My parents died in a car accident making me an orphan at a young age. I was later adopted by a wealthy family in the country.
I thought I had a second chance at family but all of that crumbled when their long lost daughter returned.
The family that once treated me like their and doted on me day and night gave me the cold shoulder.
As if life couldn't get worse, Blair, the real daughter kept getting me into trouble making the family hate me even more.
Like last time she broke an expensive vase and cut her own arm with a broken shard. Mr and Mrs Wiston along with Eiden, their eldest son rushed into the room.
She started crying and told them I pushed her into the vase cause I was angry she was now the center of attention.
They coax her and gave me a scolding. Eiden who was like my own brother even took her side.
" I am really disappointed in you, Pearl" Eiden said while coaxing Blair.
I held back my tears as they left the room. Blair gave me one last victorious smirk before leaving with them.
I broke down in sobs as the door closed behind them. From that day onwards I knew I could never have the love of a family ever again.
Four years had passed since Blair came back. Every single day since that day had been torture for me. Today was my birthday and that of Blair.
I got up earlier than usual and packed my things. I decided to move in with my boyfriend, Derrick after Blair's birthday celebration.
I got dressed and headed out to a local store for my morning shift. I opened the store and started cleaning. My Boss arrived around 8.
"Early as usual " he said cheekily. I gave him a smile and he did same.
The day went on as usual and in the afternoon, Derrick came over. A smile creep on my lips when I saw him. I run over to him.
"Derrick, what are you doing here?" I asked. He smiled and handed me a gift bag. " what's this?" I asked curious.
" open it and you would find out" he said.
I looked inside and saw a beautiful diamond necklace. I was shocked and so happy as tears filled my eyes.
" Happy Birthday Pearl " he said.
I couldn't hold back the tears anymore. " thank you " I said and gave him a hug.
" Now let's go have fun" he said. " Maybe when I leave work " I said but was cut off by my boss. "You can go " he said. " Thank You" I said and left with Derrick.
We had a blast, we had ice cream and went to park.
We headed back to the store around 6. We went inside to find the store quiet and dark. Derrick turned on the light.
"Happy Birthday " they shouted. I was so happy. " You did all this for me. I don't know what to say guys" I was speechless.
"Just blow the candle already "Renda said. I had a blast with everyone. "Today is officially the best birthday ever" I said. I thanked everyone.
" since you are feeling thankful. Why not reward me for my hard work. " he said. I looked at him and gave him a sweet kiss.
His phone rang ruining the romantic atmosphere.
" sorry about that " he said. "No problem I just got a text from my sis that she needs something so I have to leave" he said. "Oh ok"
He left first and we continued with the party.
After a while, I got a call. I checked the caller to find Eiden's name flash on the screen. I frowned and answered the call. His scolding voice was the first thing I heard.
" where are you Pearl? Don't you know it's Blair's birthday?" he said. I scoffed. " so? " I said sarcastically.
" are you trying to get attention but making everyone worried" he said.
"Worried? Hypocrites", I thought. " For your information, I am celebrating my own birthday with people that actually care." I said.
He went silent for a while. I ended the call without a second thought.
I came back later that night. The party was almost over. I went through the back door trying to avoid the crowd.
On the way, I passed by one of the guest rooms only to hear intimate sounds from there. It was none of my business until I heard a familiar voice.
I peeked inside to find Blair and Derrick in the act. "Didn't anyone ever teach you to knock, Pearl" Blair said.
" Derrick what are you doing here and what's going on?" I asked shocked by the scene before me.
Derrick avoided my gaze as guilt filled him. My heart shattered.
"How could you, Derrick?" I asked with my eyes filled with tears.Blair laughed.
"You thought he was in love with you. All this was planned from the beginning he was never yours to begin with. That day in the park where you first met was all planned by me.", she said and walked up to me.
She then said ,"this is my gift to you my dear sister for the five years you took my place and it's also a reminder that you would always be my substitute".
My heart couldn't handle it, those sweet moments, the promises were all lies. I looked at Derrick but he refused to look at me.
He then bluntly called me disgusting and an orphan. His words shattered my world. The man I loved wholeheartedly didn't love me and even found me disgusting.
The emotional pain was too much that it triggered a sudden heart attack which instantly killed me.
"If there is another life, I will make all of you pay. "I said my last words as I felt my soul slowly drift out of my body.
