Chapter 2 - 1. The Life of an Unguilded Merchant

After I made it through a few alleyways , I was able to lose the male classmate that was trying to team up with me.

Now that I was alone by myself , I made my way from the back alleyways of the city to The Vanguard's market. This area was an area where you had to prove your eye identification as guardian to enter.Because of all of these special weapons and armor that they sold here were used to exterminate the demons on the other side of the portals that we were true to investigate.

The closest entrance to the market was a brick wall that was in the back of an alleyway. It looked like an ordinary brick wall to anyone else, but as I pulled a madame from my purse and put it on the wall, the brick started to shift to reveal an opening that I could pass through.

I quickly went through the opening, and it closed behind me, and as I did so that someone else could not enter without the appropriate credentials.

The market had all kinds of stalls with vendors , selling things ranging from energy weapons to sniper rifles

to auto rifles to light padding, and also heavy plated armor.

There were even more items of melee variety. They ranged from curved blades, to katanas, axes, and hammers.

I only have five thousand Cp to spare on my starting gear, so I had to choose my weapons and gear wisely.

The first thing I wanted to look at would be medical or support items since I was planning to do this on my own without any aid from another person.

After looking around for aboutten minutes, I finally found a store that sold medical and support items but it was in a very dark back alley because most parties always had someone doing the support role.

The store that I found was small and compact with shelves of a variety of injections and even some buffing items on the walls.

It was clear to me that this shop was at least very old if not possibly out of date and I thought of leaving almost as soon as I got inside of it.

"Welcome to my shop. How may I help you , young lady". A very old woman send you want up to the front counter using her cane to stabilize herself.

"I am looking for medical supplies because I am not planning to have a support or healer.Join my group for my first visit through the portals." I said to her as I closed the distance that was between us so that she didn't have to speak so loudly and so she could hear me easier.

"I do have some items that might help you, but they are not as high quality as the ones that you find in the more frequently visited areas of the market. What did this?Because I actually make the items myself for the most part rather than buying them from a corporation. I hope that's not a platform for you dearie." She said to me as she opened a glass case at had containers of medicine.

"I would be fine with getting items that are not made by corporations because I need to stretch my money as much as I possibly can".

"I understand that missy. Let me see what I can do to help you.Stretch your money as much as you possibly can." The old lady said as she started to wobble back to the rear room of her shop.

Then I inhaled smoke as a tall and wealthy dressed man that was smoking a cigar entered the shop.

The man pushed me out of the way until I hit the floor.

" Get out of my way you filthy commoner". She said.\nS puff another bit of his cigar at me.

"I would appreciate if you filthy merchants would leave my customers be".

"Old hag are you going to join us at the merchants guild, or am I going to have to put you out of business?" He asked as he puffed another ring of smoke, but this time it went right past me.

"I am sorry to tell you you young whippersnapper I am not going to be joining your merchants guild even if it is the last thing that I do with my life." She said as she swung her cane at the male merchant and made a big bruise on the top of his head.

"You are going to pay for that you old hag!! I will be back, and next time I will not be so nice!" He exclaimed out of rage as he puffed a ring of smoke at the old lady and stomped out as he was loving the bruises that she had made on his head.

" There is more where that came from. You arrogant, youngster.". She said as she waved her cane at the merchant

I rose back to my feet and dusted off my legs.

"I am so sorry that you had to see that". The old lady said to me as she started to lean back on her cane again.

"Do you deal with people like him very often?".

"Unfortunately, I have to deal with those people frequently because they do not like competition that does not pay contributions to their merchants guild.

There are only a few more shops in town that do not want to join the merchants guild at all.

They always bully in harass us as a result, but in the end , if we can push through , we can charge our own prices and develop a more personal relationship with our customers as opposed to having to charger our customers exactly the prices that they agree with, and also pay taxes and contribution to them on a monthly basis." She said to me as she looked up at me in the eyes and I could see that she was worried.

"Well, if you need anything just give me a call and I will come running to your aid because i've always preferred smaller shops that I ran by an individual as opposed to the larger ones where the guild makes all the rules."

"Let me start then. I will sell you six medical injectors for thirty Cp per injector. The second type of item that I will sell to you is a teir one cloaking field generator, but I will warn you that this item will only be able to be active for about ten minutes before the battery runs out and it has to recharge itself. This item will cost you one hundred and thirty Cp."

"I will take that deal. Thank you very much for the services that you are providing me today." I told her in a very kind voice so that she knew how appreciative I was of her help as well as her willingness to possibly give me a discount on these items.

"It is no problem dearie. Is there anything else that I can help you with before you go?" The old lady asked me as she packed the items that I was going to buy from her and put them in a small backpack for me.

I handed her my card and she took away the required credits from my account with a single swipe of it.

"Yes, I was wondering if there was anyone that you would recommend.I could use to buy my starting armor and weaponry for my first journey through a portal?"

"Yes , I know a very kind gentleman who is a little younger than me , that might be able to help you. He also runs his own shop without paying anything to the guild.

The old lady gave me instructions to look for a rundown building that had an anvil symbol on the door, and that I was to tell the owner that I was sent by Stephenie.

She gave me the card back.

"I am so sorry, where my manners my name is Destiny. You have made a very loyal customer on this day. I will make sure to come and see you the next time I need healing items for my job." I said to Stephenie as I waved my hands at her goodbye.
