Chapter 35 - Chapter 35 | One Vs. All

Night

Satoru was outside the dormitory, sitting on a bench.

He was wearing purple shorts, a blue short-sleeved shirt, and yellow shoes

(I don't consider myself a villain at 100%, but... I'm still lying to everyone. I'm lying to my friends, I'm lying to my girlfriend, and maybe, I'm also lying to myself.)

He got up. (No time to think about it. I must improve Leg Type.)

He took a few steps ahead and kicked the air. (Yeah, like this.)

Satoru jumped and delivered a roundhouse kick to the air.

"I'm making progress," said Satoru. "But I need to be a little slimmer."

__________

The Exam Day

Satoru and his class arrived at the place where the exam for the temporary license would have taken place.

"I'm kind of nervous," said Togaru.

"No need to be," said Satoru. "They'll chase after me, not y'all."

"You're probably right, Hid," said Tetsutetsu. "But promise me you're going to beat the shit out of them."

"I promise," said Satoru.

"Listen, students," said Vlad King. "If you manage to get the provisional license, then you novice eggs will become chicks, and you'll hatch into semi-pros."

Satoru heard an unfamiliar voice. "You're the famous Hideki Shirakawa, right?"

He looked to his right and saw a guy with black hair.

"I'm Shindo, nice to meet you!" he said.

"It's my pleasure, Shindo," said Satoru.

"I've heard U.A.'s had a lot of troubles this year."

"Yeah, it had."

(And I contributed to cause them...)

"Today, I'll do my best to learn from you how to fight as you do!"

"Do you have a dark-based quirk?"

"No."

"Then you can't be me."

__________

Provisional License Exam Location

Satoru was standing beside Tetsutetsu and Kosei.

"There are many of us," said Kosei.

"What did you expect?" Satoru asked, adjusting his hero costume's collar jacket.

"Well then, let's do that provisional license thing..." a man with blonde hair and a sleepy face approached. "I'm Mera from the Heroes Public Safety Commission. Damn, am I sleepy..."

"About the content of the provisional license thing... all the 1540 examinees will have to win through a free-for-all exercise!"

(Oh, it sounds cool...)

"Our society is currently said to be saturated with heroes," said Mera. "And ever since Stain was arrested, many have shown doubts about the current state of heroes. Honestly, as a normal citizen, to tell someone to risk their lives without seeking anything in return is... kinda impossible."

Behind Mera, a screen with a '100' appeared.

"The first hundred to fulfill the requirements will pass," said Mera.

(Only the first hundred? I have to hurry, then...)

"Here are the requirements," Mera muttered. "The examinee will put three of these targets on his or her body. They can go anywhere as long as it's an exposed area. You can't put them on the soles of your feet or your armpits."

"You'll also have six of these balls. The targets are made to only light up if they're hit by these balls, and if all three of your targets light up, you're out."

"You get through this round by defeating two people. That's it for the rules."

(It's kinda similar to the entrance exam, with the only difference here we have to face real people... so logically, this will be harder than the entrance exam. Not that the entrance exam has been difficult for me, though.)

Suddenly, the roof opened, and the battlefield was revealed.

(So we're going to fight here...)

"Guys, I have a plan," said Satoru.

"What plan?" asked Pony.

"You all must do teamwork," Satoru explained. "But I'll be staying away from the group. It stands to reason that everyone will want to eliminate me, so you'll have an easier time if I stay away. Don't worry, I'm strong enough to win alone."

"You sure you want to do this?" Monoma asked.

"Yeah," Satoru grabbed his six balls and started to walk away. "If anyone in this class doesn't get their license, I swear I'll beat the shit out of them."

"Let's do as he said," said Togaru.

"In my opinion, we should split into multiple groups," said Pony.

"He said he'll beat the shit out of whoever doesn't pass this exam..." said Yosetsu.

"We all must pass then," said Sen."

__________

Satoru was alone, hidden behind a rock.

(If I must eliminate two people with six balls, this means I can't miss even a single shot.)

Suddenly, on his left, a ball arrived and tried to hit Satoru. He rolled forward and dodged.

"I'd expect nothing less from you," Shindo appeared beside three guys. "You're all alone, aren't you?"

"I'm alone on purpose," Satoru smiled mockingly. "It's me you want, right? Then come get me."

Balls were thrown at Satoru. He dodged and blocked thanks to his quirk.

"Dark Smash, Leg Type!" he sent a ball back to the sender.

Suddenly, though, something happened.

While running, Satoru moved at supersonic speed. (It happened again!)

(This is... this is a running quirk! One of the five AFO gave me!)

"Don't distract, Shirakawa!" Shindo used his quirk to create an earthquake. Satoru quickly ran away.

(I must find someone else to defeat...)

Satoru left his opponents behind and hid behind a rock. (Shindo made a mess with that earthquake...)

(There are a lot of biomes, if you can call them that, in this place. I must leave this one...)

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a girl appeared and tried to hit Satoru with her ball. The boy dodged.

"This trick only works with the newbies," he said. "I've trained harder than everyone else in my class."

"You sure are strong, Shirakawa," the girl said, slowly rising to her feet. "Greetings, my name is Camie Utsushimi."

"I'm sorry to leave a lady behind, but y'know, I must pass this exam," said Satoru. (She's from Shiketsu...)

"Really?" Camie tilted her head. "But I think you're cool!"

"Because I am cool," said Satoru. (Oh crap, she's cute... no, I have a girlfriend! I must stop falling for every girl I see, goddammit!)

"I gotta go," said Satoru.

"Wait a second, before you leave, gimme at least a point!"

Camie threw her balls at Satoru, but the boy dodged. "Sorry, but you're too slow for me."

(I must find a way to escape this situation... right, the running quirk!)

Satoru sprinted forward and left Camie behind.

"Oh, pity..." muttered Camie. "He's kind of cute..."

(Don't think I didn't recognize you,) thought Satoru. (I know it's you, Himiko-chan.)

__________

Satoru arrived in a more urban biome.

"The 54th person just passed," said Mera on the speaker. "Less than half left, now!"

(So I can't just wait around, huh? Fine, I'll eliminate someone and just leave this place. I'm hungry.)

While walking in search of something, Satoru heard a voice. "Shirakawa, was it? The one who won the sports festival."

The boy turned and saw ten guys dressed like ninjas. "Even if you are from U.A., acting alone will get you in trouble, you know that?"

"That's the exact opposite," said Satoru. "If I'm alone, my classmates will have an easier time. And also, thanks for showing up; you saved me the trouble of looking for someone."

"Prepare to succumb to us, Shirakawa!" one of them threw objects at Satoru and enlarged them. Satoru blocked them with a wall of darkness.

"If that's your level, then you're done for."

Using his still unknown running quirk, he sprinted forward and arrived in front of the one who threw the objects at him.

"One, two, three."

In the blink of an eye, Satoru eliminated him. "Easy."

He did the same thing with all the other ones and passed the first part of the exam.

"Fine," he said. "Now it's time for some relaxation."

(Honestly, it was way too easy. I hope the second part is a bit more complex.)

__________

Rest Room

Satoru entered the room and saw everyone who had passed the exam before him.

"No one from my class is here yet," he said. "I swear, if they don't pass, I'll switch to Class A."

He sat in a chair. (I'm rooting for you all, so hurry up. I'm running out of patience.)
