Chapter 14 - TUTORIAL IX: LEARNING MAGIC

Elias picked up the medallion and poured Energy into it. He watched as it light up in multitudes of different colors, before Water and Earth burst out of the Medallion, covering one side of its flat surface.

"Let see what's my Affinity is," Opening the Introduction to Magic again, Elias quickly found the answer,

"Water and earth. Those are my two Inborn affinities." not the most exotic power but useful. With Water Magic, he can create water when he needs it, only needing Energy to maintain its creation. As for Earth, it's exceptionally useful in creating shelters and barricades, ensuring safety while resting between traveling.

"Now I know my Affinity, I should continue reading," Elias decided to gamble, to see if he could learn a little Magic in the amount of time he had.

"Once Affinity is known, individuals can start learning Magic. First, imagine a pool of Energy inside your body. That's the source of Energy, one used to unleash Weapon Skill and Magic. After imagining this Energy pool, you need to pull a few strands of Energy outside, before you can transform it into your Affinity based Energy.

The reason one needed to learn their Inborn Affinity first is to be able to visualize how to transform the Magic. For example, those with Fire Affinity will visualize the Energy strands slowly turning into a flame.

Reminder: beginners will not be able to create something from scratch. Instead, they will create an aura that will utilize the effect of one's Affinity. For fire, it will be a red Aura that will burn targeted objects."

This Magic Aura can be used to coat one's body and weapon, enhancing the power of their attack and defeating foes easier.

Once individuals are able to use Magic Aura, they can transit to Magic Transformation, turning the Magic Aura into their respective Affinity, which also refer as Magic Matter, or Magic Power.

To transform Magic Aura, concentration and understanding of Affinity is required …"

Elias continued reading, stopping when he realized almost quarter of the allotted time had passed by.

"Let's see if I can use it," he imagined the Energy Pool, feeling it. It did not take long before he could feel the Energy Pool, moving in an empty space, yet remained contained in one place.

'It's like it is being held in place. Maybe by my own body?" he guessed before pushing the unnecessary thought to the side. He tried to pull a few strands, yet the Energy pulled like super glue, connected to each other and is hard to be separated.

He made several attempts, all failed as he could not pull even a single strand, the Energy pool intent on not letting even a single strand go. Despite the difficulty, Elias did not lose heart as he slowly pulled a few strands from the Energy Pool.

In his 13th attempt, he succeeded, managing to pull 4 strands. He smiled a little, before resuming his focus on the four strands. The first step was already difficult. The second one should be as hard.

He willed three strands to remain around his left wrist, while his right hand 'held' the last strand. Elias planned to start with Water, as while Water and Earth is his Inborn Affinity, Water covered about two thirds of the Medallion surface.

Letting the strand stay on his palm, Elias started visualizing. He planned on using his memory and experience to create Magic Water Aura. His first memory was when his parents took him to the sea, where he learned how to swim.

He remembered the cold water engulfing him in every direction, how he felt being washed from all sides as he moved in the water. As he took a trip on the memory plane, Elias did not forget the purpose he was doing it.

He could feel his right hand slowly being engulfed by something that was similar to water, yet airy at the same time. He opened his eyes, seeing blue Magic Aura clinging to his hand.

A smirk appeared on his face, as Elias walked towards one of the Iron-Wood Puppet, before performing a palm strike. The result was as different as night and day when he compared to when he used Water Aura and regular palm strike.

While his regular palm strike would only shake the Iron-Wood Puppet, the Water Aura Palm Strike sent it flying, while leaving a dent in the shape of his palm, plus a residue that is wet to the touch.

Elias couldn't help but look at his palm.

"The effort and time is definitely worth it." While defeating the newer version of Human Puppet will not be any easier, he believed he could defeat it in least time than it took for him to defeat the ones before it.

Then, he thought of another idea.

-x-

After some experimentation, his idea was proven to be a success. Yet, it will remain a trump card, not used in the 3rd Hidden Boss Fight unless he was about to be defeated. Yes, he will not use it even if it could save time and end the fight quicker.

Elias turned his gaze towards the clock, seeing that he still has half an hour before the next Human Puppet Boss Fight.

"Let's go with Sword Manual II and Energy Slash II. If there is time, I should learn Sword Block," he decided.

Learning Sword Manual II is a no brainer as it improved his overall ability while using a sword. Energy Slash II is also not a surprise as he already mastered Energy Slash I. As for the reason for him learning Sword Block if he had enough time, it's mostly because he lacked a defensive option, and learning the one he possessed if he could would be a wise choice.

He picked up Sword Manual II and read it. Surprisingly, it was easy for him to digest the information inside the book. He managed to read up to one fourth of the book before he needed to take a few minutes after reading a section to comprehend what he read.

"I should stop here for now." his Sword Mastery had reached 35 points, and while he wanted to see if he can get it to 50, the time left would not allow him to accomplish such a lofty goal.

"At least it will help me learn Energy Slash II and Sword Block."
