Chapter 4 - New People

"What rotten luck!"I grumbled to myself.

The people before looked menacing even though we were the same age.

Before I could realise it,I found myself being dragged away by the hand.

I tried to resist but the result was obvious. She was part of the spearman group which were able to pierce a boar the size of three men in diameter with little to no effort, even going as far as to completely go through it.

The rest of the group were looking at us like we were a pair of mother and child.

Another blue haired guy asked in honesty,"Boss, who is that?"

He was immediately shrugged I off,"I don't know. But did you forget,we don't ask about a person. You know what we've been through so we don't want to open closing wounds."

By the time we arrived, she threw me forward and hurriedly introduced me,"He's a new one.I found him dead asleep close by. It's hard to believe that he slept through all our fighting despite it being so close but its obviously his first time out so let's bring him back to our place."

I looked at her, expressionless,as I heard her finishing up.I understood.

'She's trying to tell me not to try sneek up on them again while out here, and also to make it easy on me incase it's awkward for me to talk to people.'

They didn't mind much. In the next moment, they continued tying up the meat yo bring it back.

I looked back behind me. There I saw her showing off a faint warm smile.

"This people are weird,"is the final conclusion I gave to them.

Just then, the leader told me to stand. Still bent down,he looked at me in a keen and steady gaze not breaking contact for even a second.

"You are a mild one, right? Well,it doesn't matter either way. Let's get going everyone. We will talk about it when we get back,"he said without giving any of us a moment to respond.

It wasn't weird every now and then for someone to randomly follow them so they didn't want to pry into why. That's why they'll simply take the person back.

Everyone then followed his lead and headed to their home. During the journey, I noticed it was starting to get dark. The stars weren't out yet but I kept my gaze upward. It's a new world and I don't know anything about it except for my own shitty powers. Even though,I wanted to take my time with it all and experience everything wholly.

"I'm not living much of a life but I don't what to rush any of it. I want to see what this new world will hold for me."

"Will being hero finally work out here. Will saving people actually become worth it?. Everyone I met kept telling me that helping people was the greatest thing you could do for a person but that didn't sit with me. What point is there in saving someone when it won't even last for long. You can save them today and they'll die tomorrow. Will someone feel better if that happens? If they do then that person is stupid. They'll just comfort themselves by saying that they did their best and nothing could be done about it. Doesn't that seem a little hypocritical? You save because you are afraid of that happening to you. You save because you want to preserve life for what amounts to a meaningless period of time.

"Everyone's life is insignificant. Out of all the people in the world,in the multiverse, who will notice one person's death. "

Thinking like that,it took out all of the feeling of trying to help.

As we walked, night came and I found myself in a certain familiar spot; it was the same run down huts I had encountered before. The people there,at first glance, were dull. They didn't move too sluggish or too fast. They didn't interact with each other and just went around from one specific point to another.

Even as I got closer to the village,I wasn't welcomed openly but was simply ignored;like I never existed in the first place. Sure I didn't want too much attention from strangers but to be ignored from the very start? People were naturally made to be interactive so it was rather weird to me that they didn't even do that to themselves in the first place. Sure me but even themselves?

....

The only time of day when they ever showed emotion was at night during the story tales. For some reason when they were hearing it,their heart and eye were filled with excitement. For the rest of the day, they were seemingly 'empty'. Out of Everyone, the girl who dragged me here was what you could at least call lively. Sure she didn't act with much enthusiasm but nevertheless, she used to be seen wearing a content expression on her face: showing only satisfaction.

She was a kind character. Out of about a hundred of her kind, while as the leader was a source of reliance, she was like a source of warmth and happiness.

When she kicked Saroto,it was to remind him that it was dangerous to sleep in a place like that. She introduced him without making it hard for me and also took as a way to scold him in front of everyone. Saroto understood a bit of it too and he also didn't make it difficult for her too.

In the days to come, the simple routine continued;during the day was simply finding food and some cleaning while during the night, they would speak of their stories of the past. One example is maybe of the demonic emperor who got banished out of his world or of the regressor who was on a quest to discover himself and know what he was really set out to do in the world.

"At least they like telling stories. I thought that I'd have no way of knowing them at all."

To be honest, there were times when I used to feel glad having to meet them. Even in my previous world, there weren't many who used to truly appreciate stories like the ones in front of me do. The ones who appreciate a good story are the ones who I connect with the most.
