ACTIVATED]

Zayn stumbled back, his blood hitting the floor—but it didn't look like blood. It looked like liquid starlight. The black blade was enchanted with Void-Qi, a power that ate away at the soul itself.

"You're fast," Aris noted, his blade humming. "But you're disconnected. You have no Earth-Qi here. You're just a battery running out of juice."

Aris lunged again. A flurry of stabs followed. Left. Right. Throat. Heart. Zayn moved like a beast, twisting and kontorting his body, but the blade was everywhere. Every nick, every shallow cut felt like a freezing needle being driven into his spirit.

"I don't... need... the Earth..." Zayn panted, his vision blurring.

"Liar," Aris sneered. He landed a kick in Zayn's gut that sent him flying into the Galleon's Primary Power Pylon.

Zayn's back hit the humming glass tube that held the ship's Lightning Core. The electricity arced through his body, causing his muscles to spasm.

[SYSTEM OVERHEATING]

"Look at you," Vane mocked from the sidelines. "The 'Living Planet' is dying on a glass pole. Once the Captain takes your core, I'm going to go back down to your village and burn every single person you know while they watch."

That was the mistake.

In the dark, scorched corners of Zayn's mind, the Internal Burn didn't just flare—it collapsed in on itself. Like a star turning into a black hole, his rage stopped being a fire and became a Gravity.

THUMP.

The entire ship groaned.

THUMP.

"What was that?" Aris paused, his blade held high. "The engines?"

"No," Zayn whispered. He wasn't looking at Aris. He was looking at the Lightning Core behind him. "The Ship-Shaker."

Zayn didn't reach for the Earth. He reached for the Ship.

He didn't try to draw the lightning into his body. He forced his own Seismic Frequency into the core.

[TRAIT ACTIVATED: SHIP-SHAKER]

[FORCED SYNC: 100% (FATAL RISK)]

"You want to see a weed?" Zayn's skin began to crack, but instead of amber light, it was white-hot lightning pouring out of his pores. "I'm the weed that breaks the foundation."

Zayn slammed his hands onto the Power Pylon.

[PLANETARY RESONANCE: STAGE 2 - MANTLE FLOW (ACCELERATED)]

The stage 2 power—the ability to turn matter into a fluid state—usually required years of cultivation. Zayn did it in a second through pure, primal spite.

The spirit-metal floor of the Bridge didn't just vibrate. It melted.

The jade dais, the control consoles, the weapons—everything within thirty feet of Zayn turned into a swirling, glowing river of molten Sky-Steel and raw electricity.

"What have you done?!" Aris screamed. He tried to fly, but the air itself had become a thick, electrified soup of molten metal.

"I changed the rules," Zayn growled.

He stepped off the pylon. He wasn't walking on the floor; he was walking on the magma. Every step he took sent a ripple of white-hot destruction through the Bridge.

Zayn reached out a hand. A stream of molten metal rose from the floor like a cobra, wrapping around Aris's black blade and instantly welding the Captain's hand to the hilt.

"Let... go!" Aris panicked. He unleashed a Void-Wave, but the sheer mass of the ship's melting core was too much. The heat evaporated the vacuum.

Zayn moved. He wasn't a man anymore. He was a Current.

He appeared in front of Aris, his hand glowing like a miniature sun. He didn't punch. He placed a palm on Aris's chest.

"Mantle Flow: The Core's Rejection."

Zayn dumped the entire power of the ship's lightning core through his palm and into Aris's lungs.

The Captain didn't even have time to scream. His black armor turned white, then yellow, then vaporized. The "Peak-Stage" warrior was reduced to ash in a heartbeat, his soul-blade shattered into a thousand useless shards of glass.

Vane watched in horror as the molten river turned toward him. "Wait! I can give you titles! I can give you gold! I—"

Zayn didn't even look at him. He just flicked a finger. A glob of molten Sky-Steel hit Vane in the mouth, silencing him forever.

[LEVEL UP: 24 -> 28]

[QUEST COMPLETE: DEFEND THE SOURCE]

[WARNING: SHIP INTEGRITY AT 5%]

[SHIP STATUS: TERMINAL DESCENT]

The Bridge exploded.

The Cloud-Galleon, its core shattered and its hull a liquid mess, finally lost its battle with gravity. It didn't fall; it screamed. The massive vessel tilted forward, a five-hundred-ton spear of burning metal and lightning, aiming directly for the forests of Oakhaven.

Zayn stood in the center of the falling wreckage, looking out through the shattered viewscreen at the world rushing up to meet him.

"Hold on, Oakhaven," Zayn whispered, his body finally failing as he slipped into unconsciousness. "The world is coming home."
