Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Dong, dong, dong…

Just as Mo Yichen was struggling to decide which profession to choose, someone knocked on the door.

He quickly got up and opened it, only to find two burly men in courier uniforms standing outside.

"Is this Mr. Mo Yichen?" one of them asked. "We're delivering on behalf of Xing Hang Company. Please sign here."

"Okay, thank you for your hard work," Mo Yichen replied, taking out his ID card and receipt before quickly signing.

After collecting the waybill, the two men left briefly and soon returned, carrying in a single-sized bed-like structure and a tightly packed large box.

Mo Yichen quickly directed them to move the equipment beside the bed in his bedroom and watched as they unpacked and connected everything.

Once the power was connected, the pure-white health pod emitted a soft beep.

"It's done, sir," one of the couriers said. "The equipment has been debugged. If there's no problem, we'll take our leave."

"Thank you both." Mo Yichen handed each of them a cigarette and saw them off.

Xing Hang's service attitude really is good, he thought. No wonder it's a subsidiary of the company that developed Fengxu.

Returning to the bedroom, Mo Yichen immediately began studying the massive device that had cost him 12,000 yuan. His bedroom was small to begin with, and now it felt completely packed, with barely any space left.

He opened the pod and lay down to try it out. To his surprise, it was extremely comfortable. Above his head was a small LCD screen, with a row of control buttons beneath it and a card slot on the side.

He climbed out again and began reading the instruction manual from the empty box.

"Fengxu" required real-name registration. Each person could only operate one account. The card slot was used to read an ID card, while another slot allowed for bank cards to transfer game funds.

The virtual currency in "Fengxu" could be freely exchanged with real money. The official conversion rate was 10 gold coins to 1 RMB. Each country's rate was adjusted according to exchange rates—but since the game was developed by a Chinese company, the RMB was the base standard.

"Real money can be exchanged instantly for virtual currency!"

Mo Yichen's eyes lit up. He suddenly sensed a business opportunity.

He immediately went online to check more official information about "Fengxu." After browsing several announcements, he finally found what he was looking for:

> "Xing Hang Company officially promises not to sell in-game items, abolishing the game mall entirely. All equipment and pet skill books must be obtained by players within the game."

"The company's revenue will come from equipment sales, player-to-player transactions, and NPC services such as medicine sales and equipment repairs."

"Once the game officially launches, all operations will be managed by the game's core AI, 'Shen Ce,' eliminating human interference."

A complete second society…

In addition, when players used a health pod, its massage function would automatically activate during gameplay. Micro-currents stimulated joints and nerves, producing effects equivalent to regular physical exercise.

"Shen Ce," the game's core AI, was the pinnacle of China's technological achievements. Its processing power could support three billion players online simultaneously—and it was still being continuously upgraded.

Mo Yichen felt his blood boil.

He had studied hard since childhood and worked diligently after graduating. His conditions were no worse than anyone else's—yet he was still unemployed. No matter how much he struggled, life never seemed fair.

Now, the appearance of "Fengxu" felt like a second chance at life.

He couldn't afford to miss it.

Moreover, this was humanity's first attempt to completely abandon keyboards and mice. No matter how powerful former professional players were, this was a brand-new battlefield. Everyone stood on the same starting line.

Who's stronger now?

Having made up his mind, Mo Yichen began thinking seriously about how to establish his own advantages after entering the game.

After pondering for a long time, he suddenly remembered—

Didn't that beautiful woman promise me some extra compensation?

He immediately took out his phone and dialed her number.

"Hello?"

Gu Yanshi's sweet voice came through the receiver, instantly making Mo Yichen feel dizzy.

"Hello, miss. I'm Mo Yichen—the one who bought your company's health pod earlier. Do you remember me?"

On the other end, Gu Yanshi nearly threw her phone away.

This guy actually called…

Though annoyed, her good upbringing allowed her to remain polite.

"Hello. What can I help you with?"

"Well, I've already received the health pod," Mo Yichen said cheerfully. "But I didn't see the compensation package you promised me."

"I'll check on that immediately and get back to you shortly," Gu Yanshi replied, eager to end the call.

Beep.

The call was disconnected.

Looks like the beauty is about to lose it, Mo Yichen thought, smiling bitterly.

Putting his phone away, he returned to the computer. With only three days left before the public beta, he decided to thoroughly study the game's mechanics and background.

After all—

He never fought an unprepared battle.
