Kotetsu Isane had expected this reaction from Suō Tsukasa.
In her professional experience, she had never sensed such a peculiar condition. Although her Spiritual Power level was one rank higher than his, the total volume of Reiatsu contained within his Saketsu and Hakusui was impossible to ignore—it far exceeded the standards of a third-seat officer.
Even more startling were the meridians within his body; they were wide and resilient beyond all logic. His physical fitness level outstripped hers by more than just a street's length.
She stared into the frustration burning in Tsukasa's eyes. Suddenly, she realized how much effort he had poured into his training, and she understood the weight it held in his heart. Even if she provided a plan, she wondered how much of her medical advice he would actually follow.
Remembering her younger sister's request, Isane sighed and spoke slowly.
"Wait a moment. I will ask Captain Unohana to come and take a look."
Tsukasa's condition was unique. Her initial assessment and the plan she had proposed were the most conservative forms of treatment.
"Thank you."
Tsukasa pulled his shirt closed, his eyes filled with an undeniable flicker of hope. He understood the logic behind Isane's medical perspective, and his rational mind told him to listen to the doctor, but his heart was filled with intense resistance. Hearing the name Unohana Retsu reignited his expectations.
Unohana Retsu, Captain of the Fourth Division—a Shinigami of a thousand years. Aside from Kirinji Tenjiro of the Zero Division, she was the most profound practitioner of Kaido in the entire Soul Society. Someone of her stature might be able to provide a solution more tailored to his reality than simply pausing his training.
Seeing the light return to his eyes, Isane relaxed her tense shoulders slightly and turned to leave the examination room.
Fourth Division Captain's Office.
The door was slid open.
Wearing her Captain's haori, Unohana Retsu sat inside reviewing medical records.
"Isane, what is it?"
Hearing the soft sound of the door, she looked up elegantly. Seeing Isane standing at the entrance with a hesitant expression, she spoke gently.
Isane stepped forward and bowed respectfully.
"Captain Unohana, there is a patient I would like you to examine personally." She paused, choosing her words carefully. "The situation is quite special, and I am somewhat undecided."
"Don't worry, take your time."
Isane then provided a detailed description of Suō Tsukasa's meridian condition and the damage to his spiritual vents.
"Interesting. Take me to see him."
Upon hearing this, Unohana Retsu smiled slightly, a hint of understanding in her eyes. She said nothing more, standing up and gesturing for Isane to lead the way.
Tsukasa had been waiting on the examination bed for less than the time it takes for half a stick of incense to burn when he heard light footsteps approaching from the corridor.
When he looked up, an intellectual woman with a gentle temperament and a braided ponytail draped over her chest stepped into the room. Isane followed behind her with a respectful expression.
Unohana's gaze swept lightly over Tsukasa, as if she could perceive every secret within his body at a single glance.
"Suō Tsukasa, Third Seat of the Thirteenth Division, greets Captain Unohana."
When Unohana entered the room, Tsukasa had already risen from the bed to offer his greetings.
"There is no need for such formality. Please, sit."
"Isane has already informed me of your situation."
"Let me see."
She walked closer, signaling for Tsukasa to sit back down. She took a seat on the chair beside him, the hem of her haori brushing the surface. She did not require him to undress; she simply pressed her right hand directly onto his chest.
Her Reiatsu permeated his body like a spring breeze turning into rain. Her investigation was far more acute; beyond capturing the exhaustion and damage to the spiritual vents, she also detected a sliver of warmth hidden beneath the damage, constantly attempting to repair it.
"I see."
"Young man, you are walking quite a peculiar path."
Extraordinary physical fitness, pushing bodily potential to the absolute limit, and utilizing recovery abilities for rapid restoration. Breaking through via damage and fostering growth via recovery—she was all too familiar with this almost brutal method of cultivation.
The method of treatment was not actually difficult. A medical plan quickly formed in her mind.
Unohana withdrew her hand and turned to give an order.
"Isane, have Hanataro bring his Zanpakuto here. For this type of damage, he is the most suitable person to handle it."
"Yes!"
Isane immediately understood the Captain's intent and joyfully accepted the command. There were so many people in the Fourth Division, and Yamada Hanataro's presence was so faint, that without the Captain's reminder, she would have forgotten the division possessed such a unique Zanpakuto.
A short while later, Isane returned to the room with Yamada Hanataro, who was cradling his Zanpakuto. His frail frame looked exceptionally small beside Isane as he hurried forward to bow to Unohana.
"Captain Unohana, I have arrived."
"Isane should have explained the specifics to you."
"Hanataro, you will need to use your Zanpakuto next. Aim the tip at Third Seat Suō's Saketsu and Hakusui, and absorb the damage accumulated in his spiritual vents."
Unohana nodded gently, pointing toward Tsukasa. She then turned to Tsukasa to explain: "Do not worry. This is the fastest method of treatment. Trust us."
"Of course."
"Mr. Hanataro, I'll leave it in your hands."
Without any hesitation, Tsukasa nodded in agreement. The moment Unohana mentioned Yamada Hanataro's name, Tsukasa naturally recalled the unique healing ability of his Zanpakuto.
His blade, Hisagomaru, was a healing type. It could transform the damage absorbed through its tip into an offensive discharge—a very unique ability. The treatment method sounded strange, but it addressed the root of the problem.
The examination room fell silent for a moment, waiting for this special treatment to begin.
Yamada Hanataro stepped slowly toward Tsukasa, took a deep breath, and drew his sword. He held the Zanpakuto steadily with both hands, carefully aiming the tip at Tsukasa's chest.
"Here I go."
"Please!"
Tsukasa cooperatively unfastened his shirt to facilitate the treatment.
When the tip of Hisagomaru touched his skin, Tsukasa felt no sting—only a slight coolness followed by a gentle suction emanating from the blade. He could clearly feel the changes in his body; the burden was being slowly drawn out like silk from a cocoon.
Even more obvious was the change in Hanataro's Zanpakuto. A blank gauge appeared on the blade, and a striking red glow began to climb slowly along the groove, recording the healing process.
After treating the Saketsu, he slid the tip downward toward the Hakusui.
A moment later, when the tip left Tsukasa's body, the energy gauge on the blade was completely filled. Tsukasa, having received the treatment, felt a wave of lightness wash over him.
Holding the energy-filled Zanpakuto, Hanataro asked Unohana somewhat nervously, "Uh, Captain, what should I do with this energy?"
After absorbing damage, he needed to release the energy through his Shikai command, and where to release it was a crucial question.
Unohana responded with a composed smile. "Just release it directly. I will handle the rest."
"Yes!"
"Fill, Hisagomaru!"
With the Shikai command, the long blade in Hanataro's hand transformed into a small scalpel. A red light suddenly condensed at the tip, turning into a pulsing orb of energy.
At that moment, a fair wrist reached out gracefully in front of the scalpel. Unohana grasped the air casually; the restless red light flickered gently in her palm before vanishing without a trace, like morning dew.
Hanataro sheathed his Zanpakuto with a sigh of relief, his gaze toward Unohana full of reverence.
Tsukasa took in the entire scene, a sense of realization dawning in his heart.
